General :: Impossible To Root Android Tablet - Read Only File System?

Dec 24, 2013

I have a android tablet and I have tried rooting it and I get things like "read only file system" and I looked into it and my /system is read only.. Rooting is putting .su in the xbin or bin inside of the /system. But my /system is read only so i can't root my tablet?

General :: System File Read Only?

May 31, 2013

I am trying to revive white Pandigital using ADB commands to push files on the system's folder of the device then flashing them.

The computer sees the device, adb has root access, yet when trying to push files is gives me an error indication that the system/data/midc is a read only. tried adb remount over and over with no lick. Is there any other way to get to write on the system folder?

General :: How To Read / Write Ext3 File System Image In Ubuntu

Feb 18, 2012

I developed a cramfs rom for the np7 after user dochoppy found root for the nextbook premium 7 tablet, but he then converted to ext3 which because its packed with features will be more popular. So I am trying to edit his ext3 rom in Ubuntu 11.10 and here is what I do:

1. Copy and paste system.img to desktop
2. Create a folder called system on desktop
3. In command prompt:
cd ~/Desktop
Sudo mount -t ext3 -o loop system.img system
(Asks for pw)
4. Doc said something about only being able to edit as root, so after some Googling I find out how to create a program that grants root.
5. (Open "run as" program) then I type "nautilus /home"
(Asks for pw)
6. Navigate to mounted system and I have read/write privileges (but only in this window)
7. View the system mount properties, and it says I have 14.2 mb free space on device
8. Delete files throughout the system folder to make room (but when I refresh properties, free space increase doesn't show)
9. Try to add my own files after deleting some others, ans rather than using the increased space, it just fills the fourteen megs before telling me "device is out of memory "

why is the system not physically making the proper system increase and decreases.

General :: Casio Commando 2.3.3 Root-impossible

Oct 7, 2011

Casio Commando users just got the Gingerbread 2.3.3 update via Verizon. With Froyo I had easily used SuperOneClick to root my Commando and assumed Gingerbread (with Gingerbreak) would be no more difficult..Gingerbreak does not work.

I've tried v1.0-.1-.2 of Gingerbreak and numerous iterations of SOC to no avail. Even retried with a factory reset.I've read that there is little support for this particular phone because of it's somewhat niche status, Have I missed an obvious method to root my newly updated Gingerbread (2.3.3) Casio Commando?

Android :: File System Root - Name Has Extra Characters

Jun 13, 2009

First I found the problem, then I found this truly ancient post:

http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa...

...with no responses. To browse the file system from the top down I suppose I can simply hardcode the root as a single slash, but I would rather "do it right". Can anyone explain why listRoots returns a root named "/XX" where X is a junk char? It's problematic because that file cannot subsequently be queried for further file system exploration.

General :: Tablet Can't Read SD In Hard Reset Mode

Feb 20, 2014

I have an ASUS TF700KL tablet that I'm trying to fix a firmware update on. The only firmware update available for this model can be downloaded from the ASUS webpage - you can't get it from the settings menu.

The unzipped file is a .raw file, so the only way I can get the tablet to update the firmware using this file is if I put it on the external SD card and make a hard reset launching from the SD card. However, for some weird reason the tablet can't see the SD card when in the boot mode. The SD is clearly visible and accessible when using the tablet.

General :: Read Default System Settings

May 3, 2012

Context: Today im investigating how works android classes:

android.provider.Settings.Secure and android.provider.Settings.System

both works over settings.db into

data/data/com.google.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db.

There is something that surprised me:

When I had never changed one of settings, for example LOCK_PATTERN_ENABLED, the method:

getString(ContentResolver resolver, String name) returned null.

By default lock pattern is disabled when i activated it, method returned 1 and then when disabled returned 0.

My question: is true that when you havent changed the value of a setting, the system goes to look for its default value out of settings.db? and is true that this value at settings.db until you change it is null?

I've read some post about it, but no one working against api. For who may be interested: [URL] .......

I decompiled Settings.apk, SettingsProvider.apk and Phone.apk. There you can find some bools.xml where are stablished default values for some settings I've not found yet every setting I need.

General :: Add Custom Buttons (shortcuts) To Tablet System Bar

Apr 12, 2012

Most of the tablets with android 3+ have this large black bar at the bottom. I'm not sure how it is called but I mean this bar where the clock, back and home button and the notification icons are on.

On the middle area of this bar there is always much space depending on the number of notifications on the right.

My idea was to use this space for shortcuts to apps or tasker tasks. Just like in windows the Quick Launch Toolbar on the task bar.

But until now I haven't found any solution.

Here is what I have:

I'm using tasker scenes to build my own shortcut buttons. Then I displayed these buttons as always on top and half transparent directly on the screen in the normal application display area. It seems that tasker is not able to display these buttons over the system bar. So this isn't a complete solution of my problem since the free display space on the bar is still not in use.

On the other hand I do know that it must be possible to program apps which are overlayed on the system bar since other apps can be placed over it.

Anyway... I'm searching for a clean solution to get shortcuts on the system bar to start apps or tasker tasks with one click or touch.

General :: Automatic Clearing Cache And Changes To Files And System For Tablet Shared To Public

Mar 21, 2014

I'm looking for a method or an application for android tablet, which allows me to quickly reset the device deleting any data (from the Internet cache, and the cache to the photos of the various programs such as facebook, twitter etc ...) and that does not allow any modification of the operating system. I need this solution because I have a restaurant and I want to put a tablet on each table for guests to make him see the menu (full of photos and videos), surf the internet and play with the kids.

is there an app that allows this? or is there a quick way to do this, such as a multiaccount management ? I remember, for example, that for windows there are applications that completely erase any unauthorized modification, files and cache, at the time you restart the operating system.

General :: Huawei U8800 Ideos X5 V2.3.5 - Not Able To Mount System As Read / Write Properly

Nov 13, 2012

I'm having a problem with ES file explorer. After several days I managed to root my HUawei U8800 Ideos X5 (Android 2.3.5) and obviously one of the next steps is installing CWMR. Unfortunately I'm failing here too. I tried to copy the recovery.img to the .cust_backup/image, but it keeps to say copy failed. Root access was given and I checked all four boxes in root settings. Someone in a german forum told me to update the binarys in SU, which failed too (it says sth like copy su to /system -> failed!). I'm not even sure ES FE would work if the binarys would be current.

I already tried the app Mount /system (rw / ro). It didn't work with this too.

But if i type system/xbin/su in the terminal, the terminal receive su permission. So i thought i am close to rooting it.

Need to complete it fully. The su is 3.2 version. I used su uninstaller but of no use. Besides i have lost my ideal cwm 5.0.2. 4 zip file and its getting difficult finding a new one fitting my tab.

General :: How To Root Tablet Without Computer

Mine is a froyo 2.2.1 device (ViewSonice VB730), I tried z4root, instant root, DPRoot, and many many many rooting apk but it is not working, some of them are FC or some of them are stucking in "attempting to apply root" I tried to use SuperOneClick but since I can't find a suitable driver for it, so when I use "adb devices", the list is empty.

I also checked out about some article about how to manually root a devices with PC, seems I have to copy the necessary file first to /data then run the exploit. Since I dont have the driver, I tried to do it with Terminal Emulator and tried to grand access right of /data but failed.

cd /data/
$ ls
ls: can't open '.' : Permission denied
$ chmod 777/data
chmod: /data. Operation not permitted

What should I do
