What is the easiest way to root/unroot. Ive seen videos on easy root that looked pretty damn easy, just didn't know if it actually worked i guess it looked too easy. The only thing I want to do with root is get some nice themes more thank likely i won't overclock. Thanks in advance.

i have root on my device an am running 2.1, if i wait for the official ota of froyo 2.2 will root stay on my phone or should i unroot it before the official ota?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm just concerned about the possibility of bricking my Droid III. Even if the instructions are clear enough, there's a chance of running into something unclear in the midst of the process.
I've read about the One-click root, but I don't know if that's as easy as it gets (as of today) and whether it's an undoable hack.
No immediate plans to but does anyone know how to? I assume delete superuser.apk su and busybox. Was there an original version of su that got overwritten? The only other dx we have that isn't rooted is a hundred miles away but i could try to fish su out of it and check the attributes on it. Anyone ponder this yet? May not be necessaryto do as froyo may wipe anyway. Then again birdman says 2.2 is patched and our 2.1 exploit doesn't work. Meaning an ota from vzw will lock us out.

I am not using any extra apps that i could not use, nor the wonderful homepages. How can i set the HomePages look like others'? My look just like the unrooted phone. I wanna have huge clock, but i cannot find any of them after i rooted my phone.

I'm beginning to think it's not the screen and actually the phone itself (since WaveSecure doesn't seem to be able to remotely lock / alarm the phone), in which case this post is moot. In either case, there is no way to unroot the phone without being able to mount the phone, correct? Since I can't see anything on the screen I obviously can't mount it. I'd rather not try to have them replace a rooted phone though. If the phone is fried, will they be able to detect that it was rooted?

I'm selling it off to offset cost. It's already deactivated, I've been trying to use the Rom Manager to download a stock image but it keeps failing, apparently it doesn't want to use Wifi (tried in airplane mode too). Even then the version it downloads is rooted. I'd like to reset/wipe the phone down to 2.1 or 2.0.1 and a way to make sure OTA will work when it gets activated. How can I do this?

If I have a Nand backup from a fresh root before any ROMs were put on. Can I unroot from that first nand and go back to non-rooted if i choose to or do I have to go another route to unroot and be back to non rooted? I have searched and all I can find is downgrading back to 1.5 and I don't want to go back that far. This is purely hypothetical If I ever want to go back to original for purposes of selling the phone or having to send it back to the Big V.

View 25 Replies View RelatedI've used DMudpater before to unroot with no problems. I just did it a few minutes ago and I'm able to get past the M logo and the Eye. However, once the phone starts to load up, I get nothing but a rapid succession of FC's for every app on my phone. After the FCs, my screen is COMPLETELY BLACK except for the status bar, which shows a date of December 31, 1969 and shows a time of 7:05PM (it's actually 4:15PM where I'm at). There's no service in the status bar.

I then downloaded the 2.2 OTA and now phone is stuck on the M Logo. From my understanding I can't flash so now what to do? BTW I'm using the Terminal Emulator for rooting not ADB.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm pretty new when it comes to rooting and whatnot, but I gave it a shot. It worked well. I currently have Cyanogen 5.0.5 on my phone and I love it! I heard that the OTA 2.1 is finally out, and I wanted to unroot and try it to compare against my ROM. I have read of ways to do this, but I think my situation is a little more unique. I attempted to revert back to stock via ROM Manager. I must have done the wrong thing, so I ended up just reinstalling the update.zip file from my SD Card. I resigned into Google and it was just like the first time I rooted. I re-downloaded ROM Manager and when I try to "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery", I get the error message: "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands." The "reboot into recovery" also does not work. I can still hold "X" and power on, but I just get the clockwork recovery menu, and end up nowhere but back to Cyanogen. I love Cyan and will probably stick with it, but nothing as far as root apps work anymore. DM also doesn't work for me anymore. When I enter recovery mode, it gives me the option to boot from update.zip, or factory reset. Would factory reset mess everything up? Any help/ideas?

If I do this, I think it would be best for her to have an unrooted Stock Droid. I did this before with a Droid I had to send in:

But is there a 2.2 SBF to install? Or do I need to install 2.1 then wait for the update?
ok so wouldnt this make sense or am i missing something. if you did want to unroot for the 2.1 update which im obviously not gunna do now that i just saw a post for the desire rom. couldnt you just restore your phone. like master reset? prob a stupid question so im sorry haha.
