General :: Email Widget With Advanced Functionality?
Dec 22, 2013
i'm searching for an E-Mail widget with special functionality.
Is there a widget which can browse through E-Mail folders and Subfolders and show me the E-Mails inside the Folder? Like a normal App but as Widget?
Or even better: is there a widget, which list all Folders with unread E-Mails and when i click it it will open the Folder and list the E-Mails inside the Widget?

I come from using a blackberry and am now using the samsun fascinate. I have my work email set up but one thing i haven't found the ability to do is to perform a search for my emails. On my blackberry I was able to search by subject, person's name and read/unread and i was looking to do the same thing but i have not found where i can do that or an app that will assist me with this.

How to bring up the Advanced settings tab for email? I found it on the Motorola Droid (which I now hate) but can't seem to find it on the Eris. I'm trying to leave the msgs on the server but download them to the phone. The iTouch, Saga, blackberry and Droid all had this page giving you this option.

I have an HTC Hero from Sprint in the US and was curious about the how the Stocks HTC widget scrolls text like a ticker. It is only the 4x1 sized widget that scrolls quotes. As far as I know, homescreen widgets can only use RemoteViews for the layout, which is limited to the following layouts and widgets (from http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/appwidgets/index.html#Creat...
* AbsoluteLayout * FrameLayout * LinearLayout * RelativeLayout * AnalogClock * Button * Chronometer * ImageButton * ImageView * ProgressBar * TextView
Descendants of these classes are not supported.
I know that this could be done in an app with android.widget.scroller, but that can't be used in a homescreen widget. Would this functionality be specific to the Sense UI homescreen capabilities? I guess, my main question is if this can be replicated for a standard Android widget and if so how.

I just FR my Incredible to try to improve the battery life, and the battery widget I used to have by HTC Corporation is no longer in the Market! Does anyone else have suggestions for the best widget they've found? I liked the HTC widget because you could see more details when you clicked the icon as well as the relatively small icon size. Also, is it really better to not install Advanced Task Killer??

Email Services I use - Google Apps and FastMail.FM. I use Google Apps for Email Standard (Free) Edition. Google Apps Standard Edition helps groups build communities - Google Apps Standard Edition:
* Google Mail with my own domain
* Google Talk with my own domain
Google Apps account also includes:
* Calendar
* Docs
* Contacts
The Primary Google Account has necessary features not offered in Google Apps:
* Google Voice
* Google Reader
* Blogger
* Notebook
* Finance
Unfortunately, Google does not allow the above properties to be including in Google Apps accounts at this time. Therefore, I'm continuously logged into two Google Accounts:
1) Google Apps
2) Google Account
When on the web, Android, etc., I can be logged into both the Google Account and Google Apps simultaneously - two separate gateways that do not interfere with one another. This is also nice because I use Google Voice to place calls as well as sending SMS messages.
Fastmail Account:
I also use Fastmail.FM. Here's a recent article about Fastmail with an interview with Jeremy Howard, one of the Fastmail founders. Here are a few of the reasons why I use Fastmail (enhanced account)
* Virtual Domain Management - MX Mail Servers
* Aliases - Subdomain alias features
* Compose with Personalities Management (alternate sending From: Headers)
* File Storage / Websites
* Advanced Sieve Filtering
* Alternate Logins - One Time Passwords (OTP)
Using these Services on Android
In Google Apps Mail/Gmail (on the web) I have a drop-down menu in the From: header to send from alternate email addresses. When using the Gmail App on Android or through the browser, there is no drop-down menu or option to send from an alternate email address. I've been having the same issue on the iPod Touch (or iPhone) through the Safari browser as there is also no drop-down menu or option to send from an alternate email address. Using the mobile-based Fastmail.fm, I find that this works very well on the Android browser. Fastmail.fm is the only web-mobile email service I've found that allows one to take use the drop-down menu at the From: header to select an alternate email address.
I find it odd that Gmail has a similar From: header drop-down menu on the standard web, but not on mobile devices. Hence, when I need to choose a specific header to send from and I'm on my Android device, I use Fastmail via the mobile browser. The only downside of Fastmail via the mobile browser is there is no autofill like on the Gmail App and Gmail mobile site. I have to "add from the address book" which involves extra steps. However, I have put in a request for this on the Fastmail forum.
Mobile Email Client - IMAP
Of course, all of these services (Gmail, Google Apps, Fastmail) offer IMAP and we can use the mobile email client as a viable alternative. It should be noted, however, that the email clients do not offer the option modify the default From: sending address. I really wish that Android would offer a way to include the standard From: drop-down menu within the Gmail App and on the Gmail mobile web browser.
I have placed a request here in the "Application Requests" forum:
Gmail App, or Mail App, that offers a From: drop-down menu.

I have a class that extends AppWidgetProvider that provides the content for my widget. This is a clock widget so I want to make sure that buildUpdate() is invoked exactly on the minute, every minute. Android clock widget: how do I invoke buildUpdate() every minute (a.k.a. sychronize with clock)? How can I add this functionality?

I know this has most likely been discussed many times. But I am looking for a decent email widget.
At the moment I am using the default htc email widget, however when ever I read an email from my gmail account it doesnt update the read status so it still shows as unread.
I would like one that would update the read status and possible the support for unified inbox so I can see new mail from hotmail account and gmail.

There have been various images of Android devices that have been greatly customized that look nothing like the original stock Android. How do people make such advanced customization. How can I try to do this on my Motorola Defy with CM9? What apps on Android and programs on the computer can work with this? I personally have a Ubuntu computer but can access a Windows one if needed.

When I had a crackberry and had it paired with my Bluetooth on my car I could hit a button on the module in my car and it would launch voice dialing on the berry. With an android phone it doesn't. I am wondering if there was a way or an app that could monitor for the button or give me the same Bluetooth config of the berry so I could gain that back.
I love hands free dialing and I've tried apps like vlingo but they seem too unusuable still.

I am more than a little cofused regarding the functionality of Google store/Market after root of an android device. I have read seemingly cotradictory posts, some say there is no problem some give work arounds involving Roms. A newer post seems to indicate Google has done something that only alows Chinese android devices to use Market after rooting. Which is true? Do all devices even act the same?
I have an Archos that needed a fix to get it at all but I had not heard that Market didn't work after root until a friend mentioned it a couple of days ago. Was this something Google did with intent?

I have a Motorola Defy and just installed Instagram.
There's supposed to a Camera Settings button in the profile menu, but I can't find it to enable the advanced camera feature.
I have the latest version of Instagram from July 26 installed.
I feel like part of the problem is the auto-crop in the app. I want to use the advanced camera so that the pictures will already be formatted for the Instagram app.

I have a rooted LG Optimus L1 ii, running the stock 4.1 ROM that came with it, from which I uninstalled the stock messaging app after installing Hangouts. As you might have guessed I was unaware that the stock messaging app contains the basic messaging capabilities and all other apps rely on this, so now I'm trying to somehow regain the ability to send and receive SMS.
I have tried installing Handcent, GoSMS, and an app called "Android 4.1 JB Messaging SMS", which claims to be the stock messaging app for JellyBean, all of it to no avail.
Therefore my question is, on a very fundamental level, what are the parts of the Android OS that are required for SMS and that I evidently destroyed? Can I get "generic" stock versions of the necessary apks or do they have to be specific to my phone model?

Any way that you can make the back button in the browser retain the same function that it normally would - IE taking you back to the last program you were in. I hate how it takes you back a page instead - I mean the Browser's back button is there for a reason, right?

I'm on a medical school, and we have a lot of documentation to work with which is digital form, so I thought if I could edit those documents on my Android tablet. BUT, there is a little problem. Those aren't just ordinary Office documents, but they have integrated many charts in which we add text; checkboxes and dedicated fields for text input. But I don't know, if any application from Google Play supports those features in the document, or would it just ignore/not recognize, or even scramble the layout of the document? The running through every application on the Play would be a too big pain in the..n.
Is there any application that would preserve the original layout of the document and allow editing those fields without any issues?

Are there any email widgets which would let me see all my accounts on one screen, instead of having the stock htc one only showing one of them, then switch between the two in the app. It would be great if they were either shared inbox, or separate, but all fit in one homescreen panel.
