Motorola Droid X :: Using Backups With Bootstrap

Aug 26, 2010

I have no problem restoring from backups, but has anyone successfully done this and not had the incorrect password with motoblur error? If so, how? I can't for the life of me do a backup and not get that error so it's kind of making backups pointless right now since we need communication with blur for the update service to get the OTA froyo update.

Motorola Droid X :: New To Root - Bootstrap - Rom Manager

Aug 31, 2010

I have searched and can't seem to find the answers I am looking for so I figured I might make a post to get them all answered together, hopefully. So I have the leaked 2.2, just rooted, and am trying to figure out how to back it up. I installed bootstrap and Rom Manager, but don't really understand what they do or how to use them.

Bootstrap:
1. I went into bootstrap and hit the Bootstrap recovery button. A screen pops up that says success. What does this mean?

2. I hit the Reboot Recovery and it popped me into recovery mode where I was able to make a backup of rom and data, is that all there is to it or what?

Rom Manager:
1. I opened Rom Manager and installed the program it says I need to do a backup, but when I hit "Backup Current Rom", it reboots and does nothing. When I get back it gives me an error message that says it failed. Any ideas on this?

2. What exactly does Rom Manager do in the first place?

Other questions:
1. Which way is the best way to create a backup?
2. I hear about flashing to stock, or to do other things, what exactly does this mean? Do I lose my whole layout such as widgets? I keep a lot of sticky notes with information I would hate to lose, is there a way to keep them backed up?
3. When you do flash, and assuming that you lose all information other than what is on the sd card, can you restore just the data you have backed up from a different Rom? Example: I have 2.2 now, if I flashed to 2.1, can I restore just the data I have saved from 2.2 back to 2.1?
4. What is Deodex exactly? Again, sorry for the newb questions, but before I go any further than I am, I would enjoy knowing more than I do about this stuff.

Motorola Droid X :: Copy Of Clockwork Bootstrap

Oct 29, 2010

Does anyone know how to make a copy of my clockworkmod bootstrap app into an .apk that I can put on my sdcard? When I keep installing new themes, and flashing back to .sbf, the most annoying part is signing back in to my phone to have to download the bootstrap then wipe my phone again. I am by NO MEANS trying to cheat the developer out of profits he makes selling this app, just trying to more "effectively" use the copy I paid for.

Motorola Droid X :: Install Bootstrap Application

Oct 24, 2010

Ive been real resilient against rooting. In fact i just recently dl'd launcher pro plus (which i absolutely love). No particular reason aginst rooting other than i have a knack for screwing things up. Comin from an iphone, this is all new to me. Basically I love my setup now with lpp and my custom wallpaper and custom icons. I really really want a black status bar though. whats the easiest way to do that (and eventually other things, but for now just the bar, and a few root apps). I understand the simpleoneclick root process and will be doing that later. then i need to install bootstrap app? then deodex- easiest way is the 928droid black glass from what i understand. and follow the all-in-one guide post and poof im done? questions: will this change all my icons, wallpaper, or affect lpp in any way (if so, how can i fix it back). Is the 928 a rom (and what exactly does that mean)? it changes the sliders and everything? does it automatically include a black status bar (with white text etc...) What do i need to do to get JUST a black status bar. how would i go from the 928 to a different rom? .....

I have downloaded Droid X bootstrap and ROM Manager so far not really sure where to download Clockwork (if this is even a different app than what I have).Does a tutorial on how to use these things exist anywhere? I did a search on this forum, but it seems like everything is for moderately experienced users.

Motorola Droid :: Backups And Contacts

Jun 30, 2010

So, I use Clockwork Recovery and all things associated with ROM Manager and Cyanogen Mod.I have lost all of my contacts. I perform full backups prior to installing a new version of CM.Can I recover my contacts and only my contacts? And before anyone reminds me: yes, I know about Google Sync. There's a problem with that: my gmail account was hijacked. I was able to recover it, and everything is now thoroughly locked down with insane passwords. But I just discovered: all my contacts on my phone, at least the majority of them, have disappeared. And worse, in the Contacts area of Gmail, there are ZERO contacts. My contacts got completely wiped! So.. kind of in a pickle, where Sync has made things worse by syncing one way, and not the other way! It forced the contacts off my phone, instead of uploading the contacts on my phone to Google! What's up with that?

Motorola Droid :: ROM Manager Not Work / No Backups

Jun 23, 2010

So I followed droid-life.com instructions on rooting and installing Froyo FRF57. I'm currently running Froyo but thought it would be nice to upgrade my ROM to Jrummy Kangerade 1.0. So I paid for the premium Rom Manager and have tried doing the backup Rom feature. It reboots my phone and does nothing. No backups appear in Rom manager.

Okay, so I said forget it. I'll just install the ROM. So it goes through the whole process and says it needs to reboot and then nothing happens. It doesn't reboot at all. I try manually rebooting and it doesn't do anything. Is there a trick to make this software start working?

Motorola Droid :: ClockworkMod/ROM Manager - Backups Don't Work

Nov 6, 2010

I know similar topics regarding ClockworkMod/ROM Manager have been discussed, but I'm having a new issue and can't seem to find any info about it. Here's my issue: My backups don't work. When I try to flash one I'm being told there is an "MD5 mismatch." This happens when I try to restore any of my backups - including one I just made about an hour ago. I'm in the middle of flashing the newest Liquid Frozen Yogurt ROM and I goofed while restoring some things. I wanted to go back to v1.71 and start over, but I'm getting that error message. Perhaps not coincidentally, I have been unable to make any backups straight from ROM Manager. Nothing would happen. It isn't like the issues many of us have had in the past where it would appear to be booting into recovery and then just reboot. This time nothing happens at all. So my most recent backup was made by manually booting into recovery and going from there. I'm a little concerned. Any thoughts?

When I was having the issue using ROM Manager to make backups, I tried the old trick of flashing SPRecovery and then re-flashing ClockworkMod. Still didn't do anything.

Motorola Droid :: Do You Have To Turn Off Auto Syncing And Backups?

Jan 2, 2010

I am thinking of rooting to upgrade to 2.1 but have some questions I have not seen here yet. I did try searching...but as each phone is different and the Droid root is so new I could not find these questions anywhere.I have seen the term brick thrown about quite a bit here. When you talk of a risk of bricking the phone are we talking the true sense, as in the phone will be as useful as? Or are we talking the more recent and inacurate type of brick...where things dont work, but you can still access the phone and with help can reformat?Lets say I root and insall Flan, and decide I am not happy with it. How easy is it to unroot? Can I just do a factory reset?

Do you have to turn off auto syncing and backups? Can I back up my phone and program settings so that if I can undo the root.I can restore my Droid to current configuration without a lot of work?

Android : Bootstrap JUnit 4 As Test Runner?

Aug 16, 2010

As the first step of the port of my existing Java swing application to Android, I'd like to get the non-UI logic unit tests running on the Android device. The unit tests are written against JUnit 4. It looks like Android 2.2 comes with JUnit 3 as the default. Is there an easy way (or any way) to bootstrap JUnit 4 as the test runner?

I am using IDEA as my dev environment, but it doesn't appear there's any settings that will allow me to specify JUnit 4.

Android :: A Few Data Backups ?

Jun 30, 2010

Phone: nexus one

Love android....and love n1, but got a few issues/?'s

1) are my phones settings saved to my Gmail acct?

In SETTINGS>PRIVATE I have it set to "backup my settings".....I'm assuming this is to my Gmail account?

But after my one and only hard reset, all of my settings carried over except my text message settings.

In MESSAGING>SETTINGS>STORAGE SETTINGS I have it set to no limit to the amount of texts to save. I have one really important thread I don't want to lose. But after the hard reset, it went back to the factory default of only keeping 200. So I lost about 2 months of texts when I carried on as if the message storage settings were then same as before the hard reset.

After hard reset, I didn't lose the thread entirely. Just everything over the 200 limit. Oh well....I'm not getting em back, but I'd like to fully understand where I went wrong in my understanding of android/Google/gmail.

2) since i didnt lose the thread entirely, does this mean my texts are saved/backed up to my Gmail account? If not, where are they backed up if at all?

I'm beginning to think that this is the way it works (please correct me where I'm wrong):

- Gmail acct: saves most android phone settings, app history, contacts, email threads
- SD card: app data, pic & music data
- Phone flash memory: text threads & settings, internet bookmarks, apps
- Sim card: ?

3) Couple things....now moving forward:

Bought a new SIM card so I could get a new number/same phone.
- I want to put in new SIM
- do a hard reset
- login to my gmail
- keep my old internet bookmarks
- keep my old text threads from my old number
- keep my old settings
- re-download my old apps if necessary

How will a new SIM affect my situation/intentions?
