I have moved from a long time Palm (not smartphone) and Nokia user. When I am in the dialer, I can't seem to get names when hit the keyboard. I just get numbers and if I hold long I get my speed dial. How can I get it to work like a real phone. - Hit 7 4 times and get to the S in the phone book. Also anyway to get last name, first name?

Got my phone today and am a bit disappointed if i'm honest.First thing, there seems to be a huge lag in the email, is this normal? Am using gmail and i get the email through straight away on the PC but about 15-30 mins later on my phone. Am used to instant email on the blackberry.
Also, i wonder if i'm doing something wrong in contacts. Have set up all my numbers and set the names to be displayed but when they come through some show the email address instead of the name? Can i get round this?
Just bought a Samsung Vibrant and while everyone I have emailed in the past four years shows up in my contacts none of names/numbers I put into my G1 are. Used the same SIM card- traded it from the G1 to the Vibrant. Any tips?

But in a result I get only Contact names without visible numbers. To make things worse, if one contact has two numbers it occurs twice.
I have been using Handcent for 2 days and didn't have any problems until last night. Its now showing only the phone number instead of the contact name. Has anyone had this problem? Any way to fix it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI think the Dialer is very powerful but I am unable to get it to recognize parts of a phone number. For example, most of my saved numbers include area codes (most of them are 'xyz'). When I type the first three of the 7-digit number (excluding the area code) no results show. It seems as though the area code must be typed in order to get results to show. Obviously, almost 95% of my contacts have an area code of 'xyz' and that's, IMO, too many buttons to press to start narrowing down to get a specific contact. Does anyone know how to change this?

Assume I have a contact entry "John Doe" with both a Mobile and a Home number.
When I speak "John Doe", if the dialer can't correctly pinpoint the contact name (eg: "John Doe" vs "Jane Doe"), then it correctly shows me all of the numbers for both people. However, if it correctly matches to the exact name ("John Doe"), then it shows me only the primary number for "John Doe".
It doesn't matter whether I say "Call John Doe", "Call John Doe at Home", or "Call John Doe on Mobile". In all cases I just get a single number offered.
Anyone have any work around for this? Also if you are in the sense browser you cannot click on a phone number that has. instead of - and have it dial. you can on the basic Android browser.
It is these two things that kill sense for me. If anyone has any workarounds they would be much appreciated.
Can anyone explain to me how the voice dialer chooses the possible phone numbers it displays as options? All of my contacts have at least two phone numbers (mobile and work), for some contacts the voice dialer only lists one number and for others, it will list all of them.I thought it might have something to do with the designated 'primary' number, but changing that has no effect.When I ask the app to call my wife, it only shows her mobile number even though there are two other numbers in her contact info.Even if I say to call her "at work" the work number won't show up, only the mobile number.

Other than checking the numbers against my contacts or by the content I've no idea who's sending me messages.
I have had my HTC Desire for 3 or 4 weeks now and I am determined to like it. I'm stuck with it for 24 months so I have to!! However, synching with my outlook contacts and calendar seems to be a very hit and miss affair. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I am running Vista 32 bit on a Vaio laptop with outlook 2003 (I hope to move to google apps soon but it feels like a big job to do it so i need enough time to work it all out). I downloaded HTC synch from the web but that didn't work so I used the version on my phone and that seemed to work better! I am using HTC Sync, version: 2.0.28. I always start HTC Synch first and then connect the phone. i select the synch option on the phone, but it usually fails to connect at that point. If I then a wait a little, and if I am lucky, it seems to connect itself and the Application installer icon pops up on the HTC Synch screen. then i can try again to synch. And sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. This is a lot of messing about - i wish it would just work - is there anything i can do? Also, when i receive texts from kid's school or my bank, the phone seems to assign random names from my contacts list. How weird is that? Any ideas for a cure? I have also found that it can be extremely slow to load videos on youtube. at the weekend i was with someone who had a iphone on the same network in the same place and they had no problem. Grrrrr!! often when it fianlly gets the video and starts to play it it stops halfway through - data is obviously not coming through quickly enough. Is there anything i can do to help this. Finally I am very disappointed that it can't make phone calls as well as my old Nokia 6230. same place, same network, perfect on the old phone, dropping out and bad reception on the HTC. The old phone worked fine in the local supermarket, The HTC simply says NO NETWORK. Have i got a bad phone or is this typical?

Even after turning all possible vibration options off (i.e. haptic feedback and 'vibrate when you type' in text input), the vibratory mode on the phone dialer still doesn't go away. When I press the keys on the phone dialer keypad, it still vibrates. I have no idea whether it is a HTC feature or a problem with my handset.

However, when I go to the dialer page the phone shows both phone contacts and SIM contacts resulting in multiple duplicate contacts from where I copied from SIM to Phone when I first got the handset. I have this weird problem. When I add peoples phone numbers and sync with Face book sometimes I lose the phone number or they disappear all together I save my contacts via goggle, I'm not sure if any other way would make a difference. Also, I woke up this morning and my number has disappeared, maybe my phone is trying to tell me something.
