Two weeks ago, after upgrading to 2.2 on my HTC Desire I lost the Market app - clicking on the short-cut produced an error and the market app has disappeared from the list of software.
Also, I don't seem to be able to install new programmes via app marketplace websites any more. I guess this is linked to the missing market app. How can I get it back?

Got my Desire just under a months ago. Had to return it for endless restarting & freezing 2 days ago. Got an unbranded replacement. Just did the O2 OTA upgrade and I notice I have no Market app. (I may be missing other things also, I don't know, since I'm a fairly new user).
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy friend just lost his Desire at an airport. The pattern lock is active, but that does nothing but protect the data on the phone - Not SD. The first thing they would do is to switch the phone off and replace the sim.
Now here is my question : Is there an app that will send an sms to a preallocated number if the phone is booted up with a different sim? I know some Samsung phones can do this. But having an app that requires your own sim to be able to find it if stolen is quite pointless.
I'm considering selling my 5/6month old Desire to fund the purchase of a sim free HD.
Hopefully I'd only end up spending around 150-200 for it.
Is the jump up worth it? I'm a sucker for upgrade and I have to say the HD looks nicer than the Desire, but obviously it's what inside that count. Apparently.
One big thing is the whole htcsense.com thing, and with confirmation of the Desire getting support for that still quite unclear and apparently unlikely, I'm leaning towards getting the HD...
has anyone else had trouble geting the update (Version 1.25.841.5)on to their phone!i have downloaded it but it just saves into my downloads not my phone!

Sometimes when i try to send a txt message my phone forces a close and when it re-opens the txt messages, all my messages have been lost, very annoying it is. Any thoughts on how to stop this or is my phone faulty? Also for some reason my phone won't back up my data to my SD card which it says it will do automatically.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI used the 'force all apps to move to SD' method on Froyo on my HTC Desire and for a good while all was working really well. I was happy with the space I was saving.Today I used a backup tool from Navigon, Fresh, to backup my Satnav purchase. During this time my Desire rebooted itself while connected to my laptop via USB.When the phone came back I found that ALL my apps currently installed to the SD card are now no longer available in my menu and when I go to manage Apps I can see them but they are greyed out with a little SD in the corner of their icons.I can't move them back to the phone and Market appears to think that they are no longer installed. However I can see them in my manage Apps area.So physically they are still on my SD card, they are still showing in the manage Apps menu (but greyed out) and they are still taking space up. I just can't start them or move them.

Im not bothered about root really, just wanted wireless tethering.I had the T-Moblie OTA update request which I did try, but it didnt work and now says i'm up to date.So my question is how do I upgrade to 2.2?

View 18 Replies View Relatedfor the last 4 or 5 days frequently, when i'm composing a text the screen with flip back to the all messages page and completley lose the text i'm in the middle of. most frustrating and quite unpredictable. had the phone about 2 months, and its been fine up until now. have done the usual off/ on. cant think that i've changed any settings but i've had a few new apps from time to time.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI love my new Desire! It has prompted six people in my office to purchase it, but what I have found to be annoying is that I have lost the generic HTC browser. This happened when I installed Dolphin.
I now have Opera 5 Mini Beta and that Orange Browser labelled "Internet" but not the stock one. I want it back as its great at rendering pages etc..
I just completed the RUU update to get my Telus Desire onto froyo and all went smoothly...except...now I don't have data? Phone works, wifi connection works...but I don't have data off wifi.

View 4 Replies View RelatedBizarrely I seem to have lost all the videos I had on my SD Card. Including those I had recorded with my phone, these were in the same folder as the photos which are all still there.
Also missing are the films I had on there in a totally different folder on the SD card.
It is as if I have set it to search and delete anything that ressembled a video.
Anyone know how/why this could have happened.
I have rebooted several times, and removed and re-seated the card.
I've just rooted my Desire, but I managed to lose the Youtube Application.

I am about to purchuse a new desire from Cellular South. Is it possible to upgrade it to 2.2? I didnt know if the carrier has anything to do with this. Also, with android can you take off the data services when you dont need it? My plan is unlimited, but i live in a rural are and the constant searching would kill the battery, id like to just use the wifi.

I have done my best to read the rules before posting. Anyway here goes. I am quite desperate because I cannot use my phone as I should. I bought an HTC Desire 3 months ago from Vodafone(in Romania) without a plan so I purchased the phone at its full price. Consequently, Vodafone issued a free unlock code for my phone so I could go ahead and use it with whichever provider I want. For various reasons, I have not unlocked the phone in due time(as I had been using their pre-paid for a while) and upgraded the OS to 2.2 when the upgrade was launched. To be honest, the update came out of the blue and I guess I wasn't realizing what I was doing at the time so I went ahead with the upgrade. Now, after going to the store where I bought the phone they have tried additional unlock codes and none of their unlock codes work! I have tried to get an unlock code online from a pretty respectable unlock provider and still I get: "Incorrect Code" when trying to do a network unlock. I am now in another country (UK) and cannot unlock my phone so I can use it with any of the providers here. It just seems like any of the codes generated of of my IMEI are not working. I don't know much about phones, but this is driving me crazy, and I would really really appreciate any feedback or suggestion here from someone more experienced.

How do I get a keyboard? I can't type anything.
Took my HTC Desire to Italy and since then have lost all mobile data connections - though works fine on WiFi. Switched on airplane mode for flights, and switched off data roaming to reduce overseas costs. But when switched back on to use internet couldn't get any network connection. Now back in the UK still same issue - no internet, and cannot send MMS picture messages - even when in strong 3G signal Tried all the options I can find but no joy at all.

Anyway, I want to know if there's a way to get back the apps that I had installed on it - will the marketplace recognise it's me and offer me all the ones I had installed, or do I just have to remember which ones I installed (paid and free) and go and find them again? If so, is there a list recorded anywhere in my google account? In hindsight, a kinda nice thing about the apple app store is that you get a receipt for everything you install, so that's kind of useful.
View 7 Replies View Relatedall my numbers were saved into the sim fine no problem. all present and correct. when i went to manually enter a contact last night it gave me the option to store to googlemail, phone or sim.... well not knowing that my contacts were now stored under googlemail. i thought i would pick phone, one little message later (something about changing settings) but not saying it would wipe my contacts ...everyone apart from this new number i maunually entered were gone! so checked that i had checked the box to back up everything ( i had), tried to import from sim.... but nothing !!!! no contacts !!!!
EVERY other phone i have had you can save to any file sim, phone etc without a hitch , why not this one? are my contacts really all gone? or is there a way to rectify this?
a few numbers i remembered have now been entered into my phonebook manually and saved under googlemail .... but what happens if i accidently pick phone or sim again...... back to square one anyone else had this happen ? is there a way to get them back ? and a way around this in the future. ? if not the desire is going back
I cant seem to be able to add more then a gig or two of music before it all gets deleted into the LOST.DIR folder on my sd card when I try to add new music.Any idea?

I go to search in the market, and type in dialer, it brings up all the customisable dialer choices, if i choose ANY of them, i go to pay, and everytime i get the error message "A server error has occurred,retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen" but it is only on the dialer packages.i can buy and download anything else fine,
Can someone test this out for me?

It does not seem to be sim locked as i have tried an Orange sim in the phone and it works. I have seen a Desire with Froyo on it and want to upgrade my phone. After trying all the guides on various forums i still cannot upgrade and VM is not offering the update OTA.
when trying the Goldcard method I get error wrong bootloader, when trying with the OTA named update.zip using recovery it also throws up an error and exits. What i have done now is rooted the phone using unrevoked3 method which has worked. i want to have a stock 2.2 phone, not bothered about keeping the root, if i put the OTA update.zip on the sd card (or goldcard as i have created one) and flash using the clockworkmod recovery which is now on my phone will this work or should i update the radio first and will i be able to get OTA updates in future?

when it boots it has the VM logo but apart from that there is no other branding on the phone. Obviously i dont want to brick the phone, i have done lots of reading and i am still unsure of how i can get my phone updated.
My Desire was crashing, so I requested a replacement with O2 business. I upgraded to 2.2 last week using the software update link on the phone. Today I received my 'new' handset from O2 which still has 2.1-update1 as the firmware version. When I tried to upgrade I was informed there is no newer version. Spoke to O2 business, who told me that HTC had withdrawn it again. I'm kinda pleased that my 2.2 desire has been sent back, if there are serious enough issues with Froyo for it to be withdrawn. I did like a couple of things extra in the menu structures, but is it really that important?

If I check for updates it says there is 1.12.405.2 available, but when I download and install it the software version of the phone doesn't change. I've done it half a dozen times over a couple of weeks.

What am I doing wrong?
