General :: Setting SMS Notifications On Galaxy S3

Problem setting SMS Notifications. When I try to "Select ringtone" all I see are the folders in my sdcard0. I believe this is because when I saw the intial screen it had two choices: File Explorer and Media Storage. I mistakenly selected File Explorer and selected "Always." How can I get back to Media Storage as my default for selecting ringtones?

Samsung double time and Motorola.
How do we set a text message ringtone? When we text, all we get is a goofy little chime and the phones vibrate. I'll never hear that thing in my purse.I went to settings>notifications and set a soundbite I want to use after transferring it to the media>notifications folder, and when I get e-mails, it worked. But not for texting.
Also, what forum do I use for the double time? What is rooting, and do we need to do it? We got the phones through AT&T and they work fine so far. Also, we have wifi at home- does that still count against our 3g plan when we're using that to access the market while trying to figure this out?

I'm doing it by going to chrome>google>images>wallpaper>save image>gallery>set as. But problem is it always seems to be low quality when I do it that way. The wallpapers aren't low quality it's 1920x1200. When I open them in images it always appears small, so I think I'm actually saving that small image.

I just got my Galaxy Note 2 replaced under insurance. I am trying to get functionality back that I had before.
I used to be able to say something like: "Remind me to call so-and-so tomorrow at 1pm".
And it would work flawlessly and alert me at that time. How I get this functionality back.
Does it have something to do with Samsung's calendar app? It works find for alarms, but it also used to utilize the calendar.

Only had my phone a day or so and am receiving email and whatsapp notifications but nothing for facebook and twitter. Have uninstalled/reinstalled, rebooted my phone, ensured that the notifications box is ticked in the application manager and in apps themselves.

I have just switched from an iphone to a galaxy and am still working out all the tricks on the s3. One thing i seem to be having a problem with is the pop up notifications. what i would like is to have the phone wake up and show the email notifications on the lockscreen like the iphone does. I have notifications turned on for both gmail and the email app as well as facebook but the only time this works is with the messages.

My phone only displays notifications from certain apps (FB Messenger, Snapchat, Tinder, maybe a few others) when it is connected to wifi. When I am not connected to wifi, I can still use these apps and send/receive messages, but when I get home and connect to wifi again I receive all the notifications I should have gotten earlier in the day. Email, SMS, WhatsApp, and BBM all deliver notifications just fine over the mobile network.
Potentially relevant info...
- Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini
- Android version 4.2.2
- sync and mobile data are enabled
- "restrict background data" is NOT enabled for the affected apps
- connected to Koodo (Telus) network in Canada

So on my Galaxy s4 I know how to set up a custom sms/mms tone for individual contacts. HOWEVER they are always the same tones listed. When I create or download any notification sound it won't show up on the list when I try to make it a custom but it will show for my default list. Apparently I did it somehow because one of my notification tones I created appeared on the list but that's it. How to add to that list?

I recently just switched from my iphone to a galaxy s4. I love it except for how I receive notifications. Is there anyway to receive notifications on the lock screen like you would for an iphone? All I see on my lock screen is text messages, I don't receive any notifications from instagram, games, etc..

Lately I have realized that at home I don't get notifications from most of my apps. I have notifications turned on and I do get them pushed to me when I go to other places with high-speed internet. The internet at home isn't blazing fast but isn't slow at 13 Mbps. I don't get notifications for most games and some other apps, like hangouts, where I could end up missing out on a conversation because I never got the notification. I get notifications about new emails and updates from the Play Store but that's about it. Is there something I can try or do to fix this problem and get my notifications?

I have a sprint galaxy s3 and I'm having issues with words with friends. anytime i have a move to play, it displays it as an ongoing notification in the drop down box. i have never had issues until i updated to jellybean. it is getting annoying because i cant clear it and i notice a huge drain on my battery.
the weird thing about this is that my wife has the same phone with the same version of WWF and updated to jellybean the same way, but her notifications are not ongoing and can be cleared. there is no way to change this in the application manager in device settings or physical settings with WWF. all i can do is turn the notifications on or off. i have cleared data, force stopped it, uninstalled it, installed previous versions, and even rooted my s3 and am running synergy rom, but still no luck.

I'm looking for an app that sets specific actions (like changing ringtones, volume of notifications, e-mail notifies on/off) according to the SSID/availability of WiFi networks nearby. Pretty much like "locale" does for position, but tied to WiFi availability. The idea is that I can turn off e-mail alarms/notifies when I'm at home/work where I have a PC anyway (WiFi of home/work is detected) while automatically having them turned on when I leave the house (no wifi anymore).

I wasn't sure where to post this so I figured I'd just throw it in the general forum and see how it went. Does anyone else get kind of irritated by the way you have to set the volume/vibrate setting for notifications? I want ONE control that will put the entire phone on either silent, vibrate or ring. For some reason I can't choose a master sound profile, I have choices for each individual messaging app.. I really just don't get it, I'm almost dumbfounded by how insanely involved it is to just get a vibrate notification or none at all. Granted I have had and INC since the week it launched and love this phone, I just don't get it. Am I missing something? I put my phone on VIBRATE and NOTHING VIBRATES unless in the program's settings I have vibrate checked, which means it will vibrate all the time, in vibrate mode, silent, doesn't matter. Is there any way to make it so whatever setting I have my phone volume set too or what i would consider to be the "master" volume is what my notifications will do? I realize this is a bit of a rant but I'm kind of flustered over this. I don't understand why the volume control doesn't just control everything collectively. A good example would be, if my phone is on vibrate and someone tries to TikL me... I don't want the sound to come through, which it did while I was in a meeting... not good. Are all android OS phones like this or just HTC? (I will try and explain myself better and maybe edit this post, i just needed to blow off some steam because I feel this is a rube golberg way of setting sound profiles..

Does anyone know where the value for "Use incoming call volume for notifications" is stored? This is a checkbox found in the Ringer Volume settings that allows you to set a separate notification volume and incoming call volume. I would like to programatically toggle the value, but I can't figure out where it's stored. I looked at Context.AudioManager, I see methods for controlling the notification volume, but I can't find a setting for separating notification volume from incoming call volume.

I bought my Galaxy recently. It happened I believe while using a couple of apps I downloaded called :
TOGGLE DATA and APNdroid. I wanted to use the function that would allow me to have an icon to turn on and off my 3G network. But something happened, and now I cant seem to know where to turn on 3G internet. WiFi still works fine but I cant seem to find where to get 3G activated? I have since deleted those 2 apps for the time being until I get my connection back.

I am looking for a software solution to get mono sound into my earphone. (I am deaf in one ear and thus missing one channel) I could buy a stereo->mono plug or I could buy this 'Super BT Mono Pro' app for $ 6,-. But shouldn't this be a normal setting in such a hightech Android phone? Or an app setting like the VLC desktop player has a mono option. The Super BT Mono Pro app shows it is possible, but I wan't to do it myself. Is it a setting in de Service Mode Menu or will it be an new option in Android 3.0?

Just got this badass i9000 and loving it! I am Using 02, and before on my old ericson, you could do setup a template with *0# at the begining of every message to do a Delivery Report (lets you know that the recipient got the text by texting you back automatically) so everytime you wrote a new msg you could use that template with one click... Is this possible to tag every outgoing SMS with *0# automatically or setup templates? Otherwise how using 02 can I get a delivery report (normal setting for delivery report dont work for 02)

I'm using a Galaxy S phone (Epic 4G) and I have the following problem.I created a shortcut to a contact on the Home Screen like this:
- from the home screen, menu->add->shortcut->contact
- contact manager comes up; select contact
- the icon appears on the home screen.
Then when I tap the shortcut, it pops up a menu (call/info/message/email icons). Tapping the "call" icon displays all the available phone #s for that contact. However, I used "Mark as default" to set a default number for that contact, and now it dials that number right away instead of giving me the choice of numbers. I want to UNDO this, and clear the default number setting but I cannot figure out how to do it!

I am sure there must be a simple answer but I can't seem to find it! I got my Samsung Galaxy Portal yesterday and when I get a new text it makes a sound but I don't get a display on my screen. So if I miss the sound, or it is on silent, I have to actually go into the messages to see if there is a new one. Is there a way I can get new messages to display on my screen?

Anyone have any solutions?

I have a Virgin Mobile Galaxy S3 that just got the 4.4 update this morning. Afterwards it had to redownload/update nearly every app on the device as well as all my SNES and Playsation ROMs which I though was odd.
Now all the notifications for thos downloads will not go away. I've cleared them all at once, I've cleared them all individually. When I turn the screen off and then turn it back on an dunlock the phone all those notifications are back in the notification bar.

I was wandering if anybody could help me with the email notification problem im currently having. Iphones and blackberrys all give you a notification when you receive a new email or a new facebook message. The galaxy s does nothing when you receive a new mail. In settings you can select a ringtone, set it to vibrate when you receive a message. But nothing happens. The only way to find out if there any new messages is by clicking on the email app ( in which i am using hotmail).
