General :: Unlockable Bootloaders On Verizon?
Jul 19, 2013what phones are available now on Verizon that come closest to the Nexus experience? I've been installing alternate ROMs since a week after I got my G1, and I'd never consider a phone that couldn't be completely unlocked. Out where I live, though, Verizon is the only option for decent service. Add to that the fact that I'm grandfathered in with unlimited data, and I won't be switching carriers anytime soon.

Aug 4, 2013This is a general question that should be in everyone's mind who might want to root a phone or tablet or any Android or other mobile OS device:
Is this root exploit or bootloader going to be spyware and collect any and all data of mine (login credentials, keylog my every character, account/bank numbers, identity information, use your evil imagination)?
So, I searched this forum for key words like "trust root" "secure root" "security" and found nothing related to this topic.
So, how am I to trust ANY of the root exploits or bootloaders created and posted to this forum for ANY device?
Have any of the developers developed an audit process using firewall rules to ensure that a posted root exploit or bootloader does not attempt to keylog, report captured information to some obscure IP address (thief/hacker's machine of course)?
Do any of these root exploits or bootloaders or custom unofficial builds of entire android (like Cyanogenmod and the 3rd party variants) get Security Audited?
How am I to believe that the whole lot of you making the root exploits and bootloaders are not a big community of identity thieves and financial fraudsters?
Am I just supposed to trust you?
General :: Using Locked Bootloaders To Load Unsigned Kernel
Oct 17, 2012A long time ago, on a 386 far, far away, some people would regularly boot Linux from DOS/Win16/Win32/Win95/etc... using a utility called loadlin. Loadlin would basically grab the system from the short and curlies, and load a target kernel into RAM, and jump directly into, which would effectively be running the kernel in practically the same way as if LILO had loaded it.
Would it be possible to actually make a Linux kernel module which did the same thing? Modules can be loaded at bootup, so it could be configured on a rooted system to load this module, which would effectively jump to a new kernel, throwing the old one out of memory.

Jan 5, 2013It seems there is a general voice search / voice recognition issue with non-english languages. The problem is basically that punctuation is written in plain and not recognized. It seems to affect a number of devices (if not all?) running ICS / JB.
So period will write "period" and not "." .
Same for comma that will end in writing "comma" and not ",".
(this of course in each different Language)
This basically makes the voice recognition totally unusable and useless for anything but English. So far, this issue has been reported with the following languages:
French
German
Spanish
Italian

Jan 10, 2014I am trying to get in to the General Settings page in Gmail on my Hudl to change the "swipe to delete" value, but I cannot find the page. When I go into settings there is a General link but it only shows
- Auto advance
- Message text size
- Ask to show pictures
I have tried different contexts, inbox, recycle bin, unread email, read email, but cannot find this setting, in fact according to the Google support page I am missing a whole range of settings.

May 4, 2012I am using cm7, but this is a general question about replacing files in roms. I have been working on an issue that involves opening the zip file and then edit and replace certain files. I have seen a few posts in the past where it says to replace certain files in a rom, but everytime that I do I get an error after flashing. After flashing and boots to the main screen that asks you to touch the android, I get an error that says "Sorry, the process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly" and the only option is to click on Force Close, but it just keeps coming back. Something is definitely not right with replacing files in a rom, but Im not sure if there's even a correct way. Im using winrar as everyone has mentioned. I have tried using the Fix Permissions option in the Clockwork Recovery also, but no luck. Only option is to reflash. Does the whole rom need to be recompiled?

But i do care about the region they are set in... means when i start MIUI News/Weather (geniewidget.apk) I want to see News from Germany and temperature in Celsius..
When I play "who-becomes-rich" I want Euro for currency! and so on ...

Problem is that as soon as I walk in my house, the signal switches to 3g. I wish that there was a way to force my phone to stay on 4g because even when the signal is very weak it's still 10 times faster than my home internet or 3g. Feb 23, 2014I woke up and my phone wouldn't turn on. So the screen would not turn on, but the green indicator light would flash. Now in not my most brightest of moments, I plugged it into my charger. When I later checked, I felt that the back was warm, so I unplugged it. The phone would still not turn on so I put It in rice. I then ordered a repair kit to open the back to open and apply rice (it came very late), and once this was done it still did not turn. Now the water damage indicator in the sim slot changed color, but I am not actually sure how to proceed. Can I do anything to salvage this phone or should I just get a new one?
