General :: Any Way To Turn Off 3G But Not 4G
Feb 19, 2013
For seven years I've suffered with DSL that's slower than dial-up and 3g that's not much better. About a month ago, while in my back yard, I noticed that my Note2 was indicating 4G LTE. Problem is that as soon as I walk in my house, the signal switches to 3g. I wish that there was a way to force my phone to stay on 4g because even when the signal is very weak it's still 10 times faster than my home internet or 3g. Or is there a way to boost a 4g lte signal?

I want to get rid of the sound that plays when you turn on and turn off the phone, and the video too if possible. But I can't find the file on my phone to delete it.

I am trying to pass location data from my application to the Google Navigation API (No, not the browser). I can pass data to the dialer, and call a phone number successfully, but now wish to use the turn-by-turn navigation as an additional function. I have searched tirelessly through Android documentation, Google Maps API Documentation, and the web without luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction or hint how I can pass the service my data?

Dear Android community, i've a license/legal question regarding asking Google directions to be drawn directly into the MapView. Some of you know that asking google http://maps.google.com/maps/nav will give directions in Json + a Polyline encoded form. What i would like to know is, where is the Terms of Service regarding this functionality? It is for Google internal use or not? There's also the KML which gives similar informations. Please note that it is NOT for real time driving directions but a path to be drawn from a point to another and your position NOT refreshed in real time and of course it is for an app downloadable free of charge.

Frustrating - but apparently the capability is I can customize a route online with Google Maps, save it to my maps and send it to the phone but it sends the static map.Ridiculously, all this power and I can't take those directions from the PC and turn them into turn by turn directions on the phone.

We'll this is a deal breaker for me, after being pretty happy with the RUU update and the speed improvement it brought to the stock music player. When using the turn by turn navigation, every time the voice comes in the player puts itself on pause. After the instruction is over it remains paused instead of resuming. Then I have to manually hit play again to resume playback. This is a big deal while driving since I don't want to be fidgeting with my phone every couple seconds. This was not an issue with 2.1 , since as soon as the turn by turn instruction was gone the music would automatically resume.

How about a speed-trap layer to lay over on the turn-by-turn I've seen some GPS this is a third party add-on, wonder if it might be a layer add-on to Google turn-by-turn eventually?

I'm new to Android and I'm deciding on which phone to get. I believe I want the Fascinate but this issue with Google Maps navigation is an issue since turn-by-turn navigation is a big feature for me. Does Bing Maps also offer turn-by-turn navigation as well? Is it voice assisted? Personally I don't care if it's Bing or Google but I don't want the Verizon one since it will require a monthly fee. As long as Bing Maps offers the same functionality as Google Maps, I'm fine.

I would really like to incorporate turn-by-turn directions to our application, but it appears to be against the TOS. Is there any way to get permission from Google to allow this for our application? I have what looks like one other app allow this interface.

I don't know about anyone else, but I HATE the turn-by-turn directions voice in Google Navigation. I have a Moto Droid and the voice is practically unintelligible. As a die-hard Google devotee,I have faith that they will correct the problem if enough people tell them to. Surprisingly, I was not able to find this suggestion on their product suggestion forum, so I created one.

So I use the task killer...and at the moment say when I kill tasks it'll tell me there is about 200M avaliable memory free...if I use the phone for a day it'll maybe go down to 150M even if I am still killing apps and there is nothing in 'running services'. If i turn off the phone and turn it back on it goes up to 250M. What is running that I can't stop myself to make it go down from the 250M but that I can just eliminate by turning off the phone?

I've had my Droid for about a month and the Google Voice turn by turn naviagation has worked beautifully. Today, when I went to use it, I'm receiving directions...BUT I do not get turn by turn voice directions. The view of the map is from like an airplane, not the "over the shoulder" view like I used to get, and the voice part is totally gone (I've checked the volume and it's not that).I've tried powering the phone down/up, but doesn't help. I've called Verizon but they've told me they don't support this App.

in Virtuous Rom 3.1 the Google Maps turn-by-turn navigation voice doesn't work...instead of speaking the directions, the voice rambles on about XML versions and a random website in a slow-motion voice. I'm shocked that I can't find any information at all about this on XDA or here.Does this happen to anyone else who uses Virtuous Rom 3.1? I tried to contact RMK via XDA PM but he hasn't responded yet, sent last night. I would really like a fix for this, Google maps navigation is fantastic.

I have had my EVO since last Friday. I love this thing. However, there seems I have had 2 instances where my phone spontaneously reboots if I have doing GPS turn by turn directions and talking on the phone at the same time while using a bluetooth headset. I play with very popular apps I downloaded from Market; and I am pretty good about not leaving them running in the background. So, I'm thinking theres a very specific scenario that causes the phone to reboot. I doubt there a hardware defect; as it only happens with the above scenario. I am curious if there are other people who push their phones to do simultaneous hardware features at the same time and cause it to reboot.I guess its possible that there may be a 3rd party app that's silently running in the background which might be the cause; however, no matter what, an app shouldnt have the ability to crash the entire OS.

I just rooted my phone (Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500), and it was fine for a few hours...but now it just wont turn off.
Even when the screen times out.
Even when I press the power button.
It will just stay on no matter what. (Interestingly, long pressing the power button does bring up the power dialogue!)
I did not flash any Custom ROM. I did not even install any recovery! The only tinkering I did was Setting cpu speed using Tasker...

i can not switch off text-to-speech after flashing a JB ROM.
I know this sounds like a noob question and it probably is and I know I can not be the only/first one to have this problem, but searching only fond me people with the same problem without a solution - May be I did not use the right keywords.
What I Have Done:
* flashed BlackCNA 1.1 (by mistake - don't ask ) on my Galaxy Note N7000
* wipe/factory reset
* flashed BlackCNA 2.1 -> Everything worked Fine ( but TTS)
* Selected a Voice in TTS-Settings and downloaded "German" (Just selected and downloaded it!)
What happens
* Text-to-Speech is ALWAYS on in Chrome, Stock Browser and Facebook App
* In Chrome parts of the screen are marked with an orange border (I think it is talkback displaying, what it speaks)
What I tried
* Check if Talkback is on -> it is "decativated"
* Check if there are in-app settings regarding tts -> I did not find any
* Check if there are Profile/Vehicle-Mode Settings -> I did not find any (or they were switched off)

I have a problem with my nexus 7. A couple of days ago the wifi connection simply stopped working. I just could not turn it on. The wifi icon did not get blue, like it should when it's turned on, and it wouldnt even search for available networks.
So, i thought this might be caused by some bug or software problem and decided to do a factory reset on my nexus 7. The problem is, that did not solve the wifi problem and now i can't even use my device anymore, as it requires a connection for setup.
Does that mean that the problem is caused by hardware malfunction? I'm not very experienced with all the android hacking or installing a CFW, or whatever.

I just recently got myself a Samsung S 3. I am very happy with it. The only complaint I have is the reception. I found out it's because it's trying to go 4G and sometimes it does not get good reception. I later found an article that Sprint working on their 3G and 4G networks so that probably explain another reason why I don't get good reception.
So my question is, is there a way to force the phone to use only 3G? I also like the option to go back to 4G when I am in a good reception area.

I switched to an HTC One last week from my iPhone and I'm starting to regret it.
I was using my phone all day yesterday and it was fine. THen before bed I picked it up and noticed that the home and back button were flashing and then it stopped. I clicked the lock button but the screen didn't respond. I plugged it into the wall and my laptop and nothing happened, the red light doesn't even come on.
I've tried holding the power button down and the volume button down for over 30 seconds and nothing happens. I really need my phone for work and school and nothing is working for me.
