HTC Desire :: O2 Removed The 2.2 Froyo Upgrade
Oct 4, 2010
My Desire was crashing, so I requested a replacement with O2 business. I upgraded to 2.2 last week using the software update link on the phone. Today I received my 'new' handset from O2 which still has 2.1-update1 as the firmware version. When I tried to upgrade I was informed there is no newer version. Spoke to O2 business, who told me that HTC had withdrawn it again. I'm kinda pleased that my 2.2 desire has been sent back, if there are serious enough issues with Froyo for it to be withdrawn. I did like a couple of things extra in the menu structures, but is it really that important?

Got my Desire just under a months ago. Had to return it for endless restarting & freezing 2 days ago. Got an unbranded replacement. Just did the O2 OTA upgrade and I notice I have no Market app. (I may be missing other things also, I don't know, since I'm a fairly new user).

Warning - confussed noob. Currently running on HTC Desire (Telstra): Build Ver: 1.16.841.1 I have downloaded from Shipped ROMS: RUU _ Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.0 0.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed.exe. If I do not want to root, do I just run the above EXE? Can I downgrade afterwards by just using the HTC Telstra ROM EXE? (HTC desire_RUU_Bravo_Telstra_WWE_1.16.841.1_Radio_32.3 0.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_126124_signed.exe)

Received the upgrade from Telstra Australia today for my Desire. I'm not very good with the tech and software side of things (quite a dunce really) and have looked for a guide as to what to do prior to installing the update and also once completed. Is anyone able to steer me in the right direction as to where a good guide is or maybe a few pointers. My phone isn't rooted and is not something I want to gamble with being not techsavvy.

how to go back to stock so they can get the official froyo rom. Why exactly?
- you may never be able to root again
- stock froyo apps2sd is very bad comparedto rooted a2sd+
- rooted roms based on the stock froyo rom will be faster and more stable than stock

Has the copy/search function been removed from the browser in froyo or did it never have it? When i copy in the browser, I only see the option to share or copy to the clipboard. I have the HTC mytouch slide 3g, running 2.1 and when I copy in that browser, I have the option to search but I don't see that with the Incredible.

I got my "dinc" in early August with 2.1 onboard and recieved the OTA froyo upgrade about two weeks ago. I like 2.2 (I think) but not all the battery-vampire crap-apps that came with it. I desparately want to root so that I can explore the full potential of this phone and hopefully find some options to extend my battery and get rid of the bloatware.
Unrevoked's website says v3.2 has been temporarily pulled and to use v2.2 "in the meantime". I've tried several of the methods that call for 3.2 using 2.2 and it seems to work up to the reboot step towards the end. Each time I get this "failed to flash recovery image" message. I've followed every detail of several videos and posts (including one from this forum) instructing how to root with Unrevoked, but the end result is always the same.
1. Can I use Unrevoked to root my phone with the froyo upgrade in place?
2. If so, how? Because what I've been trying ain't gettin' it done.
3. If not, is there a way to roll-back to 2.1 so that I can use Unrevoked?
4. Could the 2.2 version of Unrevoked be casuing my "failed flash" issue?

So I upgraded to Froyo last night. Very nice update, amazing how fast this new version of android is. Along with some of the enhancements already mentioned, it seems the stock keyboard is much more accurate and I find my self not deleting so many letters.

I am currently rooted with 2.1 and have cyanogenmod installed. What is the most painless way to upgrade to 2.2? Should I install it manually and just boot my phone to 2.2? Also, if I do that will i loose all my text, apps, etc.

I'm probably in the same situation as many SGS owners, i.e. installed the one click LAG fix to overcome the issues with 2.1. As 2.2 is due out (in the UK) probably sometime in the next few weeks, can someone more technical advise if the LAG fix should be removed and the phone unrooted before the official upgrade. Additionally, is there any benefit moving up to 2.2 other than Flash? I haven't had any real issues with the phone other than the initial LAG. I'm on Orange UK, but I don't suppose that really matters?

I've posted this question over on the Samsung Galaxy S section, however, it may be a more general query that someone can help with, particularly the unrooting query as I realise some other phone users have already went through the 2.1-2.2 upgrade. I've rooted and applied the "one click LAG fix" to my glitchy SGS running 2.1 and the phone performs very smoothly and reliably since. (benchmarks are consistently over 2200, although I realise that statistics aren't everything)
It is expected that sometime in the next few weeks in the UK (???) that the upgrade to Froyo will be available through the Samsung KIES desktop software rather than OTA and I have the following queries.
1. Should the phone be unrooted before an upgrade is attempted?
2. Should the "LAG fix" be removed before an upgrade?
3. Has anyone previously removed their "LAG fix" and can they advise if there are any gotchas I should look out for?

I have seen several posts noting problems requiring a hard reset. I myself had to do this, as I couldn't always answer the phone (swipes were simply ignored about 70% of the time) and the weather widget was out, too. Had to hard reset and, from what I hear, so have many others. Why is this? I called HTC, who called what Verizon did "buggy".

I updated officially to Froyo 2.2 today from the VZW notification. Now, whenever I select my camcorder, it goes back to the home screen and does not launch. I removed a flashlight app that I had installed from the market. I restarted several times. Tried removing the battery for 15 minutes. All no help. any suggestions. Everything else seems to work properly.

I have a stock froyo 2.2 on my device with no o2 operator logo thanks to the debranding batch file on xda developers, it's also got root. This seems quite stable and hasn't displayed the random crashing that happens on almost any ROM that I've tried. What's the closest ROM to stock but with a lot of the unnecessary apps removed?

Went to use my phone today, not only would it not connect to the internet via mobile data connection or WiFi, when it did it had removed more than half of my previously installed apps. Eventually they all 'turned up' but one, Soundhound had reinstalled twice and both times the paid version.

Under Accounts and Sync (in Settings), Stocks and Weather seem to nestle permanently - I can't see a way of getting them out of there. I don't use the Stocks app at all and have turned autosync off on it. Is there a way to get if off the Accounts and Sync screen?
UPDATE
Adding why I want it to go: each time I go to the Accounts and Sync screen, the Stocks app ends up getting restarted! Even if I force close it from "Managing Apps", it shows up again as running when I go to the Accounts and Sync screen.
