Android :: Options To Get Push Mail And Not Poll
Oct 14, 2009Is there any options to get push mail and not poll mail. Does the application can get "imap idle" or any sms that push the message instead to poll the imap4 server each X time.

I have a question regarding push vs poll email. Is there ever a valid reason to configure polling on a push email account (ie. as a "backup" if the push fails for some reason)? In other words, if I'm currently receiving pushed email, is it completely useless and redundant to poll the folders as well? Or is it possible polling might work in the event push doesn't? I receive emergency alerts from my work so I'm just wondering if I should set up a 15-minute poll in case an alert doesn't get pushed to my phone. Or can I expect that whenever push fails, polling won't really do any good either?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm looking at 3 different apps to develop for the Android, but I'm new to the platform (come over from Blackberry - yuck!).
Anyhow - I need to know if there is some way to push data to the phone from a server. I'd prefer to avoid using SMS to push (user charges), or constantly polling the server (lets see, every 5 seconds = 12 times a minute, 720 times an hour, over 17000 a day)
Exist a really app for push e-mail? I dont care if I need Pay for it.....I NEED IT!
I tryed; K-9 , Seven, etc.etc.
As you well know, Android provides push mail just for 1 G-Mail account. I use 1 g-mail account for personal use and 1 for business, and I find the other e-mail program included a real mess....
However, a couple of days ago I heard that Google provided sync capabilities with PUSH gmail on other devices (Iphone, Blackberry -they had it already - , Symbian, and Windows Mobile).
So what I did is I took the Windows Mobile instructions found here: Google Sync : Set Up Your Windows Mobile Phone - Mobile Help
And plugged the settings into my Active Sync e-mail ("work e-mail", the one HTC included in the MyTouch 3g and puff I suddenly got push GMail for my second account as well.
Beware:
-you cannot archive like in Gmail and you will have to test the different features (does it delete from the server? do folders work?)
-as of now, only my incoming e-mail works. Outgoing e-mail acts like it's working but it doesn't send and doesn't show in the sent folder.
I just got my G1 a few days ago and was looking for mail, contacts and calendar push, not wanting to use Goo.I found this: www.interways.net.They offer all that and integrate into Outlook, Apple Macs just fine. You can even keep Windows and Mac computers and your phone all in sync.Just a tip for those of you who are interested in syncing mail, contacts and calendars online.
View 2 Replies View Relatedhow to set up Gmail through an exchange server so that you can get push email in the HTC Mail app. I obviously can't be 100% sure this works, but the folks over at XDA seem to think this is the solution for the Desire. The instructions are for a Windows Mobile Device, but all of the information you need to fill in inside the HTC Mail app should be available at the link. Hope this solves some push email problems on Thursday (or Wednesday for some of you lucky ones)! Setting Up Your Windows Mobile Phone for Google Sync: Google Sync
View 18 Replies View RelatedI am currently roaming outside my home network in the UK and cannot get Exchange Server to automatically synch. I have read countless posts on this forum and elsewhere trying to self-help before posting, but despite this one appearing to be the same issue, I have been unable to fix it.
In essence when opening Menu > Settings > Accounts & Synch > Manage Accounts / Exchange Active Sync > Account Settings I see that the option for "Sync when roaming" is not only unticked but also greyed out so I cannot enable it.
How can I fix this, please?
Note that Menu > Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile Networks > Data roaming is ticked and so is ... > Enable always-on mobile data.
I am currently on an Edge network and manual Exchange Synch works just fine but having automatic sync is more important right now that worrying about the roaming charge.
Is there a way to only set push e-mail for the Inbox folder? When I set up push e-mail for my Exchange server it wants to download the mail in all of my folders. That is over 2,000 messages.

I alsohave my yahoo account set as default. When I set it up I assume it was done properly hence the reason I can receive the mail if I refresh it myself ...are there any other settings that I may be missing?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo, after restoring my phone and re-downloading all my apps, I decided to try and use the standard Mail App instead of K-9 which I had been using. The UI is a little smoother. Anyway, I noticed that you can now have it check under 15 minutes. So I set it to 5, which is as close to "push" as I can think of. I noticed today that my battery was draining quicker than usual. Would checking every 5 minutes run the battery more than K-9's "push"? I was comfortable with K-9's push. Wondering if anyone else had this issue or thoughts on it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had my Hero for about 4 months now, and other than the battery issue (I do use it a lot) I'm pretty satisfied. However since Thursday last week, I've had the SAME phone number call me, have someone jabber at me, and then hang up! I looked up the area code, and it's in Jamaica! Today has been the worst, I've had 5 calls from that same number. Frankly its really started to get annoying. I called Sprint, and asked customer care if they can block that number from the account. And they can't do that. Apparently blocking that number is an infringement on their rights. On my Hero, I've been able to find that I can just push all those calls from that number to my voice mail, but I can't block it from my line altogether. Anyone else having the same or similar issue that has come up with another option?

I plan on disabling the sync settings for google in the main settings but that shouldn't affect an account added to the main mail app.
View 15 Replies View RelatedSoon enough I will be switching from Sprint to Verizon. From Samsung Moment to ??? I work at Bestbuy and VZW finally got good phones on their concession line. I get to choose between the HTC Incredible and the Motorola Droid 2. I think both are great phone manufactures.
My Pro's about the Incredible: Not bulky
LED indicator
1ghz processor
Cons:
No keyboard
Droid 2 Pros: Better looking then the Droid
Qwerty keyboard
possibly overclock-able to 1ghz
Cons:
Flat keyboard
800mhz processor
No LED indicator
Just out of curiosity how many people use Swype vs. Voice to Text vs. other means for text input. If I forgot a method just say it out loud.
View 4 Replies View RelatedPer the current implementation in Sensor Manager, the SensorThread is polling data per below code, final int sensor = sensors_data_poll(values, status, timestamp); it then checks the sensor type if it is registered and processes the data further. For an application which has registered for only one sensor, still to get that particular sensor data, SensorThread has to execute for atleast N-1 loop most of the time. Can anybody provide the insight as to, why SensorThread is waiting to check the sensor type to be returned by the HAL instead of sending sensor information which is currently registered by that application. Wouldn't that increase the performance?

Does anyone know to what resolution the accelerometer in the G1 is? I read about the Google Guys and an app that recorded the phone being tossed in the air, so I figured it it might have a high degree of resolution. Have a back ground app watch for sudden massive deceleration. (i.e. the sudden massive deceleration that comes when your car hits a light poll). Now assuming that the phone survives the crash, the app would then open up and try to get a GPS fix. It could also send those GPS coordinates to someone via email or sms. In addition, the application could try and "alert you", if you cannot respond because you are uncontentious, the phone could then "call" some one, and play a prerecorded message.
"This is McKiney's phone, there may have been an antecedent, the phone is located near (reads address), I am turning on the speaker phone so you can try and talk with McKinley" The phone would then active the speaker phone so the caller could try and communicate with the phone owner. The app would also read back the address at various intervals. Of course you would not want the phone calling mom to tell her that her son was dead in a car wreak because your phone was in your gym bag when you threw it on the floor in a lost-racket-ball-game rage. So the overall concept might be flawed, but it's worth a thought.
are there any apps that can notify me but dont need me to set a polling interval to check for new fb posts/twitter messages? bloo seems a bit too random as it doesnt always notify me on every notification and it seems a bit too slow compared to the official app which i like.

What do you think is the best? I'm looking for something for a beginner that has a lot of functionality (I'd like 4G, cameras, etc).
I thought it would be fun to see what people think will happen first.
