My internet conection is painfully slow. when I have the mobile network switched on a get a G with two arrows showing GPRS?
Is this correct, should I not see a 3G with two arrows? I am with O2UK.

My internet connection seems to be running pretty slow atm. It keep jumping from 3G+ which is really fast then back to G which is pretty slow, Why is this? Is there a way to make it 3G+ all the time and be stable or is it common for it to flip through them its changing like every few seconds.

Also when i try to watch a vid on the bbc i player app im getting a msg saying that im connected via edge or gprs and i need to view via wifi or 3g. Im in a 3g area as the people beside me in work can get a good 3g signal via O2 also.

View 3 Replies View RelatedDon't know how to start , so here goes. I got my Desire a few days ago and have been slowly playing around with it. Any way whilst messing about on the internet I have noticed that I don't have a "G" "3G" indicator for my connection . I only have a "H".
Which is best...is one better than the other? I had a Nokia E71 and was more or less always connected via "3G".
I haven't changed networks, still with 3.
I've had the Desire a few weeks now and I love it. My problem is that when I surf the mobile internet. I am only getting a GPRS signal? i.e., I am only getting the 'G' symbol and the arrows in the notification bar when I am surfing. I've been various parts of the country surfing the internet but never ever seem to be able to get anything other than GPRS? - I keep reading about 3G,EDGE and HSPDA but it just doesn't seem like my Desire will connect to these, just the bog standard GPRS? Any settings I need to change?
Cos I am thinking that my web pages could be loading a lot quicker. Its just annoying because you read that 3G covers most of the UK, yet everywhere I've been going doesn't seem to show anything other than the single 'G' on the notification bar. (One interesting thing to note is that I downloaded the 3G watchdog app and that app shows you a little 3G notification in the upper bar - strangely enough this shows I have a half decent 3G signal, yet whenever I am surfing I am only getting GPRS).
I'm using opendesire 3.02 on o2 and I am having trouble connecting to the internet. I've tried many different APN settings, reflashed the rom (+ Radio) with full wipes and even over a few versions of opendesire still had no mobile internet. After typing *#*#4636#*#* it says GPRS Service: disconnected. Anyone no what type of preferred network I should use?

does the Internet connection is the reason? or because i input several input stream to display each image?
For no reason it losses signal and refuses to connect to internet! I then close it down which takes 15mins and sometimes it still don't work! Why is this happening? Should i go back to T-Mobile?
View 17 Replies View RelatedI checked the other "no internet connection threads" but I don't quite see the same problem as I think I'm having. I have a non-rooted Desire (Swiss Sunrise) and I updated to 2.2. I'm going on a week's holiday soon and I wanted to see if my Irish sim would work in my phone because the data roaming rates with Sunrise are extortionate (13.90 Swiss francs per megabyte!). Lo and behold, I put the card in and it works no problem! I rang my wife's phone just to check.
There was an alert that came up, asking me to select my home network and I chose o2.ie and I think this may be where things went wrong. Now I can't connect to the mobile internet network even though I have selected Sunrise in settings->wireless/network->mobile network->access point names. Can someone tell me how I can reset my home network to Sunrise?
I have created an adhoc wifi connection with internet sharing enabled on windows 7 and am struggling to get my Desire to see it. Another laptop can see it as well as my ipod touch.
I have tried both WEP and WPA-2 security types (only two available) and I cannot see the wifi.
Is there anything I have to do on the phone?
Forgot to add - I am able to connect to my home wifi (bt homehub) but I am no longer at home.
I'm on Orange with unlmited internet. Web pages just takes ages to load and sometimes shows connection error even with 3G or H signals available. What could be the problem?

View 2 Replies View RelatedTook my HTC Desire to Italy and since then have lost all mobile data connections - though works fine on WiFi. Switched on airplane mode for flights, and switched off data roaming to reduce overseas costs. But when switched back on to use internet couldn't get any network connection. Now back in the UK still same issue - no internet, and cannot send MMS picture messages - even when in strong 3G signal Tried all the options I can find but no joy at all.
View 4 Replies View RelatedUnbranded, fully updated (2.1-update1), Desire. Three months old. No task killers installed. Just this past couple of days I've noticed it has not been showing the data connection symbol in the top bar, next to the signal strength bars. Try and connect to the internet or the market and get a 'failed' pop up window asking to either retry of cancel. Retry never works.
I go into settings > Wireless & Networks and disable Mobile Network, then enable it again and it flickers on then goes off again. Repeat this and it stays on for a while but always goes off again after about 20 minutes even though the Mobile Network is ticked green. Why is this happening? I'm missing emails because of this and it's a bit of a pain.
Currently using launcherpro as default but having a little problem with my data connection. Do you guys leave mobile internet on then use a data connection toggle like on switch pro to enable disable as and when you like? Or do you use a toggle like curvefish apn to rename and automatically connect to the network? Or do you turn it on and off via settings or the power button as and when you need it? Bit lost on the subject to be honest. Also when I go and turn mobile internet on in the settings under it it says something like connect to mobile internet when WiFi is unavailable. Is this the default setting or can it be changed to only connect when I want it to?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI would like advice from those with 2.2 on Orange. I've had my Desire for 2 months now and love it-apart from one thing-the damned Internet connection. Quite often, with a strong 3G+ (HSDPA) signal, my internet connection fails to load data. Then, a few minutes later, in the same location, it works perfectly. I know for a fact that this is not a network only problem. The reason I know this is because I previously used the exact same SIM in my iphone for 6 months in the very same locations and it always worked perfectly.
Therefore, my strong suspicion is that the problem is a result of the combination of the Orange branding on a Desire and the network itself. I'm sure I read of a couple of posters here who had the very same problems and when they moved to 2.2 the problem disappeared. Can anyone confirm? I've been waiting patiently for the Orange update to 2.2 but am getting fed up and I'm concerned that the Orange bloatware may still cause an issue after this. Hence, I'm considering a debrand and update myself.
Is there an application that I am able to see which application is utilising the GPRS connection, because it seems that there's an app doing it whilst it is closed or I haven't turnt off the auto update, any app that can tell me what app is using it?

The service providers in my country are charging for the MBs I downloaded in my GPRS/EDGE connection. So, whenever I want to disable the GPRS, I just change my default APN to something wrong and then correct it when I want to enable it again. I couldn't find another way to enable/disable. I think,Android team assumed that only 3G users with a good data plan only would use this phone. Anyway, I just want to develop an application which can do that automatically for me. However; I couldn't find how to change the APN settings in the docs. but I couldn't find how to use it. Could you please help me? Any alternative ways and/or suggestions are welcome.
