im new to all this android smart phone thing and i just wanted to ask a few questions if anyone can help with regards to the apps i have heard that they dont close down what do you have to do to close them? also with the HTC friend stream does this always need to be contected to the internet to update? wont this use all your data on your contract?

I'm new to my HTC Desire and Android in general, so please bear with me. At home, I have no Wi-Fi but my PC is connected to the web via ADSL. Is there a way to allow my HTC Desire to connect to the internet via USB using the connection my PC has to the internet (i.e. using it as a gateway)? I know that you can use the phone to allow the PC to connect to the web - but is the opposite possible as well?

View 2 Replies View RelatedTimescape used to work fine but now everytime I try to update facebook it with "Could not update from Facebook - could not connect to the internet." I've seen discussed on other forums about the notification displaying even thouh the update was successful - in ny case it actually does fail. My phone's internet settings are unlikely to be the problem as i have had no difficulty watching HD streaming video connecting through Optus Australia 3G.
I've tried signing out of the facebook ap and also signing out from facebook in the browser just in case facbook was denying the connection - this did not fix it. I've tried deleting the timescape facebook service account and adding it again - didn't fix. I have also gone into Manage Applicatons and hit 'Clear data' for timescape - also didn't fix.
Would it be possible to "sync" my apps so that they all connect to the internet at the same time to update, as opposed to each doing them at different times?For instance, my k-9 mail checks for email every hour, but my News and Weather Widget checks every 30 minutes (I think), and my Beautiful Widgets Home Widget checks for weather every 2 hours. I fear that even if I set them all to 1 hour, they'd all be checking at one hour past the time I told them to check, which would still be different times. Is there any way to just sync all of my apps that automatically connect to the internet?

View 2 Replies View RelatedGot the phone on Monday and have just been getting my head around it but mainly at home and on wifi out and about today and realised it just will not use mobile broadband this is despite it being set (I think) to use mobile internet when no wifi. I tried to search and it seems lots of people have some sort of problem like this. when I'm in wireless settings and networks and push the connect to mobile network button, I just get a 'connection failed due to incorrect APN setting message' though having looked at it it looks right general.t-mobile.uk. nothing I do seems to change this (switching wifi off, walking out of range, leaving it on)
one thing I have also noticed though is I have never seen any g,h, e etc by the signal strenth indicator (which is normally only 1 or 2 bars - i.e. poor). so I assume it's just not finding 3g etc signal, despite the t-mobile website mobile broadband checker saying its been good strength in all the places Ive been today! I've also tried repeated power off and on again and airplane mode, then switching this off. this is really winding me up now as its a great phone but not if you cant use it's mobile internet functions when out and about.
Been using internet brilliantly for about a month on HTC Desire right up to a couple of days ago after an update. Now it refuses to connect to any type of internet, 3G or WiFi.
I'm on contract with 3 (despite bad repuation in the past they appear to have caught up with other providers), but am still waiting to see if it is a problem on their side.
I'm having a problem with my internet connection on my SGS. It used to lock to T-m*bile, I unlocked it lastweek then use L*bara instead cause got free internet service hehe. somehow, everytime i try to use internet service it says unable to connect to internet/ network unavailable. but I tried the simcard with another phone and it was working. some friends suggest me to re-unlock it. but i donno how to re-unlock it.

View 20 Replies View RelatedI've experienced quite a lot of problems with the WiFi after updating the Andriod. Everytime I try to connect to my home-network i get that it failed to connect.
The phone didn't have any problems with this before the update.
Anyone had the same kind of problem, or anyone that has a smart fix for it?
Right basically you can find the UK T mobile internet settings on the T mobile website. On the Speed Test app, the highest speeds I get are 1.8m/bs downloads and around 500kpbs upload. However, those were at off peak times at night etc (probably when nobody is using the net).Generally I get anything from 0.3 m/bs to 0.9 m/bs though. Lately I've been experiencing some inconsistent internet speeds and reconnection attempts so for I've gone back to the default settings. Tbh though I'm not sure if it makes much difference.

In settings - wirless & network - moblie network is "grayed" out. I called verizon tech and they said it might be because I received the phone before the release date and I should wait until April 29th or 30th and it should be working.

He can receive calls fine but for some reason the mobile internet does not work even though his SIM is enabled for it. His phone does not have Market, but SlideMe, which suggests it is a Malaysian Hero (I think)? I don't know if this is the reason.
I tried my SIM card in his Hero and, again, it will not connect to mobile internet. I checked the settings and under Mobile Network Settings/Access Point Names there is nothing and none of the fields are completed (I never had to set this up on my Hero, it was automatically completed by my SIM Card/Provider once switched on).

Since it's been connected I can't connect to the internet from my LG Optimus S while wi-fi is on--it says page can't be displayed. I'm definitely connected to my home network.
