I know this is usually done the other way round. My uni halls doesn't have wifi, instead it has an ethernet cable for every room. The problem with this is I'm using up my 3g internet on my phone a lot more and i'd like to do things like update my apps and check twitter more but i'm scared i'll run out. By plugging my phone into my laptop, is there a way to borrow the internet from my laptop for my phone?

When connecting my Evo to a computer, there is an "Internet Sharing" option. I am curious to know, does this cost extra monthly? I know the wifi tether is the extra $30 a month, but will this charge me the same?
I only have interest in rooting my phone if it's the only way to share internet with my Netbook. Wifi isn't all that important to me, and seeing as I've completely and utterly failed at doing the Unrevoked method for rooting... I'm hoping I won't actually have to root my phone after all.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy hotspot is all set up. I turn it on and I can see it from my laptop. I connect the laptop and EVO says there is 1 connection. But, the laptop connection gets no Internet access. I've tried it with and without security set up. I've rebooted. I even took the battery out and let it rest. (All of that cleared out the Error 67 on the phone but still the laptop sees no Internet.) Internet on the phone is great - even got 4G, but. What in the heck am I doing wrong? I am at school right now and forgot the name of the file it needed, but I have no idea how to do this. View 1 Replies View RelatedTry to get internet sharing up on my rickety old laptop that I use only for this purpose, its running windows 2000 and I am trying to install HTC_Sync_2.0.33. Keep getting the error message :
The operating system is not adequate for running HTC Sync.
My laptop is older but the specs are above the requirements, and according to the download info from HTC, I should be workable.
I use my laptop to go on the internet via my HTC Hero. But it doesn't seem to be very stable, I have a good connection with a H and 3 bars. But it seems to drop the connection for no reason, my previous phone a sony ericsson would just stay connected all the time, this drops it when it likes, could be 2 min, to 2 hours before i have to reconnect then disconnect then connect.
