HTC Magic :: App To Transfer Things Easily With Bluetooth?
Jan 8, 2010
I am trying to find an app which makes transferring things to and fro easily with bluetooth. I have downloaded 'bluetooth file transfer' and find it a little complicated for easy transfers of pictures, music etc. I can send items but nobody seems to be able to find me to send me anything (phone is set to discoverable). I think it is great app just a little too much for what I want to do!
Does anyone know of an app which wors quickly and easily?

Three are agreeing to exchange my HTC Hero for an HTC Desire, because of the numerous problems with the Hero.
I've spent a bit of time setting up my Hero and installing apps - is there a way to easily back up my Hero's settings and apps and transfer them to the Desire?

I recently switched phones from BB 8900 (Javelin) to HTC Magic. Only way to transfer all my contacts that I could figure out was to transfer all my contacts to my MS Outlook, and then from there take all the contacts to my HTC Magic. Everything went perfect, but now the trouble began. Any new contact that I add to the phone gets added to the bottom of my contacts list. The contacts are supposed to be in alphabetical order, but the contacts i got from Outlook always stay on top, and then the new contacts I add are being added to the bottom of my contacts list. So it looks something like this ...

Am trying to play music on HTC Magic via bluetooth over the car stereo. I am able to control the phone's music player via the car stereo but no sound. Call control works fine over the car stereo via bluetooth. I have tried my wife's Nokia and it plays music with sound via the bluetooth over the car stereo. I have checked and HTC Magic does show the bluetooth is connected with phone and music.

When I get in my car my phone pairs with my Parrot so I can make and receive calls without using my phone. My HTC Magic pairs with the device fine (it does take 5 mins or so to sync fully) and I am able to see my contact list and make calls from it without any problems. It puts the audio and the microphone through the Parrot system and its fine. The problem occurs when I receive a call unfortunately. The Parrot system realizes I have an incoming call and cuts out my radio / cd in the car and rings as it should do.
Unfortunately my phone also rings and when I accept the call (on either the phone or the parrot) it doesn't automatically put the call through the parrot. I have to use the phone and manually set the call to go through the bluetooth, which as you can appreciate is a bit fiddly whilst trying to drive. I've had a look round for an app that sorts this, and checked the bluetooth settings on the phone but I've not been able to find anything as of yet that will solve the problem.

I've checked the option on the phone for the FTP folder. I have made the phone discoverable, and then been able to see it on the Mac. I go through the whole thing on the Mac, enter the codes on the screen, etc. but it then gives me a warning on the Mac that my phone doesn't have any bluetooth profiles, and then simply says that the devices are paired, but not connected.I heard the Hero had all sorts of problems connecting with a Mac to transfer files, but one would think this new Evo would work, given the FTP folder option. Anybody have any ideas? Have you tried it on a Mac, and been able to get it to work?

Does anyone know whether it is possible to push contacts from my HTC Magic to my Camry over bluetooth? I cannot find a way on the phone to beam or send or push contacts and the car requires the transfer to begin from the phone. I have sucessfully paired my phone and the car. I am suspecting that the present bluetooth stack for the Magic does not include the profile necessary to beam contacts, but would appreciate any insight from anyone. Is this something that could be available in the future?

I just got a Magic, and need to set up an external GPS receiver for it. I tried the bluetooth BlueNEXT BN-901S, but the Magic will not connect to it via bluetooth - it will pair, but it refuses to connect. The instructions mention that I need to assign a COM port to the receiver for the phone to recognize it - but Android doesn't offer that option.
Is there any way to get Android to recognize a Bluetooth GPS without needing that option? And are there any receivers compatible with the Magic?

I wanted to transfer files back and forth between my android pone and a laptop. Quite honestly I had never used bluetooth before, but since this phone has it I am playing around with it.I tried Astro and ES File explorer, but those work only if I need to transfer files between phones.I then found out Bluetooth File Transfer which lets me share files between my phone and my laptop. That app is very nice, and also by the same developer Dual File Manager.both free from the market. But I supposed file transfer via bluetooth between a laptop or other devices and the phone was a given. Is an extra app absolutely necessary or did I miss something? What other File Managers with bluetooth support do you know of?

I was playing around with my old LG Versa today. My son is using it for a camera. He's 7. I went to the bluetooth menu on the phone, put the device in discovery mode, and transferred a picture to the Versa from my Incredible. I thought shit, I wonder if I can transfer music this way. When I open up ES File Explorer, it has the option for bluetooth, but I cannot access the Versa from there. Does the Versa need a memory card to access from file explorer. It tells me invalid path or something.
Just found share option in stock music player. I use "3" instead for the album art, but the stock has bluetooth share. Now I gotta see if it works.

I am trying to tidy up contacts and want to transfer all the contacts on my Desire to my PC, tidy them and send them back. I had a look at the other thread s on this but they don't seem to cover Desire.
It seems I can only transfer contacts as VCards, one at a time, via bluetooth, is this the case? That would be a pain.
So, what are the alternatives? I think I can use sync but I'm not sure how. Any other options? Using the built in mailer in Desire, I assume, since I didn't load another one, and using Thunderbird on PC, if that info is pertinent.

I have been using astro to send files via bluetooth. I noticed however, that the type of files you can send is limited. It seems I can send pics & MP3s, but not PDFs or APKs for example. If i try to 'send' them in astro, I only get the mail or gmail options. Is this normal, or can't I drive the phone properly again?

I'm new to this forum and have just purchased a BNIB Hero locked to Orange,Rom Ver: 2.73.61.66.I am not much phone or PC savy but am learning. This is my first Android Phone.I discovered this site last night and spent a few hours reading, what a great site.Managed to set up a Google link, up loaded a bar scanner and scanned a couple of apps off this site, excellent.Unfortunately also spent a few hours trying to transfer a blue-tooth file from my existing phone to the Hero, to eventually find out the Orange Hero is not set up for this, I was truly amazed at this news.I am able to pair both devises, just the transfer won't take place.I searched this site and the web for an application that will allow me to do this, can anyone suggest one.
