Anyone know where the option to move apps is on 2.2? Apparently it is possible with google sky maps? As a side note, sky maps is really cool, thought it would be better though. Imagined being able to zoom in more and click on stars for information about them like on google sky on the PC.

I am running 2.2 now, and have App 2 SD that lets me move elligable apps to my sd card. I understood that the lastest version of google maps supported being installed to sd card? however my maps app seems to be up to date but is still in the phone memory, I cant move it using the App 2 SD app or by going to settings/applications/manage applications/maps, do I have to stop the app somehow to allow moving it, or can I uninstall it and reinstall the latest version to my sd card from the marketplace?

I have been between the Desire, Galaxy S and the Desire HD for the last month but have been really turned off by the small battery on the DHD and have just found I can get almost all the feature on the Desire with 2.2. One answer I couldnt find is does the froyo update for 2.2 have auto caching of the maps? I use my map a lot as I travel all over the city and this really intrigued me about the DHD. If not not a big deal but would make me order the phone right now

Rooting or forcing apps to SD card is looking more and more likely. Especially when T-Mobile are yet to release the correct 2.2 update.

I'm due to receive my Desire on Friday, and franky I cant wait. I love my iPhone, and its given me a great year, but I got fed up of the lack of user control. I jailbroke it, but thats a pain as you're frequently chasing updates etc. So Im taking the plunge and moving to Android ( much to the disgust of a couple of my Apple loving friends!).
I still think the iPhones an amazing piece of kit, but its just not for me anymore. So its just a long 2 day wait now!
I have a rooted HTC Desire HD with a custom ROM (Android RevolutionHD).
I have heard a lot of about moving the apps to the SD card to save space in the memory's phone, but does it really usefull apart of "saving memory"? or it can make slower the phone's boot because loading apps from the sd?
Need to know more about advantages and disadvantages of moving apps to the SD.
My priority is a faster / smoother phone UI and boot, being the memory space not so important.
Just installed the new update but I haven't come across one app that can be moved to SD yet. Can someone give me an example of one that definitely can so I can check?

There are still a lot of apps I would like to DL and try out, but before doing that I would like to move as much as possible to the SD card, it says I have 3.67 GB available, so plenty of room. However When I go to Applications--> Manage Applications the ption to move them to the SD card is grayed out and the option is not available to me. What do I need to do to turn it on?

View 3 Replies View RelatedAnyway I used the ''force apps to sd'' thingy, where you change the install location by connecting your phone to your PC and use commandprompt. You know: Lorin Bute - Home - How to force apps to move to the SD card onFroyo. Everything worked great until recently when the phone became unable to install many apps when microsd was chosen as the install location and some apps still wont install even with the setting set back to default. I can still force already installed apps to move to sd. One other odd thing is that I tried to install a GPS app and the installation failed (with the default install location). Then I quit almost all running processes using the built in process manager and then the install worked. After a reboot I tried to replicate my actions but no matter what I did I could no longer install the same app. My phone's inability to install some apps appears to be completely random. What's worse is that I installed froyo around the same time so maybe it has a part to play in my problem.

Is this true? If yes, the option to put in an SD card up to 64GB wouldn't make much sense (only for media), would it?

I realise there are a few threads about this, but I thought I would make a new one for my easier guide, and hopefully people will find it more easily as they won't have to scroll through pages of other threads to find an answer. Just followed instructions on how to move apps to sd card on an unrooted device....all worked well, moved what i wanted to, but would now like to put phone back to default settings to install apps to phone memory.
I tried to open run command on my pc with phone connected and typed pm setInstallLocation 0.....but all that comes up is command is not recognized.
I restored my apps but any new apps I download are saved on phone memory not SD. I have downloaded root explorer, but I don't know how to move apps or set default to save to card. Anyone know? I also have an app appearing twice in the menu when i install it. Removing and reinstalling causes the same. Also, how do i delete footprints and Google talk?

I have an Orange UK branded HTC Desire HD running stock firmware & NOT rooted. Since the fairly recent 2.3.5 update with Sense 3.0 I have found that I am regularly seeing Sense restart upon exiting an app and returning to the home screen. This is not related to a particular app, as it can happen when returning to home from ANY app. My wife is seeing the same behaviour on hers too.
Having posted on both HTC's & Orange's Facebook pages, I have been advised in no uncertain terms that as a first step I should perform a factory reset.
This is something that I have not done since I got my DHD (my 1st Android - plenty of hard resets on WM ). I have had a bit of a tidy up - clearing unnecessary data, uninstalling apps I don't use, etc. Pretty much ready to reset (but aware that there is SOME data that I will lose). However, there is one thing that I am unsure about...
I have previously moved a number of apps to the SD card. If I leave them there, will the existing data be recognised upon reinstalling the apps? Or will it cause me problems? Or will the existing data just be orphaned? I.e. should I move all apps back to the phone before performing the reset?
I have some fave. apps I would like to move to the first loading page.

Either I dont understand how it works or my desire not working properly. With no problem I can connect to GPS and can see its on but when i go to Maps application I cant see anything except flashing blue arrow. Maps dont load. My maps loaded when I connect to WiFi. Does it mean I always have to connect to GPS and internet to load maps? Feels strange that i cant see any maps with only GPS on.
