HTC Desire :: Cannot Get Past Start Up Screen
Jul 30, 2010
I had DJ Droid installed on my desire and I was trying to unroot it and put a stock 2.1 rom on so I could put Froyo OTA once it was released but I didn't get very far!I formatted my spare card sd card and wanted to make a new gold card as out of the two I used I wasn't sure which was the gold card.Whenever I turn on my phone it hangs on the HTC start up screen.I can hold power and volume down and get into HBOOT, go to recovery, volume up and get to Android system recovery <2e> Apply update.zip and it says No Such File even though I put it on but I may of wiped the partition during all this which has removed this file.When I try to mount the micro sd using an adapter and look at the files on it it says 'You need to format the disk in drive G:before you can use it.This happens for both cards. I try to format them but they both fail Anybody ideas apart from leave things how they are in future!

Have just got my HTC Desire. I switched the phone on for the first time and it's stuck on a screen with a green icon on. The icon is a down arrow with two arrows going around in a circle. What am I supposed to do here? I've pressed on the screen and held for a few seconds, pressed and held each of the buttons and no response. Not even the power button works.

I just used the pc36img.zip from the how to guide on rooting. It apparently worked this time but now I'm stuck at the boot screen. I suppose I have no ROM now? Where can I get one and what do I do with it. if that is indeed the problem?

My Huawei Activa 4g was rooted and all was well. I went to change the DPI with the DPI Modded app from the play store, and its all screwed up now. I can't get past my lock screen, it only shows the clock and the emergency call button. I can't swipe the dots, and they aren't just invisible. I was dumb and deleted my backup.

I seem to have a charging problem with my new HTC desire - I only got it today. Basically when i opened the box and set up the phone the battery charge level was at around 25% full. Im in the UK but i got the phone from the US over ebay, so it didnt come with a UK mains adapter however i have an ipod mains-USB charger (that the USB cable plugs into) which i thought would charge it up by using the USB cable that came with the phone and plugging it into the ipod charger.So i plugged it in and the LED light lit up orange on the phone and the animation came on showing that it was charging so i turned the phone off, but when i checked and turned it back on after a few hours of the phone being plugged in it was still at 25% battery when i unplugged it.I assumed it didnt work because i used the ipod charger so I tried charging with just the USB cable plugged into my computer with the phone turned off, a few hours later its still at 25% charge. It hasnt gained any battery charge past 25% (it did loose battery when i had it unplugged but only charged back up to 25%)Does anybody have any ideas on what the problem is, is it because of the charger im using with it being US? I just bought a UK HTC official charger from the internet so I hope that will work.

My HTC Eris' battery went dead last night. I plugged it into the charger and tried to restart it, but it won't go past the Verizon Wireless screen. I've tried removing the battery numerous times, but it still won't go past that screen. Any suggestions?

Well, I've been noticing a few more problems with my eris as of late (if you want to know the others look at my post history)I've been unable to get past the lock screen to display sometimes. I just got off the phone with a friend, it was a long call as the phone/battery had heated up a bit. Now, everything with the phone seemed to be okay, I went and pulled up the HTC battery widget and was around 34C. I've seen it get this high before and had no problems. Now, I locked the phone and a few minutes later I tried to unlock it. The unlock screen would display but the touch screen wouldn't not receive any of my input. The Menu button did not work either. I could push the end button time and again and the display wound turn on and off, but no touch input ever worked. I just had to do a battery pull to get into my phone.
I've also been noticing inside TaskPanel that the amount of available memory steadily declines even if no programs are running. I have mostly sense programs ignored and I've included timerriffic and beautiful widgets as they are always running and need to be so they will function. (beautiful widgets I just purchased yesterday and I've had this problem for a week or two) If I do successfully get past the lock screen the phone will be extremely slow and TaskPanel will report something like 20 megs of available memory, with no applications running. If I restart the phone I'm usually fine. I think it is happening around the 13-14 hour mark of my phone being turned on.
I'm assuming something is hogging up my phone and I just can't tell what it is. I don't have very many 3rd party applications installed. They are closed immediately after I'm done with them except for beautiful widgets and timerriffic. I've had timerrific since the 2nd day I've owned my Eris and it's never been a problem (not to say an update didn't hose it)Anyone have similar problems? Anyone think of anything that could be causing this? [side note: I did notice a few weeks back my exchange calendar was freaking out and draining my battery, but deleting and resetting up my exchange email fixed that and it doesn't seem to be a problem now]

I'm quite worried I soft bricked my phone. I am new to a rooted android device. I am more used to an unlocked windows mobile. Here is what I did...
I rooted my handset using blackwofls guide, it worked perfectly. I then installed adfree android from the market, it also worked perfectly. After that, I went and got font installer, it installed like any other app, opened fine. I chose a font I wanted to use, previewed it, and installed it.
It had prompted me to reboot for the font to take effect. After rebooting my phone will no longer go past the AT&T splash screen. I am very worried since I do not know how to fix it, I don't have a backup of my ICS of any sort. I can however get into ODIN and the recovery mode of clockwork.
I reset my cache and data numerous times, and i did a factory reset, It just sits at the splash screen and vibrates often.

My friend gave me this tablet because he couldn't get it to work, and now I'm trying to fix it. I'm pretty sure he tried to root/install google apps on it, but not exactly sure what he did and did not do.
I started by trying to just reset the firmware by booting into recovery and choosing a factory install. It was not able to do it because of an error reading the cache files. There was also an option to reset the cache files, but this threw the same error. Because of this, I also cannot install from an SD card. Along with this, USB debugging had not been enabled, so I can't use ADB to sideload a new bootloader or firmware onto it.

I went to reboot my Droid because it was lagging a little and when it came back on it go stuck at the Cyanogen boot screen. I pulled the battery, put it back in and held the X to boot in recovery and my recovery won't come up either. It just skips right to the Motorola M and if it doesn't get stuck there it goes back to the Cyanogen screen.
I haven't made any changes to the phone at all so I am completely puzzled on why this is happening. I obviously can't take it back to Verizon since its rooted so if there is a way to fix this I really want to because I love my phone and my wife will kill me if it is screwed up.

Had a wi-fi problem on my htc desire for a while now..
One time I went to turn wi-fi on and it just said "Unable to start wi-fi". It had worked totally fine up until that point.
I've tried doing a factory reset, rooted, updated rom but it's still not working.
When the problem happened I had not rooted the phone or changed anything really.. it just happened.
In logcat it says:
CODE:..................

I hope this is the right place to post this.I am using an HTC Desire running Android 2.2 from the Telus OTA update.I wanted to see the OS without the Sense UI so I went through Settings/Applications/Manage Applications select 'All' selected HTC Sense and hit the 'Clear defaults' button, it did nothing when I went back to the home screen, so I went back and 'hit 'Force stop' the phone restarted but was still using the Sense UI so I shut it down and tried to restart it immediately after the screen went black.The phone then vibrated 4 times in a row and did nothing. After that the phone would not start. The only thing I could do was remove the battery for a few seconds put it back in then start the phone up. Now I find the phone has an issue where if I don't give it a few seconds after shutting down it will do the 4 vibrates and then do nothing.The 'Clear defaults' option in the Sense UI is now always blocked out so I can not select it.Has this happened to anyone else? Is the vibrating then becoming a paper weight an issue due to the Sense UI issue or is that normal because I may not be giving it enough time to shut down or something?

Funny topic maybe, but I feel like I have a decent hold on app development, widget development, and even made a game. I'd like to tinker with creating a home screen replacement but havn't been able to dig up any examples or good places to start. Does anyone have any recommendations or links that might help out?

If you are on 1 of your 7 home screens other than the middle (main?) one, and you press power, then press it once again and proceed to unlock the phone, does Android still have up the last home screen you were on or does it automatically return to the middle one?

My app has a splash page on startup, during this time it will connect to a server and download a file, once the download is done a 3 second timer will start then the main page of the app will load.
However, due to crappy connection in my workplace, the download can sometimes take a while, during this a black screen will show until the download is done, then the splash page and timer will start. What I want to know is why the splash page will not display over this black screen?
Code:
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.splash);
[Code]....

I received my Desire on Saturday, I'm not very happy with the battery performance at all so far. All automatic updates are off and 3G/Wifi disabled. Yesterday I unplugged it at 0630 (at 100% battery), and despite very little use it was totally drained by 4pm. Today I haven't used it at all (as a test) and it looks like it's only going to be fractionally better. When I check the Battery stats for today 'Cell Standby' is at 74% and 'Phone idle' is at 18%. My question is, 3 days into ownership is this poor performance normal or do you think there's a problem with the battery?

Is this possible? Many times my phone is in a holding frame of some kind (cars) and the button on the side isnt easily accessed. Is there an app or a way that a simple tap on the screen can activate the phone instead of requiring pushing the button on the side?

My desire was taking approx 40mins to power down so I installed an task killer to show me what was running in the back round. I was astounded approx 25 apps were continually running in the backround so by killing these apps powering down now only take 15secs max. However, ive become a bit obsessed with this task killer. i keep checking what is running and there are things on there that i have never used such as "you tube", "news" "talk" etc. Could someone please point me in the right direction about how i stop these apps from running without me requesting them too? I know a lot of say task killers are not essential but it has certainly shown me the reason why my desire was running so slowly. Also one more thing, after powering off my phone, when restarting, ALL the apps automatically start running then? Is there a startup menu that can be editted for example?
