My phone is playing up, particularly signal and reception wise. So I want to 'format' the phone back to its factory settings and start again. However, I have a few questions. Firstly, I have noted what apps I have downloaded. Apart from the ones on the SD card, will I have to pay for the paid apps again in the Market? Will my phone revert back to 2.1?What's the best way to reboot the phone?

I had Fresh 0.2 on my Evo, and now I'm trying to flash Fresh 0.5.3 I get through all the steps (ClockworkMod recovery, wipe data, wipe cache, install zip, reboot), but then the phone keeps loading the white HTC EVO 4G screen for a few seconds, then rebooting. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am fairly new to the whole rooting thing but I managed to get my Evo rooted with unrevoked and then loaded Fresh 3.3 on it a week or so later. I did a couple of back ups using titanium back up, one of the stock ROM and one with the fresh ROM. I kept these on the SD card but I think I should move them to my computer b/c they are large files. What should I have done once I installed Fresh 3.3? Is there something on the root of the SD card I should have deleted? I don't have the space to update to the fresh 3.4 right now and would like to get it updated ASAP.

Now after reading again froyo saves the app on the sd card but saves the extra user data etc I think on internal memory so what's the point in that? Now I'm just thinking of going all the way once and for all. At the moment I am running the standard 4gb card on my unbranded o2 with the devillian rom, but I found this rom freezes sometimes abit, like windows, you click on something it freezes then a couple seconds later comes back to life plus the flash player and browser seems to be worse than stock. So I'm moving away from this one. Open for recommendations, but I'm leaning towards the one lekky is using (defrost?) as I think that is known to be well.Instead of doing it myself and going awol searching on the interwebs, jumping on the ever stressful rooting/rom merry go round and crawling into a fetal position rocking back and forth when things don't go to plan I thought I should post on here first and listen to your recommendations.

However, when the phone comes up everything is [OK] but in the bottom Initialize Fresh Rom [Wait] flashing.It keep on rebooting and comes to same point for past 30 minutes.Did I messed the rooting part or ROM installed?Is there anything can be done here? or do I wait?

When I press it it shows me what apps are running. I clear them all but within minutes of me not touching ny phone they all are running again 8 in total I believe. Amongst the apps are Flickr, peep, footprints....
View 7 Replies View RelatedI decided tonight that i was going to try and start using my google account on my desktop synced with my phone.
So...i had all of my contacts saved too the phone rather than too my google account (choosed the option to save to phone when adding a new contact initially because i was unsure how google worked)
I couldnt for the life of me see how to switch this contact over to my google account from the phone so i had to save all contacts too sim individually then had to "import from sim card" and created the new contacts under my google account. This left me with the contacts on my phone saved too google contacts and when going on a contact now in the top right hand corner it says linked and there is 2 circles with a green link between them.
Previously it just said phone and had no green link These contacts however are not showing up in google when i sign in on my desktop. Also, on my phone, when i go to menu > view (when in the people application) if i uncheck all boxes and check google (51) no contacts show up.
However if i check also the sub heading saying "Show auto Gmail contacts" then they show up :S Ive just added a new contact and clicked the option save contact too google when i initially created it. This contact does not say linked but just says google at the top and is also the only contact showing up when i just check the google box and not the sub box. Im also using jorte calender which i thought was compatible but nothing from that seems to have gone onto my desktop calendar when signed in to google?
I have an HTC Desire rooted with Open Desire. Today I just woke up, opened my device and I always got an Android system error message, and nothing would load. I tried rebooting, I took out the battery, I put a different SD card, I restored an older backup and I wiped all the data! Now it's always stuck at the green hTc screen.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had one of those "Starting download" errors in the market for almost 3 months now (!) and I'm starting to get tired of it.
I'm using a Desire with android 2.2. My problem is this: I can download from satellite network, but not via Wifi at home. However, it seems to be a 1% chance (or close to that) of successful download using the Wifi.
I have logged in and out of Talk several times, did a couple of factory resets, formatted the SD card, cleared cache from HTC checkin service, market, google talk and downloader (if thats what its called in english). I tried to set the network as only WCDMA, only GSM and both auto, still no results. Everything else seems to work using the Wifi at home, except market. I called HTC for some help, and the only thing I got to know was that it wasn't my mobile operator, or other settings on my phone that caused this problem, and they also thougt it might be the network at home, which I too thought before talking to them. So I did a little research about that, and tried to open port 5228, even though that seemed weird, as it sometimes worked downloading. I also read about the change from googlemail.com to gmail.com, but I never had a "googlemail.com" address, so I hope this isnt the problem. Now HTC wants me to tell them if I can fix this, and how I did, so they probably have no clue either:S
I have also tried other things, which I don't remember right now, but if anyone can list up something to try, I'll see if I have done it or not.
Tried a search but couldn't find anything similar to what's been happening to my phone since I updated to FroYo on Sunday.Update went through fine on Sunday afternoon. On Monday morning at about 5am I heard my phone go off, picked it up in a sleepy haze and noticed the white "Quietly Brilliant" HTC screen, as if it has rebooted itself. Keyed in my security code and thought nothing of it, went back to sleep. Phone good as gold all day - no further issues on Monday.This morning, at around 4am, it did the same - re-started in the night, woke me up with a chime and the bright white screen. Keyed in the code, went back to sleep. Did the same at about 5am. The battery is currently about half full, so I don't think it's an issue there.I bought the phone about 2 weeks ago and didn't have any issues til I updated. The only setting I changed witin the phone was to have a security code set up for when it comes off standby. I've installed a couple of games since then too.Can anyone help? I'm going to turn my security code off and see what happens tonight, but has anyone else had this problem since the update?
I did notice a small icon in the top bar, sort of looked like an eye, but to be honest I was too sleepy to press it to find out what it was and it's now gone. No apps running on the phone, just WiFi, Bluetooth etc. Auto-update is set to on, which makes me think it's updating something? But why the re-boot?I don't mind it re-starting if it's meant to, it's just the fact it wakes me up at silly o'clock.
Right, my problem is that the orange home screen is starting itself up. I'm not selecting it and its not my default one so it shouldn't be being used. Looking at Task manager it looks like it's self launching. How can I prevent this? I wouldn't really bother if it was just this but it launches 9 other apps along with it which are using up my data allowance and battery. It's really annoying and only just started happening out of the blue with out any new apps being installed or changed. Task manager is shutting it down when the screen turns off but it just relaunches itself every time and I'm sick of my battery being eaten.
View 1 Replies View RelatedGot a problem since 2.2 thats bugging me and draining battery life, in 2.1 I'd used Advanced Task Killer to kill all Apps I did'nt want which was fine, more often than not it was just Apps i'd manually started that popped up for killing. Now I find in 2.2 that theres Apps that start running without me even opening them and sometimes its 7-8 Apps at once which cant be good for battery life (and I've noticed a drop in that). Anyone else finding this? Anyway to stop apps Automatically starting once I connect to the Internet for example? as alot of them pop up after I do that, but other times the phones on idle and I select ATK and theres some appeared on it, last thing I want to do is check ATK every 10mines just to save battery.

My phone soft reboots every few seconds, gets as far as "HTC, Quietly Brilliant" and then reboots, anyone had this before and know of a solution? I've googled around but most people with a reboot issue it is random, mine is constant and has been rebooting constantly for over an hour, only way to stop it is yank out the battery but still can't boot afterwards.

When i Turn on my Desire i will be prompted to enter the pin. When i dont enter anything the system loads and i just can make emergency calls.
So the question is how to enter my PIN afterwards ?
Downloaded the android SDK on windows as well as fresh install of JDK. Java is installed fine, I can go to command prompt and enter "java" and it loads fine.

Only directly after such a reboot one can set the phone discoverable without fear of another crash. Terrific!
Is there any place where could one report that bug, where Google and/or HTC would be listening?
A few weeks ago I registered for that network thing, back then I was using the HTC Hero. At first it would work, then if I turned my phone work, it would say "Sim can not be registered to this Network" and when I searched for other Networks, only Orange would appear.
When I got the Desire, I can never seem to get this to work still. Orange has terrible signal in my area although there site says its amazing. I never have network in my own home. and Im not sure I have ever saw full bars on my Desire.
So my question is, does yours work 24/7 if you have it. Does anyone else get the sim not registered thing after a reboot and how can I actually set it up properly cause I may be doing it wrong. p.s I have roaming n etc on
I usually charge my phone overnight, so plug it in and let it charge until i get up on a morning.However I'm noticing when I unplug it, the battery drops almost instantly to between 96 and 91%. I'm thinking this is a case of overcharging? Its just happened to me now, so I've turned the phone off, let it charge and as soon as the orange light turns green I'll unplug it and turn it on and see what happens.Anyone else any experience of this? I want to charge overnight, but if its going to give me a worse battery life by doing so.

I proceeded to try and turn the phone off but it gave me lots of options with a white screen, i couldn't get it to do anything so i took the battery out and then it started normally.
After charging fully my green notify light comes on and my battery says 100. But after 1 min of unplugging the usb cable it drops to 97. I have wifi on and brightness set at middle level.

View 6 Replies View RelatedJust wondering if anyone else is experiencing a problem with the full screen weather widget where when you scroll to it it says "Loading Data" then goes completely blank and then cant do anything with it. Removing the widget and re-adding makes it work again a reboot also brings it back to life for a couple of seconds but then goes blank. Clicking on the weather picture on the clock still brings up the details weather screen.

As we all know the internal memory is pretty small on the Desire, and i've tried to be conservative with the apps I install (unless I know they can be moved to SD). However, despite this i'm constantly low in internal memory. at the moment, the only apps i have installed on the internal memory are beautiful widgets (1.36mb), colornote (524kb), facebook (3.05mb), mixzing (3.70mb), multicon (316kb), swiftkey (1.84mb), (tasker (1.43mb), voice search (2.54mb) .everything else I have moved to the SD card via app2sd or through the recently posted trick to get all apps to automatically install to SD. As you can see, the apps I have installed (obviously this excludes all the various htc stuff that comes preinstalled etc) falls far short of the supposed 148mb that i have available to install apps, so can anyone shed any light on what might be going on? I've tried clearing various caches to try and free up some spece but this has barely had any impact and this is truly starting to bug me. I've got a desire on 2.2

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been running with about 15-20mb of memory left for the last couple of months perfectly happily, haven't installed any new apps etc. This morning when I woke up the phone was suddenly reading completely full with something like 44kb of internal memory left. I went through and deleted a bunch of apps, emptied various caches and got the memory back down to 130mb of the 147mb. Now, I've had my phone on charge all afternoon, maybe 3 texts and 5 emails have come in and all of a suddenly the memory is totally full again! Most apps now force close because there's not enough memory to run them but something is obviously just filling up the memory somehow. Anybody else have this problem, or any ideas how to solve it?
