May 31, 2010
I got a text from my service provider this morning, informing me that I had nearly used my allowence on the internet 'subject to their fair use policy' - how do I exit the internet, and how do I make sure I am not connected all the time?

Decided on getting a desire on 3 from CPW after advice on here yesterday. Not actually ordered yet; its bank holiday weekend so it not be here till at least Wednesday anyway. Just wondered about 3s fair usage policy on data. On the contract info on CPW it just says unlimited internet *subject to fair usage policy. Doesn't say how much that is though. Is it 500mb or 1gb?

Running a non-rooted 2.2 Desire
So once your phone is mounted as a USB drive(mass storage), how do you exit ?
1. Do you reallly need to ?
2. If you do, how are you doing it ? While i would like to use the extended controls widget, when i do try to turn the USB button off, it says "Mass storage deactivated", and promptly after that " Enabling Mass storage".

I don't want to say first come first serve, because of time zone differences and the times that people can be on the computer. I would like to get some ideas on how I can give them away in a fair manner.

Right basically you can find the UK T mobile internet settings on the T mobile website. On the Speed Test app, the highest speeds I get are 1.8m/bs downloads and around 500kpbs upload. However, those were at off peak times at night etc (probably when nobody is using the net).Generally I get anything from 0.3 m/bs to 0.9 m/bs though. Lately I've been experiencing some inconsistent internet speeds and reconnection attempts so for I've gone back to the default settings. Tbh though I'm not sure if it makes much difference.

I need a little friendly help on the subject of phone and carrier selection. My options are; Subbed Nexus One with T-Mobile plan Unsubbed Nexus One with cheaper T-Mobile plan roid/Eris with about Verizon plan (I get a discount) and wait for the Nexus One on VZW. Eventually I would like to get the Nexus One, but Verizon's plan will actually be cheaper than T-Mobile because I get a discount with them. That is unless I get the N1 unsubbed, but I think is a lot for a phone. I would be super paranoid about it messing up or me breaking it. VZW has better coverage overall, but they both have about the same where I actually live. I have about two weeks before I have to do something, my old contract ends soon.

I have a Motorola Droid running Android version 2.2. Every so often I will receive email on my Droid from a POP3 account where the subject line does not match the body of the e-mail. For example I will receive on my Droid an e-mail from Amazon confirming order shipment but the body of the e-mail will be an advertisement from Hertz, HP, etc. The Amazon e-mail body is not shown. If I look in Gmail online it is fine so this so this is only on the Droid.

I work in IT and would like to setup custom notifications based the Subject line for an email or SMS message. For example, I may want the phone on vibrate but have any email/SMS with the string "CRITICAL" (case sensitive) in the subject use a loud alert sound and repeat every 2 min until I acknowledge or read the email. The closest thing I could find was having handcent do a custom notification on the SMS sender's number, but it lacks the repeat options. Anyone know of an app that can do this?

Just got my Nexus One (on At&t) last week and I LOVE it. I noticed that when you receive a new gtalk or new text message that it shows a quick preview of that messages in the notification bar at the top of the screen. However, when you receive an new gmail it just says "New Email". Is there a way to get the subject line of the email to be displayed in the Notification bar?

My current contract expires with Cincinnati Bell tomorrow. I want to get the Incredible but I don't want to keep my current carrier for another month. I was thinking that I could just pickup the Motorola Droid from Best But for 19.99 and return it later when the Incredible was in stock. Do they have the 30 return like the Verizon store? Also Walmart has them for the same price so does anyone know their return policy?

Are we allowed to return 30 days from the day we ordered the phone, or 30 days from when we received the phone? (april 19th and april 28th for me). If the droid 2 is coming out with similar specs and a keyboard i think i want that.

I know Verizon has a 30 day money back (minus restocking fee) return policy. Does this apply if you get your phone from BB? Do they have their own return policy? If so, is it still 30 days?

Can an Android application be programmed to set up a security policy on android OS? Security policy example that i want: app1 needs to be running to be able to run app2 or app3.
And then let app1 detect if app2 or app3 is being started. If yes then: pop up on screen and ask for authentication.(the policy should only be editable with the pin code of the user.)

I'm new to my HTC Desire and Android in general, so please bear with me. At home, I have no Wi-Fi but my PC is connected to the web via ADSL. Is there a way to allow my HTC Desire to connect to the internet via USB using the connection my PC has to the internet (i.e. using it as a gateway)? I know that you can use the phone to allow the PC to connect to the web - but is the opposite possible as well?

I got my HTC desire to help me while traveling extensively overseas. I need the gps to get places and translators as well as the internet for booking stuff. On getting to Europe I can't find a prepaid sim that includes data. As my partner says all I have now is an expensive majong set. I can phone and text but what is the point of having translators if you can't use it overseas.

I have an app that allows me to turn off/on my bluetooth and wifi with one click but can't seem to find one that turns off the GPRS data connection.
I've gone into turn off the Background data but i still get the arrow pointing away from the phone at the top under the "H" symbol showing that data is still being transmitted intermittently. I have set my facebook, email and weather etc to update manually.
the only way that i can stop the arrows under the H from flashing (i presume thats the gprs transfering data) is to have my wifi on then the "H" goes away. But I am trying to conserve battery so i would like to have wifi, bt and gprs off until i need it.
