I followed the effen manual to flash a new ROM for my HCT Desire HD on Monday, December 12th with absolute success. However, I have lost the start up sound file and when I boot my android, it boots in quiet mode. I searched for a solution and found many threads explaining how to disable it, but very little on how to enable it.
The problem is when I open my SDcard and look in the media/audio/notifications all I have is a facebook.mp3 file, I do not have any other files that would allow for the start up sound to open on boot.

After buying a HTC Desire in August, I've been very happy with it. The best phone I have ever owned. And after rooting it and installing LeeDroid's 1.9a ROM, I've been enjoying the tweaks and a2sd+. Anyway, I have a Telus Desire which I unlocked and am using with Fido. I followed this guide to root and this to install the LeeDroid ROM.
Ever since then, however, I have not been flash any new ROMs. When I flash a new ROM using ROM Manager, it goes to the white screen with the HTC in green then the screen/phone just shuts off becoming unresponsive until I take the battery out then in again. When I open ROM Manager, it gives me a pop-up that says "Recovery Failure" with three lines which say:
- Recovery mode is "broken".
- ROM Manager doesn't reboot.
- Other.
I tried to reload the clockwork recovery using ROM Manager and Unrevoked. Didn't seem to fix the issue. There is an official OTA update that I couldn't install due to the same issue. If you have any input as to how I should fix this issue

I had an issue flashing the newest version of the leedroid ROM. To start my phone was running stock un-rooted Android 2.1. This is what I've done
1) Rooted the device using the Unrevoked method. Everything with this went fine. I get the Superuser app and I can get the '#' prompt at a terminal.
2) Then I partitioned my SD card using Rom Manager in preparation for A2SD+
3) Then I booted into clockwork mod recovery and wiped data/factory reset, wiped cache, and wiped dalvik cache
4) Then I tried to flash the leedroid rom from zip on the sd card
After reboot my phone appears to be stuck on the HTC screen and will not move forward. But if I take out the battery I can boot back into recovery mode. So it appears my phone is not broken, but it clearly isn't working. I've tried flashing a number of different ROMs but get the same result each time.

I had DJ Droid installed on my desire and I was trying to unroot it and put a stock 2.1 rom on so I could put Froyo OTA once it was released but I didn't get very far!I formatted my spare card sd card and wanted to make a new gold card as out of the two I used I wasn't sure which was the gold card.Whenever I turn on my phone it hangs on the HTC start up screen.I can hold power and volume down and get into HBOOT, go to recovery, volume up and get to Android system recovery <2e> Apply update.zip and it says No Such File even though I put it on but I may of wiped the partition during all this which has removed this file. When I try to mount the micro sd using an adapter and look at the files on it it says 'You need to format the disk in drive G:before you can use it.This happens for both cards. I try to format them but they both fail Anybody ideas apart from leave things how they are in future!

Have just got my HTC Desire. I switched the phone on for the first time and it's stuck on a screen with a green icon on. The icon is a down arrow with two arrows going around in a circle. What am I supposed to do here? I've pressed on the screen and held for a few seconds, pressed and held each of the buttons and no response. Not even the power button works.

UP front just let me say I "hope" the Android stomps Apple. That said, I think it will have a rough time of doing so. Why? Well, for one the primary purveyor of Android does not derive a primary source of income from their efforts. Second, the companies providing Androids have no real reason nor ability to continually refine Android proper. And that last point really bugs me. The phone manufactures are not software developers and that leads to two issues, 1) they don't understand what it takes to develop software and 2) they are motivated to not do so. By point number 2 I mean they make money pumping out new phones. If they provide new things in currently deployed phones they are just cutting themselves out of revenue. What is the solution? Well for one how about they start charging for OS upgrades just like MS and Apple do? Would the market bear this?

If I try to entry in recovery mode with the vol+ button, it remains with the Android robot lying down with a red tiangolo, with no options.

Trying to get CM10 built for the Samsung Galaxy Reverb. It's building just fine, but no matter what we try it WILL NOT BOOT. We get a black (backlit) screen after the Samsung logo and nothing more.
I've tried flashing the stock boot.img over the rom, building and flashing the stock kernel seperately (that boots the stock rom just fine when flashed but won't boot CM10), and tried modding the ramdisk to boot, but nothing is working.
I've looked at other MSM7x30 devices to find if I'm missing anything, but I can't find anything that I don't have in the device folder.
Here's the device repo: [URL] ......

My Samsung Galaxy Reverb has nobody willing to build CM10 for it, so I decided to take on the task. It built without error - processed the kernel and all the CyanogenMod 10 files just fine and generated the .zip. However, after flashing the .zip I end up with a Samsung logo, then a black screen.
The compile went through without error, so I'm a little lost as to what I should check next. From doing a little searching it seems the kernel is at fault, but what to do about that. Am I supposed to flash the kernel separate from the .zip that the CM builder outputs?

Today with my left hand (not primary for me) I'm tried to drop down notification bar and ... again Icons and Widgets start floating, constantly moving and whole my 5 home screens was compiled in one and I can scroll this summary screen.
How to do that again.Device is LT18i Android 4.0.4, stock .587 kernel, installed just this XPERIA Ultimate HD MOD[ver:1.3][ ICS.587/.431] but first time with floating widgets effects was w/o this mod.

i tried to unroot my htc desire hd via htcdev.com's unlock bootloader process...it was successfull..
gradual steps/mistakes...
1. installed clockworkmod from playstore
2. tried to access superuser...but there was some issue with that..
3. when i restarted my phone using vol- key and power button i entered into hboot mode, from where i enter clockworkmod...
4. full wiped the phone, cache and everything that was given in instruction of icecold sandwich..
5. icecold sandwich was there in sd card as zip file....so i chose the "install zip from memory card option"..
6. then there is message of installation completed..

Galaxy Nexus
Android Version: 4.2.2
Steps to reproduce the problem:
- plug in headset
- lock screen
- press headset button for several seconds
What happened:
- No reaction, Google Now / Voice Actions not launched
- Manually unlock screen
- Long press with unlocked screen correctly launches Voice Search
What you think the correct behaviour should be:
Long press of headset button should launch Google Now / Voice Actions even with locked screen. Having to dig the phone out of your pocket in order to launch Voice Actions with a headset e.g. to place a call kinda defeats the purpose of using Voice Actions in the first place.
Adding insult to injury: long press is not broadcast to other applications because of Google Now, so it can't even be put to good use e.g. as volume control.
This was open and ignored by code. [URL]... Issue 48616

I have rooted my Desire. Now want to get the FroYo update. I know this can be done by flashing a ROM or can I get the OTA update if I go to phone>software update? But 100s of questions...
1. How do I get the official ROM from HTC? (Is official ROM called stock ROM?)
2. What are the differences between leedroid rom or Modaco rom and official ROM
3. I also want the A2SD feature. Would this be available on leedroid or modaco rom? What is the partitioning to do with this?
4. If something goes wrong, can I revert back to old version?
5. I took backup of all my data and apps using Titanium and my backup. But what is nandroid?
6. Most of my backup is stored on my SD card so if a full wipe is needed (what is full wipe and how do i do it?) will I lost all my information, settings and apps?
And I dont understand most of the features listed under different ROMs. Do I need to be aware of them?
Also with the new custom ROM will I get the OTA updates in the future without waiting for the official release by the career?
I probably will have more questions but will be really grateful if I could get the answers for the above. I thought development with the android devices are user friendly but they sure arent if you are just a basic end user like poor me.

Have a Desire running stock Vodafone 2.2 at the moment. Made a gold card a few months back (a day before before Voda got their act together with their unbloated 2.2) and now finally got round to rooting it last week (unrevoked) and have been looking around for a rom to flash since then.
Have a couple of questions around apps built into roms :
1) Stripping built in apps, does it make more space for your own apps? Seem to remember reading somewhere that it doesn't - different partitions or something. I'm sort of toying with a Sense rom but wondering if the space saved with a vanilla rom has any real point. Space is my priority for rooting - a2sd+ is the only reason I'm doing it to be honest (okay apart from an insatiable desire to tinker). Is this just a performance thing?
2) Apps added into the rom - lots have Ti Backup etc. I assume there's little point unless the app doesn't get updated much or you don't mind flashing a new version often? An update from the market will just go into user space.

I have the HTC EVO 4g and used the unrEVOked method to ROOT my phone. I got ROM Manager and Titanium Backup Pro for all my backup/flashing needs. I downloaded cyanogen mod 6.0 (stable release I believe) and when I approve the phone to go ahead and backup/wipe my phone, it just goes to the bootloader screen. No code runs down, nothing happens. I rebooted and I still have the same ROM installed, the froyo 2.2 ROM. Any suggestions to where I went amiss? Also if I'm using the incorrect lingo sorry, I'm new to hacking phones and such

I've rooted my Desire, and am currently using the deFrost FroYo ROM.I'm trawling through and looking at different ROM options.I currently have all of my applications installed on the SD Card.If I take out the SD Card with the installed apps, and use a 'fresh' SD card to flash the new ROM, will putting the original SD card in the phone retain all of the apps and just work 'as is'? Or do I still need to back them all up somehow?

I am roooted and currently running CM6.1, loving the speed and the extra battery life. I now however want to get my apps to run on my SD card, I am think of using darktremor to do the job but wonder if someone could help with some questions.
Will the partitioning of the card and formatting it wipe the Goldcard section of the SD card?
Do I need to put all the stuff I take off the SD card back onto it, I want the music and photos back on but there is a lot of stuff hung over from when I installed every app on the market?
Reading through everything I can find it seems like a 512mb partition seems about right, I believe there is a swap and cache part involved, any ideas on what to make these?

I'm running a branded Vodafone desire with software 1.24. I am trying to debrand by flashing the rom and then updating to froyo. I have created the working gold card but when I run:
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed
It starts the update but then I get a usb connection error (171) and I then have to disconnect, take the battery out and boot to recover my phone. Has anybody encountered this and is there anything i can do get around this? My original only slightly branded desire died by drowning and this is what the insurance company gave me as a replacement! Ooh forgot to say I am running windows 7 x64.

Given the number of little bugs and issues being reported with 2.2, I'm actually a bit wary of installing it on my phone.
I have an Orange phone which I debraded by flashing the generic ROM. I was wondering - if I install 2.2 and then don't like it, can I revert back by re-flashing the original generic ROM again or won't the installer let me "downgrade" like this?

Well I decided to have a play and rooted my phone using the unrevoked method. All quite painless.
I flashed a version of DeFrost (2.2) and had a play, but encountered a couple of problems.
So I flashed 2.3 when is became available.
Then I haf problems with battery drain. Since then there have been a number of new releases of DeFrost - pretty much every day.
So I decided to restore my Nandroid backup and stick with the stock ROM until things settle down a bit.
Having done this, I can no longer get into recovery. The phone hangs on the Pink Circle screen and I have to pull the battery.
So has restoring the Nandroid backup which was made using the ClockWorkMod Recovery destroyed the recovery flash, and is that what you would expect or has something bizarre happened to me.
Just curious as I assumed that once the Recovery was on there it would stay there.
It's no big deal as I'm sure it will be just as easy to go through the rooting process again.

I'm constantly flashing new ROM's my end to try and find one that suits. As I'm sure you're all aware, most of them say "Use this Radio for best results". I've stuck with a previously flashed radio for the last few ROM's. I'm about to flash Defrost 6.0. The literature surrounding the ROM says to use a specific Radio to get the camera to work.
My hesitation is this - I've read that trying to flash the same radio version as the one you already have flashed can brick the phone? Is this true? If so, how do I find out which radio version I have?
