General :: Android Playlists - Editing / Managing Outside Music App
Jun 11, 2012
I've been having some playlist issues... I've got one that I made and one that keeps reappearing, that I started to make at some point but lost (or, thought I lost). I can delete it, but it will come back eventually. Also, is there an easier way to edit playlists than within the music apps? e.g. on the computer, in a text editor or something?

Is there a way to manage playlists from the pc without having to sync with a seperate program like doubletwist or mediamonkey. I just want to manipulate playlists without having to worry about keeping 14gb of mp3s on my pc.

There is an annoying playlist on my Nexus 5 on Play Music app. It is under Auto Playlists and is called "Last added". I can't seem to delete it, which is annoying. I don't know if these auto playlists will go away after some time by themselves, but if not, do any of you know how to delete the playlist?
Btw, I used iSyncr to transfer my music from Mac to phone, and I didn't have that playlist before.

I think I'm going in the reverse direction of most people here, but my lapper hard drive died and took my itunes library with it. However, I have a backup of the music and playlists to Google Music and I'm using the Music Manager software to download my library back to my new PC.
My question is this...how can I get my Google Music playlists download to my PC and then synced to my new iTunes?

how to avoid duplicates in Google Music playlists? Since signing up for All Access, I've been adding tons of songs. It's real easy to add songs after you've already added them before.

What is the best way to sync iTunes music? I've been using DoubleTwist but it is just not working these days (especially after ICS update). I sync it and sync it and Playlists never appear. So I need something else. I'm mostly concerned about a Smart Playlist I have for podcasts, which would not sync with Google Play. So frustrating dealing with Doubletwist. I have Droid Bionic.

I've noticed that despite having only four or five playlists on Google Music (desktop) my phone shows a bunch - mostly ones from albums I've downloaded. They don't show up in the browser version on my desktop so it looks like the only way to get rid of them is to manually delete every single one via the phone app.
Also, I've noticed that when I switch the settings to "on device only" my playlists created on the web page no longer show up, despite me having the majority of the songs on my microSD. I remember I used to be able to switch to "on device only" and the cloud playlist would scale down to only what I had on local storage. Was so....logical! Is there any way I can still do this? My microSD music is pretty much pointless since I don't have access to the playlists when I'm using "on device only".

I have downloaded all of my music onto my phone because streaming it out of the cloud used about a gig in 3 days. One of the issues is that I could not find a way to download the playlists I had created in google music onto the phone. So, I created playlists on my phone, made sure all of my music was set to be on the device. As soon as I made a playlist on my phone it immediately began downloading those songs out of the cloud.

I copied my music directly across from my computer to the memory card via a card reader, before putting the memory card into the phone. There were already some music tracks on the phone (not sure if they were from T-Mobile or HTC) so I put them in the same directory.
My albums are organised into folders, and the cover art for each album is stored in the album's folder as "folder.jpg" (which is based on how my desktop media player works). However, the music player app on the phone doesn't pick up the cover art.
Oddly, it did pick up on one album - this wasn't stored as "folder.jpg" but "leftrightleftright.jpg" (leftrightleftright is the name of the album). Trying this on another album doesn't seem to have done anything, though I admit I haven't searched for a "rescan memory card" option. Digging around the card, I've found the cover art for the songs that came with the phone in a different folder with numbered names.
What's the easiest way of sorting this out? I'd like to avoid using HTC software on my desktop if possible because a. I don't use Windows much and b. I don't want yet another program to handle my music!

Is there an application for my PC that will allow me to create playlists and then sync them to the phone? I have tried an aplication called Double Twist that is SOOOO slow to sync with my existing itunes library and then when it syncs with the phone it does not put all the files on the sd card. For example i tried to sync a playlist with over 1000 songs but only got 93 on the phone, go figure! An application on the same lines as double twist would be awsome if it worked. I dont like Windows Media Player so i'm trying to avoid tht route.

I am new to the Sprint and the Moment scene and was wondering if someone could maybe explain how to organize my ringtones and music better than how it is done now. I can connect the phone to the pc just fine and mount/unmount and copy files and such. What is bothering me is how the songs list in the player and under ringtones, seems all list the same in both places, I made a playlist, but I don't want my songs listing as ringtones. Anyone know how to do this better? Also, how to make it read the song tags info as well.

I have tried the stock player, Doubletwist, 3cube music players and methods to get music and playlists onto my EVO. Doubletwist was the only one that worked but it is too slow! It takes almost an hour to sync 500 mb's of music to the phone! I tried itunesmywalkman and that was just as bad! The end result is I just want to be able to put my playlists from iTunes on and off my EVO and have a GOOD music app actually read and populate my playlists! I'm pretty tech savvy and I can't figure this out! BTW, i'm using an iMac and I have over 40,000 songs.

I've searched the web, and the androidforums, and haven't found anything about this, so I figured I'd give it a shot here. About 2 or 3 weeks ago the Music app just stopped reading playlists right. Music can see all the play lists, it just can't find any of the songs. All the files are still there, and oddly, double twist can still read the play lists fine, and get to music. Has anyone run into this, or had any ideas on what could be causing it?

I've been working at adding music, and installed iSync to pull playlists and tracks from iTunes (other computer software is not an option as the wife LOVES iTunes and her iPod.)Than being said, the iSync program is easy-to-use and nice, but I'm finding that the EVO's music app is taking its own sweet time to recognize the tracks from the SD card.I can wait, but my fear is that it will need to do this each time I launch the app? Is this the case, or is it a one-time thing?Any suggestions on other ways to manage music and playlists on the EVO?

I've tried several different methods for getting one of my iTunes playlists moved to the Eris but I'm having a difficult time. I finally just dragged and dropped a bunch of music over but how do I organize that into a playlist? Do I have to do it from the Eris itself (which involves adding every single song, one by one)? I have tried mounting the SD card and creating a playlist folder under the main music folder but that doesn't seem to work. The playlist is already created on the Eris and I moved a few songs over for testing, but when the card is mounted to the PC I can't find how the playlist is stored.....am I making any sense? Sure hope so.

Is there a way to sync music and also PLAYLISTS onto the Hero? I know I can easily drag-n-drop files onto my Hero's SD card, and also use programs like MediaMonkey or Windows Media Player to sync music, but I can't seem to sync playlists. I have to manually create playlists on the Hero music app on the phone, and that is a pain.

I have 9 GB of music, most ripped from full abums I own. But the rest is in downloaded or copied songs. The problem is that these downloaded songs are sometimes misspelled, mislabled, the genre & other info isn't filled in at all, and or the album info is missing or incorrect. The result with a great audio player app like "3" (my favorite so far) is that I might have 35 Tom Petty songs, but because album info is missing on so many of them, the app has them dispersed among 22 different albums! Very annoying. (This happened after telling "3" to search for album art.) Then there's the "Unknown Atrist" catagory where I'll no doubt find another stray TP song, etc. What I'm looking for is another app that gives me a GUI that allows me to edit all of the tag data for music files in my library. Preferably it should have a search function so that I could type in "Tom Petty", for example, and all songs by him would come up so I could comb through and edit data for each one I choose,

I think this has to be a problem with the SD card and scanning it, but for some reason after syncing my phone, plugging it into the computer to charge, or even plugging it in to charge in the car, my music playlists seem to be duplicating all the time. I have loaded my playlists using Doubletwist (Slower than hell freezing over), I have tried Doubletwist, Mixzing, Cube, and Zimly and all have shown some or all of the duplicates. I have had it with Mixzing because of this, but the others seem to be doing it as well, just not as much. I have actually had up to 6 copies of the same playlist at one time. There is still only 1 music playlist that has songs in it, but there are 2, 3, or up to 6 copies for some reason. Another strange thing is the original actual playlist has each word starting with Capitals, but the copies are are small case. I've looked all over my SD card to see if I can find where these "phantom" playlists are stored, but I haven't found anything yet.
Also, after that stupid Froyo update, my phone won't allow me to play anything from the SD card when it is plugged in. Yes, I have tried changing the setting from Charge only to all of the other 3 options at one time or another, but in my car, it refuses to allow access to the SD card when plugged in regardless of what I do or what setting I have changed. Not impressed with the Froyo update AT ALL! This morning my SD card decided to lose all of my videos that were on it (5 GB worth) and about 1/3 of my music. I have no idea where they went, but they are gone. This phone was awesome in most every way until that stupid update, I wish I could go back to 2.1! My Pandora sucks now, my Multi-touch keyboard won't work anymore, I lost a whole bunch of files off my SD card as mentioned above, and I haven't noticed a single benefit other than my camera opens quicker now.

Unless I am entirely missing something (which is certainly possible), I can't seem to easily create a playlist based on all music in a *folder* using the stock music player. I have to select each song one-by-one out of a list of all my songs on the phone, which is tedious and time-consuming. If I'm missing it, please let me know. In the meantime, I downloaded a very basic player called "Player." It does allow you to create playlists based on all music in a folder.
When you navigate to a music folder and select some or all of the music in the folder to play, "Player" creates a temporary playlist with all of the music selected. NOTE: A message pops up saying ONE song has been added to the playlist, but this is incorrect (unless you've only selected one to play). If you've chosen multiple or all of the songs in the folder to play, it actually creates the playlist with all the selected songs in it. Since the playlist created is a temporary playlist, so you must go into the "playlist" area to rename it to what you want. If you don't, then the next time you select a folder to play music from, it will likely overwrite the first temporary playlist with the new one.
It's actually very, very easy (much easier than scrolling through to select each song). The playlists created by "Player" automatically show up in the stock music player as well and can be played there. One negative to "Player" is that it appears to display the wrong album art. If that's a big deal, then simply revert to the stock player and run your playlists from there. I realize there are other music apps in the markets, so this wouldn't apply if you prefer one of those, obviously.

I'm looking for an App which allows efficient control of the 'Restrict background data' checkbox on a per-App Basis.
In ICS today I can navigate
Settings -> Data Usage -> "someAPP"
And then check/uncheck the 'Restrict background data' checkbox to make the data traffic explicit for me: If I don't use "someAPP" I can expect that there is no background data traffic generated by "someAPP" (no extra cost in roaming mode).
I do have some apps (e.g. a pushmail app for company mails) which I always want to allow the use of background data in order to get my mail.
Other's (e.g. use of gmail, G+, etc.) I want to toggle the behaviour very quickly:
If I'm in 'roaming' mode: disable, if in my home-network with flat cost: enable.
This is the reason I can't use the 'Mobile Data' switch.
Today I navigate as shown above, which is cumbersome and likely to be incomplete. I think of an app, where you can compose a list of apps (from the installed ones) and enable/disable 'restrict background data' for apps on this list with one click.
