Is it possible to get the old functionality of the Gmail app back? I can't stand this new way of doing things.I don't *want* "Primary", "Social", "Promotions", "Updates", etc. I want all of my messages together.

This is my first android device and i'm loving it... but one thing that irks me is the use, or lack thereof, of the back button.
As I am navigating menus and options in the Settings, I cannot simply go back one menu using the back key. For example, if I go to Settings->Battery Manager->Battery Profile Options and want to go back to the Settings screen, I cannot.
Pushing the back button does nothing and I can only go back to the Settings menu by going Home, then re-entering.
Another quirk regarding the back button is when reading emails. Using a regular email account such as Hotmail, I cannot simply read an email and go back to the inbox using the button.
It makes navigating the phone very tedious.
Any way that you can make the back button in the browser retain the same function that it normally would - IE taking you back to the last program you were in. I hate how it takes you back a page instead - I mean the Browser's back button is there for a reason, right?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI don't use gmail app, I use normal email app like normal people who does not want to use 3 different email apps for 3 different accounts, so when I get an e-mail in Gmail and I delete it, it keeps coming back as new e-mail. When I open it it shows for a few seconds and then disappears, then new email count disappears. After I go back to using the phone new email appears again, then the same cycle..
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I had a crackberry and had it paired with my Bluetooth on my car I could hit a button on the module in my car and it would launch voice dialing on the berry. With an android phone it doesn't. I am wondering if there was a way or an app that could monitor for the button or give me the same Bluetooth config of the berry so I could gain that back.
I love hands free dialing and I've tried apps like vlingo but they seem too unusuable still.

i'm searching for an E-Mail widget with special functionality.
Is there a widget which can browse through E-Mail folders and Subfolders and show me the E-Mails inside the Folder? Like a normal App but as Widget?
Or even better: is there a widget, which list all Folders with unread E-Mails and when i click it it will open the Folder and list the E-Mails inside the Widget?
I put chrome in system/app in my rom and I got problem to start chrome. it says missing critical functionality.
I get FC with go keyboard when putting it in system/app.
Everything goes find after I put them in data/app.
Adding "floating window" to the long press context window of an app icon and/or a system setting for double clicking the app icon to open in a floating window. I don't Dev. This is a freebie. Would be a cool PA/CM/AOKP option.

I am more than a little cofused regarding the functionality of Google store/Market after root of an android device. I have read seemingly cotradictory posts, some say there is no problem some give work arounds involving Roms. A newer post seems to indicate Google has done something that only alows Chinese android devices to use Market after rooting. Which is true? Do all devices even act the same?
I have an Archos that needed a fix to get it at all but I had not heard that Market didn't work after root until a friend mentioned it a couple of days ago. Was this something Google did with intent?

I have a rooted LG Optimus L1 ii, running the stock 4.1 ROM that came with it, from which I uninstalled the stock messaging app after installing Hangouts. As you might have guessed I was unaware that the stock messaging app contains the basic messaging capabilities and all other apps rely on this, so now I'm trying to somehow regain the ability to send and receive SMS.
I have tried installing Handcent, GoSMS, and an app called "Android 4.1 JB Messaging SMS", which claims to be the stock messaging app for JellyBean, all of it to no avail.
Therefore my question is, on a very fundamental level, what are the parts of the Android OS that are required for SMS and that I evidently destroyed? Can I get "generic" stock versions of the necessary apks or do they have to be specific to my phone model?
If I write an app, is it possible to to override the default functionality of the hardware power button?

Sorry ahead of time for the long post. Here's the deal. My wife got the update, but hasn't installed it yet, because she forgot her Gmail password which all of her contacts are synced through. We tried reseting it, but because the Verizion rep set up her account on her phone, he didn't set up a recovery email or secret question. We've tried to get Google to reset it, but it's been over a week, and they are still giving us the runaround.Does anyone know an app or some other way to export Gmail contacts on the Eris in 1.5 preferably to .csv format? Even if we could just save them to the phone instead of using Gmail, that would be a start. We really don't want to have to reenter all of them by hand.
View 3 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine had his gmail account compromised by those friendly Nigerians who claimed he'd been mugged needed money etc. Fortunately no one fell for it.HOWEVER the friendly Nigerians, having used his gmail to get into his facebook changed his password to both gmail and facebook, then deleted ALL his contacts, and all his email sent and received etc. One assumes that this is to ensure he couldn't send out an 'urk! ignore ignore' email.my life is excessively dependent on my emails and online contacts... he was extremely peeved - I'd have been devastated. I really don't want to have to link it all again if I lose my phone or need to do a factory reset. Is there some way of exporting all the data now? But I noticed that if I change a contact on the Droid the changes are NOT synced back to Gmail.
At the moment if I look on the Droid for Contacts/Accounts/ me@gmail.com, I see Sync is ON, Calendar is synced up to present time, Mail is synced up to present, but Contacts are synced until 2. December only!
The sync symbol appears at Contacts, but the date and time isn't changing, it stays at 2. December.
why my S4 is deleting all my contacts from it. I have my contacts synced with my gmail contacts and this has been the case for years. I had a Samsung Infuse before this and have never had a problem. I've had the S4 for about 3 weeks now and this hasn't happened until yesterday. And since yesterday it has happened 3x's. At first I thought it was a Trulia app (realestate app) that I was using to try to call some realtors. I'm not sure if it was a coincidence but the first 2 times I was on the app and my contacts disappeared. How I recovered them was through the contacts recovery feature on Gmail. I would be SOL if I were out and needed to call someone on my contacts list immediately and without access to my laptop.

View 10 Replies View RelatedSo Ive been messing with my contacts and exported them to Gmail where I edited them.I now want those contacts back on my phone as google contacts but don't know how to do it.In the people setting I currently have all my contacts saved as 'phone' but there are some errors. The ones Ive edited on Gmail have all the errors fixed.I have no contacts as 'google' in the people setting.Ive tried syncing with google (with contacts selected) but nothing came through. Could this be because I still had the contacts open in Gmail on my laptop ?I also tried selecting export from Gmail which created a CSV (or similar !) file, however this file was only a few bytes in size and when I saved it on the SD card and tried to import in people there was nothing on it ?So all I want to do is get the correct contacts from Gmail onto the people app on the Desire under 'google' contacts.I feel its something simple that im not doing right.

I have my work email set up but one thing i haven't found the ability to do is to perform a search for my emails. On my blackberry I was able to search by subject, person's name and read/unread and i was looking to do the same thing but i have not found where i can do that or an app that will assist me with this.

I also don't know where to find any documentation regarding how to make my apps compatible with this feature. People have told me my apps cannot be moved to the SD card. My mind is also telling me that this is a really bad idea for paid apps that don't have license protection of any kind. Has anyone had any experience with this, know of any documentation, or have any tips regarding what would stop an app from being compatible with this feature?
