General :: Google 4.3 TRIM For Earlier Versions
Aug 3, 2013So Google recently introduced (secretly) TRIM support for 4.3. My question is...is there anyway to port this to 4.1+? Are there any alternative apps in Google Play?

I have a phone running Android 2.3.4. I also just purchased a tablet which will be running Android 4.0.
Will I be able to use the same google account on both of these or should I set up a new one for the tablet?
I plan to install several apps on the tablet which are too advanced to run on the lower version of Android.
Does Cyanogenmod 11 which is based on Android Kitkat 4.4.2 Support "TRIM" ?? I watched a video last week about the importance of this feature FOR android 4.3 and up ... I just want to know if this ROM support it ?!

View 10 Replies View RelatedIn an Android app, I am looking for the functionality of the .NET string function [Trim('aaa')] which will trim off the text "aaa" off a string. I don't think this is natively available in Java and I haven't seen that functionality in Android Java textutil library. Is there an easy way to have a Java app trim a set of characters from the string?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to remove specific entries in the default phone book on the Dinc? If you have multiple phone numbers entered for a contact, all of them appear as as option for sending a text message. I would like to remove the "send message" entry for all non-mobile numbers. I see that there is a default phone number option for each contact. Is the same option to pick a default number for messaging? If so, that would help the mobile number for sms stand out in the list. I have sent a few texts to home or work phone numbers accidentally and I am trying to idiot proof my contact lists.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis mostly applies to folks who have flashed the leaked ota and want to go back to legit stock. There is generally a problem with that, because we cannot use the RUU due to the upgraded Hboot (no radio has nothing to do with it).
Through my travels, I found a way to do it.
This is not without its risks, and I take no responsibility for any broken phones, knocked up cats, or homeless hamsters caused from the havoc it may wreak.
It did work for me, quite well. I was able to flash to an old RUU without issue like nothing ever happened.
First, the link I used, and then the english version.

Now, my instructions, which will hopefully simplify it. I take no credit for this by the way, credit is due to the original thread.
1. Download and unzip the files I have attached to this thread and put them somewhere that you can push them with adb.
2. You must used Unrevoked's latest tool to install clockwork.
3. Boot into clockwork recovery, go to partitions, and mount data.
4. Type this code...
I have a beta build of an app and a stable build of an app and I am trying to get them to install together. Right now I have the beta build installed and I tried editing the AndroidManifest.xml with apktool. It rebuilt the edited version but still asked to replace the existing one!

Or one root file for each android version like 2.3.6 or 4.3?
ive a i9300 wich i has no problems at all to instal the new bbm . but as far as i tried to manually instal the apk to some 2.3.6 phones from friends they all show "a problem has ocurred" . and obiously the installation won't proceed.
So i was wondering if there is some kind of hacking to make the apk work on devices with android version below 4.0
I have a need to have two versions of one app on my phone.
Is it possible to edit the apk to allow me to have two copies of the same app which would function as two separate apps? The app in question is Google Hangouts
I want to know how to install two versions of one same application at the same time.
As a matter of fact, I want to install Opera Mini 4.2 China Version and Opera Mini 4.2 Internaional Version at the time. But...Since Opera Mini 5 makes it difficult to describe the question, here takes HelloWorld.apk as an example.
Well, there are two versions of the application "HelloWorld": 1.0 and 1.1. (This is just an example)
I have installed HelloWorld 1.0 on my phone, and when I try to install HelloWorld 1.1, the 1.0 version will be replaced. But...I want to have both of them installed on my phone. That is to say, there will be two "HelloWorld" icons in the app drawer.
I use APKTool to extract the com.hello.world.apk into some "text" files, including an AndroidManifest.xml and a lot of *.smali files. In the AndroidManifest.xml, I saw this:
<manifest package="com.hello.world" versionCode="100" versionName="1.0">
I changed the value "com.hello.world" to "com.goodbye.world". Then I re-build the apk file and transferred it to my phone.
I installed the modified package, it was successfully installed and I see two "HelloWorld" icons in my app drawer!
I try to launch the HelloWorld 1.0, it succeeds.
I try to launch the HelloWorld 1.1, it FCs immediately.
Well, this is my situation. How can I make both of them launch-able in my phone? Is it possible? What should I modify apart from "package" filed in AndroidManifest.xml?
I've synced my outlook calendar with Samsung Galaxy S Android calendar. However, all my events are half an hour earlier than the actual time.
Does anyone know why this is so, and how to rectify this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently had the misfortune of downloading the latest OTA update from samsung to 4.3.3. Made my phone very laggy and not a great improvement. Years back I rooted and flashed my HTC Wildfire, which wasnt a big deal as the phone was relatively cheap.
Anyway to get to the point. I flashed with 4.2.2 Cyanogen Mod onto my Galaxy S4 and had backed up my stock using Clockwork Mod. I have been able to use Titanium backup pro to restore pretty much everything except my contacts. I think the issue is with my old contacts being stored in a newer version of Android. Is there anyway around this as I would really like to get my contacts back.
I had tried flashing with a stock ROM but the latest one I can get from sammobile is 4.2.2
Here is the apk from CM7: nexus.neural.cm7.apk

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm contemplating the idea of developing an application for the android. I have several years of experience developing web applications with Java and so figured it shouldn't be too hard to pickup a book and learn how to do it for the android platform. So far so good; that's why I love Java.
My question is in regards to how does the android development community go about testing their applications of the various android version and phones? I think I'm more concerned about the android version rather than the phones. I'm planning on getting the Sprint Evo 4G LTE coming out on Friday, so I'm obviously going to be able to develop and test for Android 4 and HTC Sense 4 (though I don't think that is as important right? Development is usually against the OS and not the UI manager, right?). But how would I go about testing against Gingerbread, Froyo, etc.? Do you guys keep a previous old phone (like my old HTC Evo 4G) and flash diferent roms in order to test the app against previous versions of android? Are there other solutions? If it's using an old phone, does this work off-network/service? I guess you could just dump the apk on the sd card and install as third party app and test it out. As long as the app doing require phone services or mobile data network (internet) you'd be fine if you have wifi access right?
The problem is maintaining apps that were NOT installed from the Market, but from .apk files scattered in various directories on the SD card. What I need is a tool that combines the functionality of an app manager like Easy Installer together with details of all currently-installed apps: In a single big list sorted by app name, I'd like to see the installed version (if any), plus every available .apk file and the version it contains. That would make it SO much easier to know if I need to update installed apps with a newer version, and to delete multiple .apk files of outdated versions.
I've seen lots of apps (including the Apps menu built into Android Settings) to view the installed apps and their version info -- and also lots of apps to scan the whole SD card for .apk files and display the actual app info (name, version, etc.) vs. just the filenames. What's missing is an easy way to compare all these.
I've noticed that versions after Skype v4.0 have been having this issue where, when minimized or screen turned off, the app essentially disconnects. I've been doing testing with another account on the pc which I would use to write to my Skype on the phone. Works fine until I leave the app itself. It is still running, I've made 100% sure of that. When writing myself it first shows me as online but quickly updates to "offline" and message is "pending", i.e. not delivered before I open the app again.
How about battery life comparison between the older and newer versions? It's the main reason I wanna use the newer versions because allegedly the battery has been improved alot since 4,7 but sadly, in these versions, I have this problem.
Now that Flash Player is no longer being updated for older versions of Android and is completely incompatible with ICS+, couldn't browser makers simply build Flash Player into their browsers, similar to the way it was built into SkyFire for Windows Mobile a few years ago? Couldn't it be made available as an addon for Dolphin HD?
