HTC :: Cannot Unlock My HTC Desire After 2.2 Upgrade
Oct 1, 2010
First of all, I would just like to say that I am new to this forum and I apologize in anticipation if I am posting this information under the wrong category. I have done my best to read the rules before posting. Anyway here goes. I am quite desperate because I cannot use my phone as I should. I bought an HTC Desire 3 months ago from Vodafone(in Romania) without a plan so I purchased the phone at its full price. Consequently, Vodafone issued a free unlock code for my phone so I could go ahead and use it with whichever provider I want. For various reasons, I have not unlocked the phone in due time(as I had been using their pre-paid for a while) and upgraded the OS to 2.2 when the upgrade was launched. To be honest, the update came out of the blue and I guess I wasn't realizing what I was doing at the time so I went ahead with the upgrade. Now, after going to the store where I bought the phone they have tried additional unlock codes and none of their unlock codes work! I have tried to get an unlock code online from a pretty respectable unlock provider and still I get: "Incorrect Code" when trying to do a network unlock. I am now in another country (UK) and cannot unlock my phone so I can use it with any of the providers here. It just seems like any of the codes generated of of my IMEI are not working. I don't know much about phones, but this is driving me crazy, and I would really really appreciate any feedback or suggestion here from someone more experienced.

Two weeks ago, after upgrading to 2.2 on my HTC Desire I lost the Market app - clicking on the short-cut produced an error and the market app has disappeared from the list of software.
Also, I don't seem to be able to install new programmes via app marketplace websites any more. I guess this is linked to the missing market app. How can I get it back?

I'm considering selling my 5/6month old Desire to fund the purchase of a sim free HD.
Hopefully I'd only end up spending around 150-200 for it.
Is the jump up worth it? I'm a sucker for upgrade and I have to say the HD looks nicer than the Desire, but obviously it's what inside that count. Apparently.
One big thing is the whole htcsense.com thing, and with confirmation of the Desire getting support for that still quite unclear and apparently unlikely, I'm leaning towards getting the HD...

I am about to purchuse a new desire from Cellular South. Is it possible to upgrade it to 2.2? I didnt know if the carrier has anything to do with this. Also, with android can you take off the data services when you dont need it? My plan is unlimited, but i live in a rural are and the constant searching would kill the battery, id like to just use the wifi.

I have carried out a android backup and a titanium backup.Have also copied the contents of the SD card to my PC.Whats the best way to proceed? Can I just install the 1.8 rom, without formatting my SD card, so it overwrites the 1.6 version. Thus keeping all my apps and settings.

After installing the froyo upgrade, I cannot use a keyboard. I get the message:
'Sorry! The application HTC_IME mod (process jonasl.ime) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.' 'Force close'.
How do I get a keyboard? I can't type anything.

I purchased the unlock code from globalunlock.com - Global Unlock - The Official Mobile Phone Unlocking Site. After i inserted the code i get the "Invalid Password" message. (By the way the company have no support, no refund, nothing, don't buy from them) I was wonder if there will be some suggestions how to solve this problem?

So I just unlocked my desire (allowing me to use the new phone on o2 for the last few days of my contract) but 2 new icons have appears in the top left corner.
The first is a "general alert" according to the user guide, a trianle with an "!" along the horizontal line.
The 2nd is a circle, within a shape I can only describe as a tear drop, with an "!" to the right of it. I cant find this one in the user guide.
Can anyone explain what these mean?

I am new to the andriod platform an i have just got a HTC Desire with Virgin Mobile, PLEASE BE GENTLE.....
It does not seem to be sim locked as i have tried an Orange sim in the phone and it works. I have seen a Desire with Froyo on it and want to upgrade my phone. After trying all the guides on various forums i still cannot upgrade and VM is not offering the update OTA.
when trying the Goldcard method I get error wrong bootloader, when trying with the OTA named update.zip using recovery it also throws up an error and exits. What i have done now is rooted the phone using unrevoked3 method which has worked. i want to have a stock 2.2 phone, not bothered about keeping the root, if i put the OTA update.zip on the sd card (or goldcard as i have created one) and flash using the clockworkmod recovery which is now on my phone will this work or should i update the radio first and will i be able to get OTA updates in future?
Firmware 2.1-update1
Baseband version 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2
Software number 1.23.351.1
Bootloader 0.80.0000
when it boots it has the VM logo but apart from that there is no other branding on the phone. Obviously i dont want to brick the phone, i have done lots of reading and i am still unsure of how i can get my phone updated.

My Desire was crashing, so I requested a replacement with O2 business. I upgraded to 2.2 last week using the software update link on the phone. Today I received my 'new' handset from O2 which still has 2.1-update1 as the firmware version. When I tried to upgrade I was informed there is no newer version. Spoke to O2 business, who told me that HTC had withdrawn it again. I'm kinda pleased that my 2.2 desire has been sent back, if there are serious enough issues with Froyo for it to be withdrawn. I did like a couple of things extra in the menu structures, but is it really that important?

Got my Desire just under a months ago. Had to return it for endless restarting & freezing 2 days ago. Got an unbranded replacement. Just did the O2 OTA upgrade and I notice I have no Market app. (I may be missing other things also, I don't know, since I'm a fairly new user).

I have an Orange branded Desire which I rooted a while ago. My problem is that the software update doesn't seem to work. My current software number is 1.12.405.4. If I check for updates it says there is 1.12.405.2 available, but when I download and install it the software version of the phone doesn't change. I've done it half a dozen times over a couple of weeks.

I have rooted my Desire and it works like a charm. Now when I want to upgrade my memory card from a 4Gb to a 8Gb card, I ran into some problems! My Desire refuses to start up with the new card, it comes to the boot screen and loops from there!
What am I doing wrong?

Warning - confussed noob. Currently running on HTC Desire (Telstra): Build Ver: 1.16.841.1 I have downloaded from Shipped ROMS: RUU _ Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.0 0.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed.exe. If I do not want to root, do I just run the above EXE? Can I downgrade afterwards by just using the HTC Telstra ROM EXE? (HTC desire_RUU_Bravo_Telstra_WWE_1.16.841.1_Radio_32.3 0.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_126124_signed.exe)

I just arrived to the Android world as the Desire is my first Android device. I would be grateful if someone could answer my question. I *did* search the forum for the answer before posting, but being completely new to Android, I couldn't find the one that would satisfy me - so if it is out there, please forgive me for asking it here.Anyway, coming from the N900 I was used to OTA OS updates without restrictions. Now, I'm looking forward to the 2.2 version of the Android (mostly for Flash 10.1 and apps installable on the SD card). However, I got the impression (hopefully a wrong one) that in order to install 2.2 on your Desire (unlocked), it must be pushed by your phone service provider/carrier (as opposed to the N900 where you could just download it and flash your device with it or upgrade over-the-air). This is a problem for me, since the carriers in my country don't seem to be interested in sending any OS upgrades (to any device) and the upgrade must be done manually. As I mentioned, the device is not locked to any carrier (if by that it means that you can put any SIM card in it and it works). Now, I know you could root your Desire and do it, but I'm wondering if there will be a way to upgrade to 2.2 (or just replace by flashing) without rooting? Also, if rooting is my only option - how dangerous is it? The N900 came rooted out-of-the-box (you just download the app to gain superuser privileges) so I have no idea what are the possible risks of doing it on your Desire. Can it permanently damage the phone?

i know its another one of those threads but despite reading up on this so so so many times and on different websites, i am finding it really difficult to understand. I have an o2 phone locked and branded. i want to unlock and unbrand (so i can use another sim and no more o2 on start up). however does this mean i have to root? I dont really understand why one wants to root, (rooting is different from unbranding right? but once u root u will unbrand, correct?) but can u unbrand without rooting? also once u unbrand, what happens to the market? read somewhere after unbranding they could not access very much? does it matter which conoutry you are in? i will be using the desire in asia. still cannot understand roms, cusotm roms, htc roms, soo confused

I have just received my unlock code from T-Mobile. Only problem is their procedure asks me to fit a non T-Mobile simcard as part of the procedure.
Is this the only way I can do it? Must I have a different sim-card to start the unlocking? I don`t have one so bit of a problem.

I have my new desire for almost a week now. I am trying to unlock it (it's locked to telus). I have tryed many website (mobileincanada, cellunlock) but they still answer me that the didn't receive the codes for ''new'' Desires.I didnt ask a refund from cellunlock because he told me that if he doesnt have it, no one else will have it.so I'd better wait (1-3 buisness days) after 3 buisness days they still don't have it.I've spoken to an other admin from htccode dot com and they can 'give it a try'because they have acess to ''all' databases. I'm not into asking a refund from cellunlock and be stucked again with htccode. Can someone explain me the theory of 'new databases' Vs 'old databases'?How do these buisness work? How can they have to htc databases... why HTC give them access? Hopefully I will find someone here who's in my situation and will try to help out

Received the upgrade from Telstra Australia today for my Desire. I'm not very good with the tech and software side of things (quite a dunce really) and have looked for a guide as to what to do prior to installing the update and also once completed. Is anyone able to steer me in the right direction as to where a good guide is or maybe a few pointers. My phone isn't rooted and is not something I want to gamble with being not techsavvy.

how to go back to stock so they can get the official froyo rom. Why exactly?
- you may never be able to root again
- stock froyo apps2sd is very bad comparedto rooted a2sd+
- rooted roms based on the stock froyo rom will be faster and more stable than stock

I noticed today that when I went to the YouTube website in the browser that when I try to play a video is says "Old Flash, Go Upgrade", clicking the link takes me to the Adobe website but it won't let me install the latest Flash. I can still play videos on other websites and also on the YouTube application but just not from the website. Is there a way to upgrade the Flash?
