I'm a proud user of a Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman and it's currently running on Hybrom v17 and Rage Kernel, but it's still signed as Android 2.3.4. I searched on the internet and it seems that people from my country, with the same phone model and operator are getting the official update... But I still don't have it in my PC Companion... Do I have to return to the stock version of Gingerbread to get the update? If so, do I have to change the kernel back to stock too?

I love CM7. I run it on my Droid Incredible and I wouldn't want to run any other ROM, but since I have the paid versions of both ADW and Launcher Pro I don't have any need for the free version of ADW that comes packed with CM7. I found a mod that replaces ADW with the default Gingerbread launcher, and I've found that I prefer the stock launcher over any of the replacements I've tried. It's fast, minimal, and it just works. My only problem is that launcher2 only has five home screens, and I want seven. A Google search brought me to a version of the stock launcher with seven home screens, and I was able to install it on the latest CM7 nightly, but whenever I pressed the phone icon I got an error message telling me that "this application is not installed on your phone". I tried the launcher on both OMGB and OMFGB with the same results. Is there a version of the stock Gingerbread launcher out there that I can use on CM7 that has seven home screens and a working phone shortcut?

I'm compiling my own ROM project from source, and I wonder if I can remove the home "icon" on the app drawer for the stock gingerbread launcher2.apk? From source that is.
For example the latest LauncherPro have the option for removing/hiding the home icon on the app drawer, I pretty much want to do the same basically on the default Gingerbread Launcher.

what phones are available now on Verizon that come closest to the Nexus experience? I've been installing alternate ROMs since a week after I got my G1, and I'd never consider a phone that couldn't be completely unlocked. Out where I live, though, Verizon is the only option for decent service. Add to that the fact that I'm grandfathered in with unlimited data, and I won't be switching carriers anytime soon.

This is a general question that should be in everyone's mind who might want to root a phone or tablet or any Android or other mobile OS device:
Is this root exploit or bootloader going to be spyware and collect any and all data of mine (login credentials, keylog my every character, account/bank numbers, identity information, use your evil imagination)?
So, I searched this forum for key words like "trust root" "secure root" "security" and found nothing related to this topic.
So, how am I to trust ANY of the root exploits or bootloaders created and posted to this forum for ANY device?
Have any of the developers developed an audit process using firewall rules to ensure that a posted root exploit or bootloader does not attempt to keylog, report captured information to some obscure IP address (thief/hacker's machine of course)?
Do any of these root exploits or bootloaders or custom unofficial builds of entire android (like Cyanogenmod and the 3rd party variants) get Security Audited?
How am I to believe that the whole lot of you making the root exploits and bootloaders are not a big community of identity thieves and financial fraudsters?
Am I just supposed to trust you?

A long time ago, on a 386 far, far away, some people would regularly boot Linux from DOS/Win16/Win32/Win95/etc... using a utility called loadlin. Loadlin would basically grab the system from the short and curlies, and load a target kernel into RAM, and jump directly into, which would effectively be running the kernel in practically the same way as if LILO had loaded it.
Would it be possible to actually make a Linux kernel module which did the same thing? Modules can be loaded at bootup, so it could be configured on a rooted system to load this module, which would effectively jump to a new kernel, throwing the old one out of memory.

Interesting article, wonder if it gives the "owner" of the smart phone ownership at all? It is written for the i phone, but may open doors across the board. I would love to see someone take Motorola to town. New U.S. rules allow for unapproved i Phone apps - USA TODAY.com

Google brought more language support to Android with Gingerbread. How do I use it? the only indication of Arabic support is that, when I get a text message in Arabic, it shows the letters in Arabic, but not connected to each other the way they should be.What I want is to make everything Arabic, not just messages received in Arabic.

Well I am working on beagleboard-xm project, where I am supposed to upgrade the current Android version to ICS. The thing is, I have to keep the current kernel , because it is customized for some applications that run on that board. It is not me that compiled that kernel...
Is it even possible to keep the "old" kernel and upgrade to ICS? Can it be done in any way? Or a new kernel with new patches has to be installed...?

I've have recently upgraded my Galaxy S from Darky Rom v10.2 to Cyanogen Mod 9 (ICS).. Absolutely EVERYTHING is better...
Except....
The contacts application (both dialer and 'people') that comes with ICS is not as good as the Gingerbread versions. Obviously the ICS versions look prettier but with the older versions you could:
- swype left on a contact to message (brilliant)
- swype right on a contact to call (brilliant)
- easily access the contacts app from within the dialer via the tabs at the top
My question is... is it possible to use the gingerbread versions of the contacts and dialer apps on ICS... if so, HOW?

So i recently did a manual install of ICS onto my wind mobile nexus S.
ICS has been absolutely terrible on the phone, everything lags (2 seconds or more for a response after tapping on any icon/button etc...)
the already short battery life has been cut in half (2.5 hours to go from 100 - 50% with minimal useage)
So i want to revert to gingerbread. Is it possible to do without rooting my phone? as i plan on selling it, and i want it to be as "Stock" as possible.
