General :: App That Automatically Connects To Any Open WiFi Network?
Mar 10, 2014I'm wondering of there's some app that automatically connects to any open WiFi network.

View 1 RepliesAny 'Tasker' like program I can use on my windows PC? I'd like to be able to have my computer recognize when my S3 connects to my router, and automatically do things, like start up Spotify. Seems like this would be pretty simple, but my searches have turned up nothing...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've never used the wifi hotspot feature on my EVO, but it seems pretty simple as to how it works... What I'm wondering is if it functions like a typical wireless router. Specifically, does it create a LAN network between connects peers? I'm wondering if it would be at all possible to do something like play (low bandwith) multiplayer LAN games over the EVO's wifi hotspot?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy school has an open wifi network. When you first use a device on the network, it presents an authentication page so that you can get full access. I authenticated, and my Vibrant connects fine and is assigned an IP. I checked with the network admin, and my MAC address is registered correctly in their system.
But I can't get any data. Sometimes if I disconnect and reconnect I can load one or two pages, but then data stops.
Other Android users (Nexus One, Droid X) don't seem to have this problem. I'm trying to get the network pro to come and help me out with this, but it seems to be a problem with my phone. Yet my wifi connection at home works fine.
Every day when I arrive home, my SGS3 has connected to some open network near my house. I never want it to do this automatically but can't stop it from happening. This never happens on my wife's I phone 4s...
I've set advanced settings to not notify me when an open network is nearby, but the damned phone keeps connecting to unwanted connections. How to stop that?
I'm on sgs3 with 4.1.2.
im not sure if there is a app that does this but i want to automatically start a service/app (VPN) when joining a open/free wifi if not, then how would i best do this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm downloaded several wifi apps, but I'm looking for one that will automatically connect to open networks.
Or at least to saved/remembered networks without me having to scan and connect.
That's basically the problem. My Visual Land Prestige 10 Android 4.0 10" Tablet i got from WalMart readily connects to all kinds of public wi-fi networks with no problems. BUT it will not connect to my home wi-fi network, which is from Cox Cable via a Linksys router.
I have several other devices, including a Palm Tablet, a Galaxy S3, and an Asus laptop, and all of these connect to my home wi-fi with no problem.
So why does my tablet not do so? It recognizes the existence of the wi-fi network, but never connects. It just says "saved", and that's it.
I am able to access the WiFi server with my DI2, but I cannot get any service. This has been happening for several weeks. My wife has the same issue with her iPhone.
For example, on my Facebook App, when I try to load the app, I get an error that says Connection Lost. When I go to Play Store to download apps, it tells me there is no connection. You get the point.
Note that on occasion, I am able to load the internet and get Google, but when I do a search, back to the error messages.
It also happens at home when we connect to our wireless network. Sometimes it works, but lately it's been unable to load.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.2
This is quite odd. My mobile data (4G LTE) symbol in the header area used to dim (like when you disable mobile) when my Wifi kicked in and it does not anymore.
So it always appears that both 4G and Wifi are active at the same time. Only after watching which up/down arrows are flickering do I know which is working.
And on some occasions, the arrows on both flicker. I am not 100% sure, but I think this started after I turned on the Ultra Power Savings mode.
Not sure why but I have to manually connect to my home WiFi all of the time.Super annoying because I catch a terrible signal in the apartments I live and I leave my wifi on which drains my battery for basically nothing.
View 4 Replies View Relatedmy WiFi connects just fine but I cannot use any apps like market or internet browsers. it says please check your internet connection every time. if I set a static ip it works fine. I thought it was my router but it happened at staples. same thing. connects but cannot browse.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI need to revisit this again, because soon I am going to RRU and set my phone back to stock and call Verizon so they can send me a new one. My issue is that when I connect to a wifi network, Secured or not, G/B/N anything it connects gets an IP but I get no internet connectivity. When I set a static IP it works fine and I have no isssues. I know my stuff pretty well, but is there an app that will tell me my network info like DNS, Netmask and IP out there? I am trying to find out if for some reason its not getting a DNS entry. I have even go so far at my house to change the DHCP to my wireless router opposed to my Sonicwall thinking that might be the issue.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi have upgraded my viewsonic pad from gingerbread to ics, downloaded from official site, no problem installing it, everything is fine except when i open anything whether app or not (eg settings) after a few mins the tablet automatically goes back to home screen, i have noticed that it occurs more when i am holding it if its on a stable surface it doesn't do it as much. i have tried redownloading the file and installing twice now and its still the same.
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust bought my Epic over the weekend, love it so far.
However, the WIFI will connect, obtain an IP address but doesn't work. Pages wont load, marketplace wont connect etc.
Home network is WPA2 TKIP and AES
Work network is wide open
I tried kicking it into airplane mode and then turning airplane mode off, doesn't seem to matter.
I just got an i7500 from France this morning. I like the phone but I didn't mean to bid so much on eBay... oh well, I've got it now!
Anyway, I am not able to use my wifi connection.
Major points as follows:
- I can turn wifi on, connect to my wireless network after being asked for the password (I've got WPA2 security set up on my router),
- I can open my web browser and type in the URL for my router web interface. This works, I can browse that web page.
- I can not connect to the internet, no URL's outside my wireless network work
- I don't have this trouble with any other devices on my network - my Eee PC and friends machines get to the internet without a problem.
- The i7500 I have is still locked to Bouygues telecom in France, and I don't have a SIM card in the mobile.
- Router is a Linksys WRT100
Do I need an active sim card to use wifi? (EDIT- answer = no)
Is there any way I can check what my gateway address is in Android? (EDIT - answer = can't check it, but can set a gateway when setting a static IP in Wifi setup.)
My wifi keeps dropping in and out. All of the wireless security passwords are correct, but the WIFI tab on the phone keeps saying "scanning", connects and then disconnects. It even does it to unsecure wireless networks.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having an odd issue w/Pete's BB 7.9...
I am able connect via WiFi to home network just fine - connects quickly and I get a proper IP.
However, nothing will connect - email, browser, marketplace, etc...
Everything works fine from my laptop on the same wireless network. Never had any issue w/any guest laptops at my home on the network. I don't have mac address filtering or any other settings like that...am using wpa.
Any ideas? Never seen this happen before...previously I've used my phone on wifi from home it worked, but that's been quite a while, can't remember when/which ROM.
Again - I connect fine to my wireless network, get an IP, but when I try to access anything from my phone it acts like I'm not connected. Go back to 3G and all is fine. Tried going back and forth between wifi and 3g, and it behaves the same way each time...appreciate any help.
Now it's working...weird. Didn't change any setting. I was trying another ROM (that wouldn't even boot for me - Chevy has a new 2.1 w/working auto-brightness, mute, keyboard lock) and after flashing back to 7.9 now wifi is working.
I can connect my PC to the wifi tether system but the internet only worked twice (no idea why). I tried uninstalling/reinstalling several times, tried changing encryption status but nothing seemed to make a difference. If anyone has any thoughts that may help I'd be glad to hear them.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy mom was messing around on her note 2 and I dont know what she did but now everytime we try to open google chrome it automatically opens the youtube app. We can only get past this if we press back enough times to get back to chrome but this happens every time and its really annoying.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to select preferred network operators automatically from device. After I search for it, I found following:
Code:
final int EVENT_AUTO_SELECT_DONE = 300;
Message msg = mHandler.obtainMessage(EVENT_AUTO_SELECT_DONE);
phone.setNetworkSelectionModeAutomatic(msg);
So I need an instance of class "Phone". I tried this:
Code:
String phoneFactoryName = "com.android.internal.telephony.PhoneFactory";
String phoneName = "com.android.internal.telephony.Phone";
Class phoneFactoryClass = Class.forName(phoneFactoryName);
Class phoneClass = Class.forName(phoneName);
Method getDefaultPhone = phoneFactoryClass.getMethod("getDefaultPhone");
Object phoneObject = getDefaultPhone.invoke(null);
But the method "getDefaultPhone" can only called by looper.
Next I tried this:
Code:
String phoneAppName = "com.android.phone.PhoneApp";
Class phoneAppClass = Class.forName(phoneAppName);
Method getInstanceMethod = phoneAppClass.getMethod("getInstance");
Object phoneObject = getInstanceMethod.invoke(null);
But I get a ClassNotFoundException.
I am having an issue where my phone connects fine to my home internet Via a new N-Router, then while using the phone and going through different apps like facebook or android market. I get errors about unable to fetch updates or unable to update page. All the while the WiFi icon is still on in the status bar. It seems that when I turn off the WiFi then back on or power the phone off then back on it work again for a short while. I don't have issues with my laptop or WiFi that use this same router.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen my router is set to WPA the Droidx connects and stays connected. But when I change to WPA2 it keeps connecting and disconnecting every few seconds. This leaves me with a choice of less security for my entire network, or no wifi for the Droidx. I have seen this problem mentioned on the Motorola support page, but I have not heard of any resolution. Does anyone have a fix for this? I am using the new Froyo 2.2 OTA update.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have been looking at the ConnectivityManager class documented at http://developer.android.com/reference/android/net/ConnectivityManage... .
I would like to know if an Android application can open a network connection (socket) on a specified network interface [on a device supporting multiple network interface types WiFi, Cellular, WiMax etc] ? I am looking for the capability for an application to open a socket on a given type of network for example over WiFi network or over 3G Cellular Data network.
If this is possible in Android, how would I code this requirement within the API Framework ? The ConnectivityManager enables an application to learn about available network connections and currently categorises them as either TYPE_WIFI or TYPE_MOBILE.
There is a member function in the ConnectivityManager class called requestRouteToHost(int,int) [url] which "Ensure that a network route exists to deliver traffic to the specified host via the specified network interface. An attempt to add a route that already exists is ignored, but treated as successful." Sounds like this would install an IP routing table entry to reach a given host via a specified network interface type (WiFi or Mobile). After calling this would it be sufficient for an application to open a socket and connect to the desired destination address ?
Or perhaps the application needs to bind() a socket to a local address of a network interface of the desired type (WiFi or Mobile) Or by setting a socket-level socket option of SO_DONTROUTE ?
I have both a nexus 7 as well as an HTC evo. Neither device works with my work open wifi network. The common thread is that they are both android ICS devices. The network is open but requires the user to accept an agreement before use. Both devices connect to the network, but never bring up the web agreement/authorization page and eventually simply time out.
I really need to have wifi at work and will likely sell the devices if I cannot get them working.
lately in my Asus Padfone 2, the wifi keeps turning on automatically without my permission. Everytime I wake the screen from lock screen, I can already see the WiFi indicator is on above, it's driving me nuts I have to turn it back off every once in a while. This only happen lately when I install many apps from Store I can't remember, so I reckon one of those apps is the main cause of this problem. Which in my running apps turns on my WiFi automatically?
Here a list of all my running apps
Settings
musiXmatch
avast! Mobile Security
Clean Master
Facebook
Line
Line
Onavo Count
WhatsApp
Clock Now
CNET

CMClient
Power Saver (Asus stock app)
LogUploader
AudioWizard (Asus stock app)

I wish my phone stops turning on without any notice it drains my battery and my patience.
is there a way to set up my email (not gmail) to only download automatically over wifi? I receive a lot of work emails and it uses data unnecessarily when it downloads on my phone when I am at work. Ideal will be to only download when I change the setting. Don't want to turn of data completely because then all the other apps stop working too (WhatsApp, facebook etc.)
