I have T-Mobile, with the old Hotspot@Home billing feature that gives me unlimited UMA minutes (used to have two blackberries and used UMA a lot). I have really missed this with my Nexus One. With TMO rolling out Kineto's application for "WiFi Calling" I am trying to figure out what is possible for my Nexus One, currently at Android 2.2.1 (FRG85).Is the Kineto deal only going to be for TMO builds of Android? I have read that Kineto's business model is to not sell direct, hence no availability in the Market. Since my Nexus One gets its Android system updates independently, this would mean I can never get an update with Kineto built-in, right? If I were able to install Kineto, would it look like UMA to TMO so the calls would be covered under my unlimited H@H plan? Any bright ideas on how I can get WiFi Calling (the TMO supported plan that uses my TMO number, not some SIP implementation or Google Voice)? I prefer not to root, but if I have to root to get UMA, I will.

I have a rooted 2.2 android incredible phone but my reception at my house is terrible and I would like to make calls over my wifi connection for free.I have saw there are many different ways to doing this but either I am not setting it up right or they dont work any more. Some of these guides are confusing. Can anyone help? I have a google voice number and I tried setting up through sipgate but it keeps saying it fails to register on my phone and I don't know why. Whats the best and easiest way to get free wifi calls?

I just wanted to ask what types of solutions are most successful for calling and texting using a 3G/wifi connection.
I'm going to Canada tomorrow and Verizon said that 3G is included in my plan but regular texting/calling is extra when out of the country.
I want to be able to make/receive calls from my friends in Canada with me AND be able to communicate with friends still in the states without any of us incurring further charges.
My assumption is that I will need to utilize apps that work with Google Voice. I don't believe the native GV app handles texts or calls itself though.
I've seen GrooVe IP mentioned for VOIP style calling with Google Voice (gchat?).
I've seen Kakaotalk mentioned for texting, I want non-smartphone users to be able to text me too..

Has used a 3rd party SMS/MMS application (ie Handcent, GoSMS, Textra, 8sms, etc etc) to use send/receive MMS over WiFi Calling WITHOUT ANY DATA? I'm in an area where I can only use WFC, and all of my 3rd party SMS apps simply will not send or receive MMS over WiFi Calling without using the stock app.
And I repeat, NO DATA, no wifi = no service, so if you have a solution, make sure it's not quietly turning on data, sending the MMS, then going back to wifi, because that's not going to work as there is no cell service in this location.

This may seem like a really dumb question but I have been told several different things by several different people who should know. Does the Vibrant connect to a Wi-Fi and use it for data and calling? I have a Blackberry Curve at present and I have no reception inside my house. I connect my Curve to my Wi-Fi network and can do all data things and talk with zero dropped calls. I'm hoping to be able to do this with the Vibrant. If I can't I will have to consider another phone (I can't live with no reception in my house). I don't care if I can tether from it, I just need ot be able to use the Wi-Fi for data and calls on the handset.

This seems to be a pretty big piece of news that very few people are talking about: T-Mobile makes Wi-Fi calling on Android official Boy Genius Report I have wifi (UMA) calling on my Blackberry, which is a pretty nifty feater when you're outside of the US or in a poor coverage area. This would be a killer feature on Android.

I have tried out the Fring Video calling and it works pretty well, I wanted to try the Qik solution as well, but I cannot seem to. I tried downloading the Qik app on appbrain but the Android Market cannot find it, I have messed around with the Qik app already on the phone and see nothing about video chat. the Market is not working correctly, apps such as Qik and Handcent are not accessible, hopefully they will be soon. Waiting patiently.

Just wondering if there is a way to link an incoming call to a call already in progress. I do know about the "add a call" feature where I can call another person while already in a call... But I want to know how to activate 3-way calling when someone calls me while I'm already talking to another person.

When someone that I don't want to speak with is calling me, soft keys disappear (only Google Now button it's there), so I can't continue with the activity that I am making.
Is there any way to keep the call entering in background and continue working with another app? Without cancelling the call, I mean.

I have done some searches, but I can't seem to find this answer. I want to do an EVO to EVO call using Fring and have video while on the call. I have read about the Swype issue and Fring but I thought I read you could do an EVO to EVO Fring video call using just Fring. However, on the test call I have a choice of the video button, but when I try and call my daughter who is set up, I don't get a video button to hit like on the test call, just the phone call button?

I don't own an Android 4.3 tablet yet but I need to know the following things.I wanted to restrict my device so that a user is unable to change any settings (in particular turn on/off WiFi) and disable all applications except one.How strict is the restriction?
If I disable all apps except one what will the restricted user be able to do?
In an ideal scenario I'd like the restricted user to do only 3 things:
a) turn the tablet on/off
b) turn the application of my choosing on/off
c) all other options would be disabled
d) the restricted user should NOT see any data of the administrator

It's done this twice now (before and after factory reset). 2.1 OTA, not rooted.
Whenever I turn on the wifi, or I become in range of my WPA2 network, it doesn't always connect. I say "always" because it seems to be random. If I toggle wifi on or off, it doesn't always connect. Sometimes it connects after 30+ seconds. Every other device connects just fine.
The only sure way to get it to connect is to force it to rescan, usually by going to Settings and displaying all SSIDs in range. THEN it connects, always and immediately.
The even sillier thing is, it will alert me of open networks, but never connect to my own saved network.

My Hero takes a long time to connect to my home wifi. I usually go in to the settings and hit "Scan" repeatedly before it connects. Sometimes it fails connect, and I have to go into Settings to try again. Is there a way/app to scan automatically or re-attempt to connect again? Maybe there's something I'm not thinking of?

I'm having a problem calling GeoCoder.getFromLocation();
I have a LocationListener calling an updateLocation() method in my class, which in turns calls GeoCoder.getFromLocation() with the current location.
CODE:............
When I run this code on a device (HTC Magic 1.6) I get the following error :
D/LocationMasfClient(15392): getAddressFromProtoBuf(): Ignore feature 0,1er Arrondissement Paris D/AndroidRuntime(21403): Shutting down VM W/dalvikvm(21403): threadid=3: thread exiting with uncaught exception (group=0x4001da38) E/AndroidRuntime(21403): Uncaught handler: thread main exiting due to uncaught exception
If I run the same code on an emulator (1.6 with google api) the error I get is :
D/GpsLocationProvider(52): setMinTime 0 E/LocationMasfClient(52): reverseGeocode(): no feature in GLocation
