Last night my phone decided it wanted to be annoying and started turning itself on and off on its own. This has caused me to lose my network signal.
So far, I have turned the phone off (had it powered down all night while I slept).
Removed the sim card.
Used the recovery options to clear the cache.
Simulated a battery pull.
Thus far, nothing has worked.

Ever since the 2.1 OTA update that I received back in July, my phone has been burning through the battery quickly and places that I usually get a 3G signal I now get no signal and the big X in the signal bar.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI started a thread a while ago about poor wifi performance on my phone (weak signal right next to my laptop that has good signal). Long story short, I discovered that if I'm holding the phone in my palm with fingers wrapped around the sides in usual fashion... my wifi -and cellular signal significantly weaken. Surprisingly, there was no response to this. I began to think maybe this is standard behavior for a smart phone. I mean, when I'm in my office which is the basement, I literally set the phone down or hold it with just two fingers pinching the sides in order to download something on wifi. This 'bulletin' just popped up on Boy Genius Report complaining of this exact same thing happening on the iPhone 4. What gives? Does this happen to other EVOs? Seems to happen on both mine and my wife's so I figured maybe it's just something I have to deal with. But if I have faulty hardware, I'd like to get it taken care of. I think it started monday on my phone and now its mostly running in 1X mode and dropping more calls than I have in the past two years. Not sure if its something with verizon, or maybe and app I updated. (My wifes phone is doing the same, but she also happened to update about a dozen apps on monday)
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy phone has been working fine since June. Saturday morning I had no bars and the 3G icon was missing. I could not make a call nor access data. I re-started the phone and was able to make one call but then no bars. If I drive 1/2 north of my house everything is fine. Same with south. If I leave a two square mile radius from my house phone works just like it did before. I called Sprint to see if there was a problem with a tower or their network. Support only instructed me to do a factory reset. If that doesn't work I could take the phone to a service center. I drove to the local Sprint store - the phone worked fine. I am only having this problem - now -only at home. Issues with data at home is one thing but not being able to get voice calls is another. Will a factory reset work? Could something be blocking the signal? Other than getting a new phone how can I get Sprint to understand this problem?

When it happens none of my applications get internet aceess and my mobile network status says "turning on". The only way I've found to fix it is to pull the battery. Any one else seeing this? If so is there a better fix than pulling the battery?

But it does not get network signal on any Sim card. it claims to be unlocked. when I introduce a Sim it find my contacts, the phone recognizes it, but no network at all is found.
none if the Sim Slots gives signal (a micro and a normal Sim slot)
I double checked and my band is supported by the phone...
I'm trying to write an application that needs to know when there is no IP network connection available. I am using the android.net.conn.CONNECTIVITY_CHANGE broadcast event along with ConnectivityManager to react to the changes in state to achieve this, but I'm having problems testing my set up in the emulator.I have tried both flight mode and pressing F8 to disable the "Cellular Network" but even with both of these engaged the application still "sees" the underlying network.Has anybody managed to find a way to simulate a total lack of network access?

I've read on these groups that you have to have an internet connection before starting the emulator. Since i'm connected to the internet 24/7 :) this is not the problem I've also read somewhere that you should try do disable all other network connections (which i've done) and the problem persists. I got a big problem cause every time i turn my phone into standby i loss my connection to internet and also i loss my mobile signal. after unlock my screen i have 2 enter my pin , i can only phone emergency. when i enter my pin, the phone reconnect and i got signal. i tried nearly every update, i flashed stock ROM and re-flashed cm10, nothing better.

Problem: There's a great battery drain when you're connected to the network (no data but just mobile network for calls/SMS)
Ported ROM: Sandwich Deluxe 4.0 .
Original ROM: Hero ROM
Kernel: carz-2.6.34.4 (fast and stable)
The mobile network drains battery.I'm not in a low signal-area. Everybody who uses the ROM has a drain.I'm using a 2.x.x instead of a 3.0 kernel for an ICS ROM, can it be that this mismatch creates the drain?The phone displays a singal strength of 0dBm 97 asu. (Not normal?)
What doesn't cause the problem? In airplane mode there is no drain at all. So it is unlikely that some apps causes the drain.Wifi, GPS, sync, ... are all disabled.
What do you expect from xdamembers?
- Confirmation if the kernel is the issue of the drain. If not, I would like to know which files (in ROM) are responsible for network signal.
whenever i'm at my friends house and his house is pretty much a dead zone for signal my Inc. seems to restart of turn off and turn right back on. It only happens at his house and i was wondering if it was because of an option to turn off in low signal areas to save battery.

I have a HTC Hero for the last few weeks and really happy with it. I friend recently got the Lg Eve and was looking at it. She wanted to turn off the Wireless Network to cut down on when it accesses the 3G network, but unlike the Hero, I wasn't able to find the Mobile Network setting under Wireless Controls.We took it back to the Rogers store to ask if he sorta blew it off saying she didn't need to turn it off and help her installed a counter to track her data usage.So is there a way to turn it off when it's not in use?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an Eris from Craigslist. It had 2.1 on it. I recently got my number ported and activated on the eris on pageplus. Although the weird thing, and this happened before the activation. Is after i used the wifi widget and the 3g turned off the mobile network wont turn on. I tried using the widget toggle as well as in the menu. Its just always stuck as " Turning On".Do i have to do anything to fix this? I thought i saw a thread about this the other night but now i cant find it. I also did a hard reset thinking that would fix the problem before i did OTA Activation.

"For those of you having battery issues I found a way to Dramatically improve the battery life.
First things first, go into Settings> About Phone> Battery> Battery Use> Cell Standby. Assuming your phone has been on, or off the charger for ~10 minutes, it should show Time Without Signal at around 50%. Next thing, press Home and bring up the dialer. Dial *#*#4636#*#* (Do not press "Call"). After a second, it should bring up the "Testing" menu.
Go into Phone Information, press MENU, and tap "select radio band." You should experience a Force Close, don't panic, this was supposed to happen. Scrolling down shows that the preferred network type is GSM auto (prl). What this means is that even though you are connected to a CDMA network, your phone is trying to find a GSM network, preventing the radio from sleeping, and causing excessive battery drain. Remedy this by tapping GSM auto (prl) and changing it to CDMA auto (prl).
Now your done, your TWS should drop dramatically, and you should experience much better battery life!
Note: You need to do this every time you reboot."
I've changed it on my phone just now and the service still works as normal. I guess we'll see if the battery life increases. If this works and with overclock widget I should be getting some crazy battery life now!
Was wondering if there is an app which can scan for available cell networks and show there signal strength ? Similar to the menu in settings which shows the network names, but I want the strength as well!

I know there's a way to listen for signal strength updates through the TelephonyManager, but this seems to only give a "state," not a numeric value.
Is using the RSSI field on a neighboring cell fairly accurate? I'm guessing not, but I'm running out of ideas.
Has anyone else had a issue with there phone saying it only has signal 50% of the time and also network location not working while running the latest build of Bugless Beat .2.1?

My signal hovers between -96 dBm and -101 dBm and have had network problems beyond belief. Moto droid sitting directly beside my fascinate typically is ten points better at -86 dBm through -91 dBm with zero network problems.
