View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to retrieve the current cellular Signal Strength (RSSI) on Android 1.5?
I know there's a way to listen for signal strength updates through the TelephonyManager, but this seems to only give a "state," not a numeric value.
Is using the RSSI field on a neighboring cell fairly accurate? I'm guessing not, but I'm running out of ideas.
I only get a phone signal about a third of the times i start the emulator. I've read on these groups that you have to have an internet connection before starting the emulator. Since i'm connected to the internet 24/7 :) this is not the problem I've also read somewhere that you should try do disable all other network connections (which i've done) and the problem persists. I'm using Windows 7 and Android 2.1 + API's emulator. You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Developers" group. View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently got a New Quad-core Phone from China. it is a Dual Sim and comes with high profile specifications. But it does not get network signal on any Sim card. it claims to be unlocked. when I introduce a Sim it find my contacts, the phone recognizes it, but no network at all is found.
none if the Sim Slots gives signal (a micro and a normal Sim slot)
I double checked and my band is supported by the phone...
A friend of mine is a member of the EVO Facebook group and sent me to a link which reads as follows:
"For those of you having battery issues I found a way to Dramatically improve the battery life.
First things first, go into Settings> About Phone> Battery> Battery Use> Cell Standby. Assuming your phone has been on, or off the charger for ~10 minutes, it should show Time Without Signal at around 50%. Next thing, press Home and bring up the dialer. Dial *#*#4636#*#* (Do not press "Call"). After a second, it should bring up the "Testing" menu.
Go into Phone Information, press MENU, and tap "select radio band." You should experience a Force Close, don't panic, this was supposed to happen. Scrolling down shows that the preferred network type is GSM auto (prl). What this means is that even though you are connected to a CDMA network, your phone is trying to find a GSM network, preventing the radio from sleeping, and causing excessive battery drain. Remedy this by tapping GSM auto (prl) and changing it to CDMA auto (prl).
Now your done, your TWS should drop dramatically, and you should experience much better battery life!
Note: You need to do this every time you reboot."
I've changed it on my phone just now and the service still works as normal. I guess we'll see if the battery life increases. If this works and with overclock widget I should be getting some crazy battery life now!
Was wondering if there is an app which can scan for available cell networks and show there signal strength ? Similar to the menu in settings which shows the network names, but I want the strength as well!
View 4 Replies View RelatedHas anyone else had a issue with there phone saying it only has signal 50% of the time and also network location not working while running the latest build of Bugless Beat .2.1?
View 12 Replies View RelatedLike the title says, what is everyone's signal strength (settings/about phone/status) and have you been experiencing any mobile network issues at this level?
My signal hovers between -96 dBm and -101 dBm and have had network problems beyond belief. Moto droid sitting directly beside my fascinate typically is ten points better at -86 dBm through -91 dBm with zero network problems.
Last night my phone decided it wanted to be annoying and started turning itself on and off on its own. This has caused me to lose my network signal.
So far, I have turned the phone off (had it powered down all night while I slept).
Removed the sim card.
Used the recovery options to clear the cache.
Simulated a battery pull.
Thus far, nothing has worked.
I using the Cyanogenmod 10 with JB . I got a big problem cause every time i turn my phone into standby i loss my connection to internet and also i loss my mobile signal. after unlock my screen i have 2 enter my pin , i can only phone emergency. when i enter my pin, the phone reconnect and i got signal. i tried nearly every update, i flashed stock ROM and re-flashed cm10, nothing better.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've ported a Hero ROM to a HTC Magic. Here's my problem:
Problem: There's a great battery drain when you're connected to the network (no data but just mobile network for calls/SMS)
Ported ROM: Sandwich Deluxe 4.0 .
Original ROM: Hero ROM
Kernel: carz-2.6.34.4 (fast and stable)
The mobile network drains battery.I'm not in a low signal-area. Everybody who uses the ROM has a drain.I'm using a 2.x.x instead of a 3.0 kernel for an ICS ROM, can it be that this mismatch creates the drain? The phone displays a singal strength of 0dBm 97 asu. (Not normal?)
What doesn't cause the problem? In airplane mode there is no drain at all. So it is unlikely that some apps causes the drain.Wifi, GPS, sync, ... are all disabled.
What do you expect from xdamembers?
- Confirmation if the kernel is the issue of the drain. If not, I would like to know which files (in ROM) are responsible for network signal.
Lately it seems as though every time I tried to use the Market ,Slacker radio or Pandora radio I have problems staying connected to the network. Even with a fairly decent wifi signal I receive a network error message. My phone is completely stock other than Apps I have downloaded.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to reach out to others here before I take my Moment back to Best Buy to exchange it for another Moment.
My signal strength fluctuates wildly just sitting in the same spot. With the Hero I got a constant 5 of 6 bars, but the Moment will vary between 0 and 5 of 6 bars. But it's more complicated than that.
It seems that whenever the EVDO data kicks in, it causes the signal strength to drop to 0 or 1 bar. Once the data is idle, the EVDO indicator turns grey and then changes from EV(^v) to EV(D). At that point the single strength will return to 3 or 4 bars.
At times, though not as consistently or often, the EVDO connection will fall back to 1xRTT and will switch between them every few minutes. This will occur even when the signal strength bars are in the 3 to 4 range.
So, the my questions are...
Does the signal strength apply to the data signal or just the voice signal?
Is there any legitimate reason for the signal strength to vary wildly like I've described, even when sitting in the same recliner where the Hero had a constant 5 bar connection and data service that never wavered?
Is anyone else having signal strength and/or data service issues?
Should I exchange the Moment for another Moment or will I likely experience the same issue?
My phone keep losing it signal and it keep saying "Your sim card does not allow a connection to this network"?
The problem just started this friday, im with t-mobile but im roaming on at&t towers... I haven't dropped the phone or damaged it in any kinda way...
I have been looking at the ConnectivityManager class documented at http://developer.android.com/reference/android/net/ConnectivityManage... .
I would like to know if an Android application can open a network connection (socket) on a specified network interface [on a device supporting multiple network interface types WiFi, Cellular, WiMax etc] ? I am looking for the capability for an application to open a socket on a given type of network for example over WiFi network or over 3G Cellular Data network.
If this is possible in Android, how would I code this requirement within the API Framework ? The ConnectivityManager enables an application to learn about available network connections and currently categorises them as either TYPE_WIFI or TYPE_MOBILE.
There is a member function in the ConnectivityManager class called requestRouteToHost(int, int) [url] which "Ensure that a network route exists to deliver traffic to the specified host via the specified network interface. An attempt to add a route that already exists is ignored, but treated as successful." Sounds like this would install an IP routing table entry to reach a given host via a specified network interface type (WiFi or Mobile). After calling this would it be sufficient for an application to open a socket and connect to the desired destination address ?
Or perhaps the application needs to bind() a socket to a local address of a network interface of the desired type (WiFi or Mobile) Or by setting a socket-level socket option of SO_DONTROUTE ?
I can get a few minutes of 4G signal at my home per day, but when it drops out and 3G takes over, the signal will flatline and boot me offline. My 3G speeds are usually around 56-150Kbps or less, and my 4G speeds are around 2.5 Mbps What would cause this ? According to WiMax location sites online, my nearest 4G tower is .52 mile away. I would think that if I actually get 4G signal, then 3G would be constant. Turning off 4G doesn't help either. Is there some setting that I could have turned off that would cause this ? Running stock EVO on 2.2 all the latest updates
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm writing an android application that collects cell signal strengths. I am having trouble getting the "current" cell signal strength, but I don't have any problem getting the "neighboring" cell signal strengths. To get the current cell signal strength, I created a PhoneStateListener and implemented the onSignalStrengthChanged callback. It works, but not very well. It seems like the signal strength hardly ever changes, and resolution jumps to only a few numbers. I would accept the answer that the resolution of the signal strength hardware is coarse, but when I use the TelephonyManager's getNeighboringCellInfo() method, it works much better. The signal strength readings from neighboring cells change frequently, and they have much better resolution. So, how can I get the current cell signal strength in the same way that I am getting the neighboring cell strengths? It seems odd to me that the functionality of the neighboring cells is better than the current cell. Am I missing something here?I would also like to directly call a method from the telephony manager to get current cell strength, as opposed to a listener, if possible. If anyone knows how, please let me know.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy droid x signal pretty much always between -92dBm and -87dBm with 1-3 3g bars. My former droid eris would get -92dBm with 1 bar and also drain incredibly fast.
On the droid x, if I go into google maps, the circle of the cell tower appears and the place I live at is half way within the edge of the circle and the other half is outside of the circle. I always seem to be connected to this tower. Bad luck I guess that I'm on the outskirts of the circle.
Does anyone know how cell towers are distributed? Do they overlap sometimes?
I run pandora with the screen off for a half hour with the screen off and my battery is down to 70%. I have about 15% screen brightness and battery saving mode on.
yesterday, I was on meebo for an hour and 45 minutes and it was down to 60% from a full charge.
I'm wondering if, with the G1, it's possible to force the network traffic to pass through the Wifi or through the Cell GSM network. I need to force an application to connect through the tower network to get some login information. Is this possible? Anyone have any ideas as to how this would be possible? I'm trying to accomplish this inside an app with the Android SDK (Sorry I wasn't more clear about that originally)

When it happens none of my applications get internet aceess and my mobile network status says "turning on". The only way I've found to fix it is to pull the battery. Any one else seeing this? If so is there a better fix than pulling the battery?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy eris has always has pretty alright battery life, what I would expect out of a smartphone, if unplugged at 9AM it usually was running on its last leg around midnight. I've had it for over 5 months now, I've always had it activated on alltel, I installed the 2.1v3 leak before the official OTA was out and just lately it seems like there something very wrong with my battery life...
If I unplug my phone at 9AM within the past week and occasionaly check and respond to a text message, my battery had been down to almost 30% by NOON... what?..
I have noticed that if I disable Mobile Network (3g/1x data), the thing lasts all day and some... If I turn mobile network ON, I can't see that I have any network traffic or any apps running in the background that are syncing data at all... I've had google account sync mess up on me before and have to reset my google account because it gets stuck in a syncing loop, but its not doing that, already checked. Very weird.
Anyone thing it could be something wrong in my ##PROGRAM#/##778# provisioning menu, maybe something got changed?.. Maybe it could be do to Alltel's AT&T merger that's happening right now, maybe some 3G tower's radios are turned off or something...
I have an android application using LocationManager get the cell network location and not the Wifi location? If I have turned off the Wifi antenna and do the following:LocationManager lm = (LocationManager) paramContext.getSystemService(Context.LOCATION_SERVICE);I am always returned the Wifi location and not the cell network location. I want it to return the cell location since I have moved fromthe Wifi location. I tried using a LocationListener but that doesn't seem to help.

I'd love for my phone to remember the settings used on each wifi profile.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to find a way of quickly switching off/on the Mobile Network setting from the home screen. When searching Google there's loads of pages stating that it is an HTC Widget that can be added. I have checked all the widgets on the Desire HD and cannot seem to find it anywhere. I am using an unbranded handset.
The Desire HD manual even states "You can also add widgets that allow you to quickly switch on or off certain settings of your phone, such as Wi-Fi, Mobile Network...".
Does anyone else with an HD handset have this widget ?
How can i get the gps signal strength and the number of satellites. im using android 1.1 sdk.
