HTC Eris :: Back Up Gmail Contacts From Android 1.5
May 23, 2010Sorry ahead of time for the long post. Here's the deal. My wife got the update, but hasn't installed it yet, because she forgot her Gmail password which all of her contacts are synced through. We tried reseting it, but because the Verizion rep set up her account on her phone, he didn't set up a recovery email or secret question. We've tried to get Google to reset it, but it's been over a week, and they are still giving us the runaround.Does anyone know an app or some other way to export Gmail contacts on the Eris in 1.5 preferably to .csv format? Even if we could just save them to the phone instead of using Gmail, that would be a start. We really don't want to have to reenter all of them by hand.

Dec 15, 2009I logged in to my gmail and needed to send email and it wouldn't suggest contacts anymore. I went into contacts and all of them gone except the ones that only had email field filled in. The groups that i created are there but no contacts.
I went into my phone and google contacts are there but they won't sync, errors out with "sync is temporary down".
All this creates another problem for me, I have phone contacts and google contacts in my Eris. Phone contact are synced to PC and all is good but I need my google contact in my gmail so I can email people and I have no way of putting them back to gmail and don't even know how to back them up.

Sep 24, 2010When my girlfriend got her Eris about 4-5 months ago Verizon was kind enough to copy her contacts from her Razor phone to her new Eris. However she now needs to return the phone for service (silent call bug) and she went to G mail to ensure all her contacts was backed up... they are not. It seems the contacts are stored on her phone (Eris) and not in g mail. How can we import all of her contacts from the phone memory into G mail?

Sep 10, 2010Sorry about the new post but I have been searching all day and haven't found one that's what I need. I had to get a replacement for my eris due to trackball issues. I got my replacement today and can't seem to get my contacts onto the new phone. The one thing that I have been able to find out is that I should have saved all of my contacts as Google contacts. I tried using Lookout and was able to transfer my pictures, but only 5 contacts (the only google contacts I have). I also tried MyBackUp but it is asking me for a pin number it never gave me. I downloaded vCardIO and exported my contacts to the sd card, but now when I put the sd card into the new phone it says that there is NOTHING on it, none of my documents- nothing. Is there any way I can change all my contacts to Google contacts? I don't know what else to do, so any help would be appreciated.

May 18, 2010I've tried posting this on other threads but have gotten no replies. Forgive me for starting a new one. I haven't synced my contacts to Gmail since January because I found the way it would garble them all up annoying. But I got the OTA on my phone & wanted to make sure they're backed up before I go ahead w/the installation. Problem is, it has been acting like it's syncing for over 12 hours now & all it's doing is draining my battery. It still shows that it hasn't been synced since January. Also, periodically during the sync attempts, the "too many contacts deletes" notification pops up. I always tell it to delete everything. And it's odd that one time it'll say 505 deletes & the next time it'll say 502 deletes & it keeps getting less. I don't get it. need to back up my contacts before I install 2.1 right?

Jun 6, 2010I recently called someone and wanted to add them to my contact list. In call history, I clicked the little file picture and added their name, saved it as a google contact, and saved it. If I go to People, the name doesnt appear. So I went to the People app, entered their info, made it a google contact, saved. Still didnt work. Even manually synced my google account. So then I changed the "view" to show every option and slowly ticked off each box til I realized that only if "show auto gmail contacts" is ON does my new contact appear. It was also "linked" to 3 other contacts (the same one that I kept adding over and over wondering why it wasnt appearing). So, of course I do NOT want everyone I've ever e-mailed in my contact list, so the question is, how can I add/save any contacts and make them appear in People?

My problem is, I am wanting to do something so simple, I want to sync my contacts on my phone to my gmail account so that it's backed up (if anything happens to my phone) But i tried going to settings and it wont let me do it (maybe i am doing it incorrectly). Nov 24, 2009When I got my new Eris, the Verizon guy offered to swap my contacts from my old phone to the new one (as usual). He did so. After getting home, I noticed he'd also downloaded all the accumulated contacts 9 mostly crap) from my Google Mail account as well. I went and deleted them all but now I keep getting a notification saying that I deleted TOO MANY? It then gives me three choices, one of which is delete them. The notification keeps coming back.

May 21, 2010On my Droid Eris (just updated to Android 2.1), I have taken advantage of 2.1 offering support for multiple Gmail accounts. So I have 3 Gmail Accounts in the Gmail app. My question pertains to how Android syncs the contact lists (which include many of the same contacts) from these 3 separate accounts. Will I end up with dozens of duplicate contacts? If so, is there a workaround? Also, is there an easier way to switch between different Gmail accounts? E.g., in the Gmail app, you have to go to Menu then Accounts, which is inefficient. The built-in mail app displays a list of accounts when you open it (an ideal approach), but I would prefer to not open my Gmail accounts in the default mail app.

I really don't want to have to link it all again if I lose my phone or need to do a factory reset. Is there some way of exporting all the data now? Jul 29, 2010My "phone contacts" have simply been wiped out all of a sudden. My Google, SIM and Facebook contacts are there but all 97 of my phone contacts are simply gone! It now shows phone (0). I thought I could sync back from Google but it appears all along they weren't even being synced even though my Google contacts sync was turned on, so I'm still left with nothing.This is one of the most frustrating and ridiculous problems I've ever encountered on any phone. I rely almost entirely on my phone contacts, and I sure as hell do not want to start copying from my SIM all over again because I'd have to filter out so many unused contacts.

I have been reading of similar problems in other threads but mine is different so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions
Heres what happened
I followed the backup instructions perfectly (INFO: The backup and restore i have on my phone wasnt on the phone originally, it was added by the sony ericsson Computer software about 2 weeks ago so i assume this is the most recent version)
I then downloaded the update. I turnt the phone back on, and logged into my google account as it instructed, and performed the restore.
My apps were not there. My contacts also didn't return.
Now, if this is because my backup and restore was the wrong version, is there nothing i can do? Please dont say my only option is remembering all my aps and downloading them again. What about the ones that were paid for?

Nov 16, 2010Anytime I add a contact detail via the handset if I let it sync, either via Google or SE, the contact will be wiped which is pretty useless (basically I cannot add new contacts on the handset, preposterous!). I contacted SE help, they recommended I use the software update program to update the handset software. I have done this but the update software tells me the handset is running the latest software, the problem persists.

I have a Droid 3. My Accounts include my main Gmail acct, a gmail acct I hardly ever use (no contacts issues there), a pop3 account and a Touchdown-Exchange account which I dont need because Im not connected to that Exchange server any longer. Some time ago, since I wasnt on the Exchange server any more, I deleted the Touchdown account. Then I realized some or most of my Google contacts had disappeared from the phone. Thinking that this would delete the same contacts from the Gmail servers when it synced, I immediately restored the Touchdown account, restoring the lost contacts to the phone. Are these 2 issues related?

Jul 16, 2010So Ive been messing with my contacts and exported them to Gmail where I edited them.I now want those contacts back on my phone as google contacts but don't know how to do it.In the people setting I currently have all my contacts saved as 'phone' but there are some errors. The ones Ive edited on Gmail have all the errors fixed.I have no contacts as 'google' in the people setting.Ive tried syncing with google (with contacts selected) but nothing came through. Could this be because I still had the contacts open in Gmail on my laptop ?I also tried selecting export from Gmail which created a CSV (or similar !) file, however this file was only a few bytes in size and when I saved it on the SD card and tried to import in people there was nothing on it ?So all I want to do is get the correct contacts from Gmail onto the people app on the Desire under 'google' contacts.I feel its something simple that im not doing right.
