General :: Add Custom Buttons (shortcuts) To Tablet System Bar

Apr 12, 2012

Most of the tablets with android 3+ have this large black bar at the bottom. I'm not sure how it is called but I mean this bar where the clock, back and home button and the notification icons are on.

On the middle area of this bar there is always much space depending on the number of notifications on the right.

My idea was to use this space for shortcuts to apps or tasker tasks. Just like in windows the Quick Launch Toolbar on the task bar.

But until now I haven't found any solution.

Here is what I have:

I'm using tasker scenes to build my own shortcut buttons. Then I displayed these buttons as always on top and half transparent directly on the screen in the normal application display area. It seems that tasker is not able to display these buttons over the system bar. So this isn't a complete solution of my problem since the free display space on the bar is still not in use.

On the other hand I do know that it must be possible to program apps which are overlayed on the system bar since other apps can be placed over it.

Anyway... I'm searching for a clean solution to get shortcuts on the system bar to start apps or tasker tasks with one click or touch.

General :: Custom Sized Shortcuts (NOT Widgets) With Apex Launcher

Mar 28, 2012

I'm redoing my home screen, and I want to have a few text icons that take me directly to specific home screens. Apex launcher has action shortcuts for this, but they are only 1x1. I cannot use widgets to get these actions... I have to use shortcuts. I have done what I want with 1x1 shortcuts, but they are just too small for my taste. I really want 2x1 shortcuts. I have not been able to figure out how to make them with either Simple Text or Desktop Visualizer.

General :: Automatic Clearing Cache And Changes To Files And System For Tablet Shared To Public

Mar 21, 2014

I'm looking for a method or an application for android tablet, which allows me to quickly reset the device deleting any data (from the Internet cache, and the cache to the photos of the various programs such as facebook, twitter etc ...) and that does not allow any modification of the operating system. I need this solution because I have a restaurant and I want to put a tablet on each table for guests to make him see the menu (full of photos and videos), surf the internet and play with the kids.

is there an app that allows this? or is there a quick way to do this, such as a multiaccount management ? I remember, for example, that for windows there are applications that completely erase any unauthorized modification, files and cache, at the time you restart the operating system.

General :: HKV Android Tablet - Flash Custom Recovery?

Mar 13, 2013

I just purchased a cheap 9.7" Android Tablet, Model AM09-D2. It came with ICS 4.0.4, has 16Gb ram and a dual core Cortex A9 CPU. I would like to know how I go about backing this thing up. It is rooted and has absolutely no blootwear installed. Is it possible to flash a custom recovery. Like TWRP or CWM to save a image of the rom. I have already did a data and app backup with Mybackup Pro. Now I would like to backup the Rom and maybe do dump. Is it possible and if so how? Not really that comfortable with ADB/fastboot, truthfully I don't understand what the difference is. I already have drivers setup for Samsung Galaxy Nexus on my Win 8 notebook. Will installing ADB/fastboot screw things up?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Create Custom Icons For Folders Or Add Shortcuts Into App Organizer Groups

Feb 11, 2010

How to - create custom icons for folders or add shortcuts into App Organizer Groups

I've been playing around with the App Organizer, and been putting things into folders. However, I am trying to do a few things.

Add shortcuts into the groups App Organizer creates, and/or create custom icons for Folders I put on the Home pages.

For example, I have 6 mail accounts (don't ask) and want to put them in a group called mail. Using AppOrganizer, I can only organizer the main mail icon into the group, I want to add the 5 other shortcuts I created for each account. OR I group them into a folder, but I want to change the folder icon to an envelope.

Also, anyone know any good apps that puts email notifications on the top taskbar?

Android :: Right Way To Do Scrollable View Of Custom Buttons?

Jul 5, 2010

I've just started playing with Android in the last few days and have begun to put together a simple application. I am struggling to work out whether I'm doing things the "right" way or just making life difficult for myself.The app displays a series of connected nodes on the screen, similar to a mind-map. I want to be able to tap the nodes in order to edit them. When the map of nodes becomes larger than the screen, I need to be able to scroll on both X and Y axes as needed to see the whole map. Image of current implementation at http://ubergeek.org.uk/images/nodetest.png.Currently I don't have scrolling working, however I assume that I can do that by making the root view a ScrollView and sticking an AbsoluteLayout inside that (though it's deprecated, I wish to place objects at specific X/Y coordinates).The nodes themselves are currently each a pair of roundrects (one for the outline and one for the fill) and a drawText and are being drawn in the main activity's onDraw(). In order to make these clickable buttons I believe I need to create a custom view for the button in order to use its onClick() events. I can then create a view object for each of my nodes and add them to the AbsoluteLayout view.Does this sound like a reasonable way to do it in Android, or is this a horrible abuse of the API?

Android :: Implement A Custom Listview Row With Buttons?

Oct 8, 2010

I have an ExpandableListView that I want to populate with my custom views of type NoteView. NoteView extends LinearLayout and contains two buttons and a checkbox. I have almost everything working, the NoteView's are being populated with backing data, the lists are getting filled, and the buttons are clickable and perform the required tasks.

The problem is the ExpandableListView no longer responds to click/longclick/keypress events at all (other than selecting list items with trackball/DPAD).

I replaced my custom view with a standard TextView and the touch events flowed normally again, so it is almost certainly something I am doing wrong with my custom view or some obscure ListView setting I am overlooking.

Here is my NoteView code and XML Layout. What am I missing?

Android :: How To Create A Custom Control / Buttons Inline?

Dec 22, 2009

I have a need to create a control similar to UITabBar in iPhone, which is to be present on every activity of my application. UITabBar essentially is a battery of buttons exhibiting a TAB like behavior: every button maps to an activity. I have two solutions for this: 1. In the layout XML for every activity, I insert a <LinearLayout><Button/><Button/><Button/></LinearLayout> element. And then have a common listener class that will handle the button clicks. So, every activity will have an instance of this listener. 2. To create a custom Widget extending LinearLayout class, put all the buttons as its static members and let it handle the button clicks. Include this custom control in every screen. I am not sure which approach to follow.

HTC EVO 4G :: Current System Back Up And Installing Custom ROM

Jul 25, 2010

I've read through the step-by-step here, and while I've found it to be the clearest set of instructions I've encountered, I still have a couple points of confusion. It sounds like by the time I get to the end of Section 2 (version 1) I will have a custom ROM installed (2Q). Now I've used Titanium Backup (I used the pre-OTA Unrevoked for su) to back up apps/data/settings. But I'm not sure what that gets me. What if I want to revert the phone to exactly how it is now? A Titanium Restore would restore apps/data/settings into the custom ROM loaded in 2Q correct?

It appears my answer is in Section 3, item 3D (NAND backup). But at what point do I do Section 3? If I've already gone through Section 2, my current ROM is overwritten by the custom ROM loaded in 2Q, so it's too late to back it up, right? Perhaps I'm making this more difficult than it needs to be, and I'm usually not a complete idiot about technology! But I'm having trouble getting my arms around some of these concepts. I see a lot of instructions saying "do this, do this, do this", but very little explanation what's actually happening when I do these things, and why I'm doing them, so I'm failing to grasp how the various pieces and actions are fitting together.

Android :: Receiving System Intents With Custom Broadcast Receiver

Jul 16, 2010

I am attempting to listen for system fired Intents, specifically regarding text input, using a class extending BroadcastReceiver. I see there is an Intent called ACTION_INPUT_METHOD_CHANGED (android.intent.action.INPUT_METHOD_CHANGED) which I hope to be able to use to know when the keyboard or text input is attempted by the user. (I assume this intent will work as I can use an InputMethodManager object to handle keyboard related tasks)

My java code:
package com.BroadcastReception;
import android.content.BroadcastReceiver; import android.content.Context;
import android.content.Intent; import android.util.Log;
public class InputMethodChangedReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
@Override
public void onReceive(Context arg0, Intent arg1) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
if (arg1.getAction().equals("android.intent.action.INPUT_METHOD_CHANGED")) {
Log.d(this.toString(), "Event Fired");} } }

Android :: Possible To Write Custom Content Provider For Existing System Database?

Dec 9, 2009

Not sure of the absolute utility of this but seems as though it should be possible and useful. Can you extend ContentProvider to provide URIs representing new queries (i.e., joins across multiple tables not specified by existing URIs) for an existing system database? The alternative seems to be that I need to write a series of cursor queries then join them -- seems like a lot of unnecessary code duplication.

I have been trying this for the contacts database as an exercise, but no love so far. The crux seems to be that I cannot open a database in another package during the setup phase. Am I just completely out in left field here? It's possible as I am new to both Java and Android.

General :: Mini-shortcuts Appear On Their Own

Sep 12, 2013

I'm puzzled as to why I randomly get shortcuts added to my phone screen. They are smaller than all the other icons, and when I select them they take me to the appstore to download that specific app. These shortcuts are for apps I have not downloaded. I can't find them in my programs to remove, either.

I'm certain this is a result of another game I have downloaded, but I can't see where to shut it off. I've witnessed my phone flash something like 'Shortcut for Play Castle Crash created' while on a phone call or in another app. I'll remove it from my screen, but it'll reappear after a few hours. And if I don't remove them, they will fill all empty shortcut spots.
