View 1 RepliesI know some ways to backup and restore sms and apps. But is there any way to backup things like background, position of widgets, shortcuts on the homescreen etc? Sometimes it is a bit annoying when updating eg. ELK every 5 weeks..
View 2 Replies View RelatedI wrote some sh script to my device which has to run for a long period of time. I wanted to run the script on the background so i run the script with "&" but for some reason the script freeze whenever the device is getting into standby mode.I made some testing script (called testcode.sh) which simply count seconds to see what happen
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
i=0
while (); do
sleep 1
i=$((i+1))
echo -e "
It has been $i sec since the script started" done.I run the script from a terminal (./testcode.sh &) and saw the counter start counting, i then put the device to standby mode (short press on the power button) and waited for 10 min. after 10 min i open the device and saw that the counter still counts but the time was 3 min (180 sec).
So i guess the script kept running for 3 min then hang for some reason and resume when the device got off standby mode.Is there a way to make my script keep on running ?
What exactly can keep an app running in the background, regardless of what efforts your take to disable it?
If I don't use an app much and don't want it running, I normally freeze the app. If it is an app I tend to use a bit more frequently, I take other measures such as an app manager that allows me to be extremely precise as to how and when it should run such as on startup, battery level, configuration change, application change, etc. I really don't have the time to do this for every application.
With that said, I'm wondering what other methods, other than freezing and the other mentioned above, I can take to prevent an app from running in the background?
I will give you a perfect example...
There are some third-party apps I have downloaded that I know I will use occasionally. One example is CamScanner. For the life of me, I can't get this app to stop running in the background without extensive efforts mentioned above. No matter what I do, it just pops up again in running applications.
How can I ensure the app will not run in background while not resorting to freezing the app, which will prevent me from quickly accessing it when needed?
Anyone know how to make a custom widget for the desktop like the google search, clock etc?

View 3 Replies View Relatedthis is an issue that I have always noticed but just decided now to create a thread for it as to a question of why Google Maps is running in the background and how can I make it stop? It takes about 5mb of RAM which I care about since I am using a very low memory device, The Motorola Droid 1.
Here's a pic:
how I can make it stop running in the background? It is confirmed that GPS if off and im not signed in to Latitude or anything like that.
Are services like Tasker now safe from being killing if running in the background?
I would prefer running such services in background instead of foreground to save space on the notification bar.
So I was wondering how risky is running services in the background with JB?
if there is any ways to stop running some apps in background (like poweramp) and force it to just run as I manually open it and after closing stop running in background.

I'm using application called SetCPU on my Samsung Galaxy S Plus I9001
When I start it and press the home button to leave it running in background, it shows in Task Manager as active application, but sometimes it will shut itself down after few hours.
Is there a way to set applications to run always in background?
I got my Xperia P more than a month ago and never had this problem. Now even if i kill all processes using the official or a third-party app, a few minutes later a number of apps are running again in the background and killing my battery.
View 2 Replies View RelatedEverytime i put my droid into the desktop charger and then remove it later, all of my desktop icons and widgets on all 3 screens dissapear.
2 questions:
1. is there a way to stop this from happening
2. if not, is there an easier way to fix it besides shutting down the phone and restarting it?
Moto droid, not rooted, have aquarium live wallpaper, beutiful widgets large, no launcher or home applications installed.
I like to develop a product something quite similar to what is shown here in the following link:http://getclicky.com/blog/221/5000-for-an-android-desktop-widget
Could someone provide me with an analysis of what is exactly required to develop a desktop widget for clicky.blog. Please comment and explain in detail.
Every few minutes, a GPS icon pops up in my status bar even though there is no GPS apps running in the background. I installed LBE Privacy, and set GPS access to PROMPT for all applications I saw on the list, including system apps, I even deny it to Google Framerowk, and still it happens. How can I get to the bottom of it?
I am running Cyanogenmod 7.2.
I have a G1, love it, but it has a wimpy battery as many of us know. I have been wondering if widgets, desktop icons and even the choice of wallpaper, or picture that is used for the desktop background make any real difference in battery life. No matter how I use the phone, the display is always the main or at least major component of battery usage.
I read on an android website that desktop widgets do tax the battery and it was also suggested that having all three desktops full of icons also does so. Lastly, I was thinking that a black desktop ( I took a picture of a piece of black paper ) would use the least battery because the screen is not producing any light. Any input on these things ? If it would give appreciably better battery life, I would black out the desktops as I have done and not have any icons or widgets.
Is there an app that will backup and restore your desktop widgets to there original position. I know you can backup/restore your icons with Launcher Pro, Titanium, etc... but they do not restore working widgets. Is the only way to do this through a complete system restore like nandroid?
I would like to be able to restore my desktop with widgets after something like a factory reset or custom ROM install. Is it possible to restore just the desktop/widgets from a nandroid backup? What data would I restore to accomplish that?
I was a little bored so I decided to make this and post it. What do you think? I made everything from scratch (including the Google Logo) except the android in the background. I think it looks good. What do you all think? Of course the original does not have my username all over it, though that was to get people's opinions first before someone jacks it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if I'm not alone in this: I have a rooted Evo 4G LTE running Jelly Bean/Paranoid Android 2.13. I'm running into an issue with running audio apps like Google Play Music and Doggcatcher. Basically sometimes if I'm playing something and I switch to another app, a few moments or minutes later the audio dies and the audio app gets killed. I can tell because when I enter back into Doggcatcher, the loading screen starts up as if it wasn't running before. Is this a case of over aggressive task killing? Is there a way to prevent this at all?
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to set the background image as static so it doesn't span across each desktop?
I'm using Open Home if it makes a difference..
Is there anyway to hide the background on widgets? For example, the htc calender or bookmark widget, I'd like to make the background clear. I've seen this done before on the pics posted here so are they using a certain app or something?
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I was just curious as to what widgets people are running on their eris. I am currently running the stock facebook widget,twidget lite, scoreboard widget, the nexus one news and weather widget and the stock music widget. View 9 Replies View RelatedI just bought Beautiful Widgets 3.0 off of App market and have been trying to add the Beautiful Home Weather widget on my home screen. However, no matter which weather skin I choose, the weather images are running off of the background on the bottom as if the background image is not long enough. I tried a few skins, but they all look the same. Is there an option I need to toggle or something?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI found that Qik has been modified as part of this update and was running in the background trying to sync vmail and other features. I saw it was active when viewing the Running Services list. There were 2 Qik apps running in the background that I had to FC then reopen the Qik program, sign in, go to Menu/Settings and redo some stuff in there.
Even when hitting the Exit button from Qik those 2 services would still run. The only way, I think, to NOT have them running is to completely sign out of your Qik account and leave it that way. If you want to use Qik then you'd have to sign in again each time. But once you do then those synchronizers run in the background even though you exit.
I noticed on both our EVO's that the battery usage changed quite a bit since yesterday's update which had me scouring through all the settings to see what was up. I discovered the Qik stuff as well as the Sprint Zone settings had be reset to all services/notifications 'on' so I had to switch them off as well.
I'm interested in the contact one and the one that shows the Apps running with how much MBs are left.
