I'm just concerned about the possibility of bricking my Droid III. Even if the instructions are clear enough, there's a chance of running into something unclear in the midst of the process.
I've read about the One-click root, but I don't know if that's as easy as it gets (as of today) and whether it's an undoable hack.

I am planning on rooting manually, using an article I found.
Before I root though, I would like to know if I can (or need to) unroot in order to receive an OTA update android 4.0 from verizon or if I need to take my phone in to get fixed for any reason.
My phone is samsung note2 7105 (JB4.3) and already rooted. However some apps can't run at rooted status so I need to temp unrooted my phone by using superuser. Is it possible set a rules to switch rooted and temp unrooted by tasker?

It involves a lot of command line typing and the initial followers were running into a lot of mistakes but it now appears that the instructions are updated and I saw one person who's gotten root.
Positive is, no stupid inserting/removing the SD card with some voodoo-magic timing req'd.
1) Is it possible to unroot my phone via SuperOneClick even though im on Siyah v3.3.2 or do i just have to use my original kernel?
2) Corresponding to my first question what will happen to my phone if i flash my original kernel while still being on my custom rom. Do i have to download stock ICS 4.0.3 to go back to the original version?
If I have a Nand backup from a fresh root before any ROMs were put on. Can I unroot from that first nand and go back to non-rooted if i choose to or do I have to go another route to unroot and be back to non rooted? I have searched and all I can find is downgrading back to 1.5 and I don't want to go back that far. This is purely hypothetical If I ever want to go back to original for purposes of selling the phone or having to send it back to the Big V.

gradual steps/mistakes...
1. installed clockworkmod from playstore
2. tried to access superuser...but there was some issue with that..
3. when i restarted my phone using vol- key and power button i entered into hboot mode, from where i enter clockworkmod...
4. full wiped the phone, cache and everything that was given in instruction of icecold sandwich..
5. icecold sandwich was there in sd card as zip file....so i chose the "install zip from memory card option"..
6. then there is message of installation completed..
but my phone is unable to start.... there is htc logo and no further process..
I have an application that needs to send messages, repeatedly to the server. I'm currently using AJAX from the phone's browser and it works fairly reliably, but, as with all things cell-phone, not 100%. I'm curious if using Android and opening a socket to the server would give me any additional reliability, or if it would suffer from the same communication troubles that hinder the AJAX transmission.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use an LG Optimus L4 II (e445). I rooted it but then decided I had too much on it and decided to restore to factory settings. It all worked fine. However, when I got to the Google Account sign in page, it gave me the "couldn't establish a reliable connection to the server" error message. I followed every single tutorial I could find online as to how to solve this. None of them worked. Eventually, I re-rooted it (using VRoot) and managed to download an apk of ES file explorer and locate the hosts file. This had one line that shouldn't have been there:

From what I can make out, this is the address of google's sign in servers. So somehow (I suspect malware/dodgy rooting program?) my hosts file has been edited to stop me logging into google. Restoring the device does nothing, neither does unrooting/rerooting. When I open up the file in ES (when rooted) and edit out the bad lines, I can't save for some reason- I think the /system folder is write protected.
So I tried to make the /system folder writeable. I used the android sdk to do this (mount -o command) but this did not do anything. I downloaded the mount /system apk and installed that, it did not work either. I tried /pull and /push on the hosts file to edit it and send it back using the apk. I could successfully pull and edit it, but it would not let me push it back. I can effectively not use my phone- I can't use most apps and can't download any.
I'm using the Nexus 4, with Jelly Bean 4.2.2 (stock ROM, rooted). It works great, and I've got face unlock working... mostly.I'm trying to train it, by going into Settings->Security->Improve Face Matching periodically, but it still only recognizes my face about half the time.
Often, the lighting is bad - maybe it's too dark, or I'm backlit so my face is turned into a silhouette - there's not much to be done there, but often, there are borderline situations, where the camera shows what I think is a recognizable picture of myself on the screen, but the phone says "Sorry, I don't recognize you."
Does retraining the phone often enough eventually get the facial recognition system to work better? Or is it always going to fail here and there if the lighting's off?Or are there any hidden tips based on whatever algorithms the face-unlocker uses, that would improve my results?

Some of the stuff I have been reading online have said that in order to get the update, an unrooted phone is needed. So, I've been trying to figure out the best way to unroot my phone! View 6 Replies View RelatedNo immediate plans to but does anyone know how to? I assume delete superuser.apk su and busybox. Was there an original version of su that got overwritten? The only other dx we have that isn't rooted is a hundred miles away but i could try to fish su out of it and check the attributes on it. Anyone ponder this yet? May not be necessaryto do as froyo may wipe anyway. Then again birdman says 2.2 is patched and our 2.1 exploit doesn't work. Meaning an ota from vzw will lock us out.
