General :: MMS Over WiFi Calling Via 3rd Party App?
Dec 12, 2013
Has used a 3rd party SMS/MMS application (ie Handcent, GoSMS, Textra, 8sms, etc etc) to use send/receive MMS over WiFi Calling WITHOUT ANY DATA? I'm in an area where I can only use WFC, and all of my 3rd party SMS apps simply will not send or receive MMS over WiFi Calling without using the stock app.
And I repeat, NO DATA, no wifi = no service, so if you have a solution, make sure it's not quietly turning on data, sending the MMS, then going back to wifi, because that's not going to work as there is no cell service in this location.

I just wanted to ask what types of solutions are most successful for calling and texting using a 3G/wifi connection.
I'm going to Canada tomorrow and Verizon said that 3G is included in my plan but regular texting/calling is extra when out of the country.
I want to be able to make/receive calls from my friends in Canada with me AND be able to communicate with friends still in the states without any of us incurring further charges.
My assumption is that I will need to utilize apps that work with Google Voice. I don't believe the native GV app handles texts or calls itself though.
I've seen GrooVe IP mentioned for VOIP style calling with Google Voice (gchat?).
I've seen Kakaotalk mentioned for texting, I want non-smartphone users to be able to text me too..

I have T-Mobile, with the old Hotspot@Home billing feature that gives me unlimited UMA minutes (used to have two blackberries and used UMA a lot). I have really missed this with my Nexus One. With TMO rolling out Kineto's application for "WiFi Calling" I am trying to figure out what is possible for my Nexus One, currently at Android 2.2.1 (FRG85).Is the Kineto deal only going to be for TMO builds of Android? I have read that Kineto's business model is to not sell direct, hence no availability in the Market. Since my Nexus One gets its Android system updates independently, this would mean I can never get an update with Kineto built-in, right? If I were able to install Kineto, would it look like UMA to TMO so the calls would be covered under my unlimited H@H plan? Any bright ideas on how I can get WiFi Calling (the TMO supported plan that uses my TMO number, not some SIP implementation or Google Voice)? I prefer not to root, but if I have to root to get UMA, I will.

This may seem like a really dumb question but I have been told several different things by several different people who should know. Does the Vibrant connect to a Wi-Fi and use it for data and calling? I have a Blackberry Curve at present and I have no reception inside my house. I connect my Curve to my Wi-Fi network and can do all data things and talk with zero dropped calls. I'm hoping to be able to do this with the Vibrant. If I can't I will have to consider another phone (I can't live with no reception in my house). I don't care if I can tether from it, I just need ot be able to use the Wi-Fi for data and calls on the handset.

I've just moved into as SG Mega. But have a problem with contacts. All my contacts have safely come down from Google and appear to all be there and fine, however my third-party apps aren't seeing them. If I start a text message in "Messaging", it reads the contacts and offers me choices. But if I do the same in "Handsent", my messaging app of choice, it does not. Likewise, "Gmail" sees the email addresses in my contacts fine, whereas my regular email app, K9, does not.

is there anyway to know which third party keyboards are safe to use?
Is like a neon one but the warning message when setting it makes me nervous about the possibility of it recording and sending my input.

This seems to be a pretty big piece of news that very few people are talking about: T-Mobile makes Wi-Fi calling on Android official Boy Genius Report I have wifi (UMA) calling on my Blackberry, which is a pretty nifty feater when you're outside of the US or in a poor coverage area. This would be a killer feature on Android.

My cctv dvr comes with an android app that I can use to view cctv cameras.
The dvr is configured to send an email when it detects motion.
What I'm struggling with is trying to figure out how to launch the cctv android app when an email arrives, and then after a set time (e.g. 30secs) to stop the application or put it to sleep.
The idea is that I will have a number of android tablets on the wall in various rooms, and they will come on and off automatically when motion is detected outside.
Is it possible to achieve this? Is there an app that can look out for the email notification and then launch a 3rd party app i.e. the cctv app, and then after a preset time shut it down. (I think if the cctv app is left running in the background, the streaming is still continuing and drains battery and eats data.)

I have a android apk which I installed on my Samsung Galaxy Ace 2.
I backed the app up so I could download the apk to my Windows PC.
I'd like to edit the .png files in it, I've followed a tutorial on here using the apktool, decompiled ok and recompiled it, but when I transfer it back to my phone to re install it I get a message saying the application cannot be installed.

I currently have a Samsung s3 with jb 4.1.2 on it. After the upgrade I have realised contacts app has a little more lag while loading. I have read that installing a third party contacts app could be one quick workaround. However if I install a third part contacts app... Will it delete/uninstall the stock contacts app? I have a Sprint HTC One. I recently flashed a new ROM. VENOM 5.0 which supports my PDA.
So, after installing it I downloaded all the required apps and they worked fine.
Later the next morning when I switched on my data connection, all the apps ran on data and everything went on well. Then I installed Root Firewall PRO and set all my required settings, after that none of the third party apps didn't receive any data connection. Neither Whatsapp nor Facebook Messenger received data. Even though they are only messaging apps, they also did not receive any Data Connection.

I've noticed something since I updated my phone to kitkat 4.4.2 (it's a Z1 compact).
Whenever I use another app than my default app to send SMS, eg. I'm using SMSPopup, Glowfly or event another "real" SMS app along with my default one (let's say hangouts or Handcent), I have duplicate sent SMS, that means I have twice my sent messages in my list. I didn't have this issue on JB.
I tried to tweak access/read/write permissions via AppOps but the result is still the same. I now have to use the same app for popups/Notifications and SMS. Other SMS apps are useless because they duplicate the text messages.

When someone that I don't want to speak with is calling me, soft keys disappear (only Google Now button it's there), so I can't continue with the activity that I am making.
Is there any way to keep the call entering in background and continue working with another app? Without cancelling the call, I mean.

I setup SIP calling through Sipdroid and Pbxes just fine. Uninstalled Sipdroid and was able to make SIP calls over 3G/WiFi using the Android Native Dialer. Suddenly my SIP calling does not work any more. I did not change any of the settings. When making calls over 3G/WiFi the call connects but immediately hangs up. The call log shows the call as outgoing but lasting "0 minutes, 0 seconds." The Sipdroid app works just fine but I don't want it running all the time.
UPDATE: I can make outgoing calls only if "Receive Incoming Calls" is checked. I would assume there is a way to make outgoing calls over SIP without having to accept them since I have GV forwarded to my cell number (yes I know it uses minutes but it saves on battery.)

I am searching an application that can tell me "who is calling" in those cases where the called number is not in among my contacts. To do this the application should access via internet to databases such as yellow pages, white pages and tellows. It would be nice if the same application could use all of these 3 databases and, if a match is found, a pop-up should come up on the screen with the information found.

I am running a Sense based ICS ROM (HyperNonSense 1.4) on an HTC Sensation, and somehow the option to enable internet calling (SIP) disappeared. Previously I would go to the dialer and then hit menu and the option to enable SIP would be there. Now it is somehow gone. Is there a setting I need to enable elsewhere to get this option back?

I am trying to reduce the battery consumption on my Note. I have several apps which use the GPS but the gpsd process is being called quite a lot, even when I am not using any GPS app.
Simple question - now that I have established which service is being called (using better battery stats) is there a way to determine which app(s) are using it? GT-N7000

I have an SGS2 running ICS and have setup my android's SIP client (internet calling) in phone > settings > internet call settings ("Accounts" and "Use internet calling", at the bottom).
I call many international numbers through sip. If I set the option "Use internet calling" to "Ask for every call", then every time I dial a number it asks whether to use "Mobile phone call" or "Internet call". If I choose the latter, then the call is made through my sip provider saving me lots of money.
It would be really useful if there was an app that would intercept calls to certain numbers I configure and change to internet call mode on the fly. The "prefixer" app does something close with prefixing/suffixing numbers.
Alternatively, I would also be happy with a widget that allows me to switch that phone option between "Ask for every call" and "Only for Internet calls" when tapped, so I don't have to navigate through menus all the time. For a dev this shouldn't be that hard I presume since it would just alter an existing OS option.

When calling, roughly 3 out of 10 calls my phone just spontaneously reboots. It does no matter if I get called or if I am calling. It usually happens straight after a connection is established but in rare cases it also happens during the call. It had this since the beginning when I even did not install 1 app yet.
Other then the calling issue the phone is working flawlessly. I am running the stock Android 4.0.3 HTC ONE V (which I recently rooted, but the problem exists already before the rooting)
Below are the logs for one such crash
System log during call and crash reboot (at around 17:33):
Code:
