My application works fine on G1/Hero and emulators, but on Milestone text size is tiny. I have list box and text items are very small on Milestone device. What can be the cause of this?

This is my first post. I've had a Moto Droid since day one, and I just love it. It is without a doubt better than any phone that I've had over the years, and that includes the iPhone, BB, etc.
However, there are 2 things that I don't understand - Font size and a spell checker. It is imposiible to read the small font size in emails or text messages.
1. Why has there not been an app to either change the font size or be able to zoom in? Picasy has incorporated multi-touch for zooming, so I've to assume that its doable! Why not have the same in an email client.
2. Why is there not an email client out there that allows for spell checking? There are many such apps for the BB! I am a terrible speller.
I am not complaining, I just want to understand the limitations from a developers prospective, as I am sure these isuues will eventually be addressed.
I am having real issues reading anything. The icons are really small for as large as the screen is as well as some text thought the phone. Every phone I have ever owned had at least a small,large,larger even the yucky Storm I got out of I could pick larger text (point size). Anyone know if this was left out or how to fix? View 18 Replies View RelatedI'm using the FontFitTextView that was posted in this other thread, but it isn't working exactly right for me. The measureText() call is returning a number that is obviously too small to display the string. When it runs through to find a font size that will allow the text to fit, the font size it settles on is still too big. I feel like there is some other kind of padding or margin or some other invisible that is contributing the math that makes up the width which is causing the discrepancy.For example I want to set the text of my FontFitTextView to be "10,000.25".The width of my FontFitTextView is 96 pixels, with 8px padding on both sides, so my available width is 80 pixels. The call to measureText() says that the text "10,000.25" is 64 pixels wide. This means that the current font size should be small enough to display the entire string. However, when the string is actually drawn on the TextView the last 2 characters are chopped off and all I see is "10,000." instead of "10,000.25"

I added -scale 0.2 to the Default emulator option under eclipse and launched the emulator.After that I got a really small window. I then removed the -scale 0.2 but the emulator window remains small.I can start the emulator from command line and i get the normal size, but not with eclipse.Any help would be appreciated.

My problem is lets say I set my icon to 30x30 when I load the widget on the screen the Icon is the correct size but the layout itself takes up a lot more space than what is actually needed. This means that I can't really place my widget next to other icons on the screen. Its like the bounding box is 3 times bigger than the content that fills it.

I have tried wrap_content and other width/height settings but nothing seems to reduce the "Box" around my widget content. I clicked on my ATK widget and started to drag it around on my HTC Aria and it shows the bounding box around the widget and that one is the same size of the content inside same with all the other widgets on my screens.
My app uses a custom View that does a lot of text drawing.To ensure my text is always readable I've been using the result of calling getTextSize() on a newly-created Paint() instance as the minimum size. Docs say calling 'new Paint()' sets attributes like text size to default values.One of my European users just got a Motorola Milestone phone and reports that some text is unreadably small.I believe I've duplicated this using the WVGA854 skin in a 2.1 emulator.Run in that emulator my app's smallest TextViews look fine, but the text I'm drawing myself using Paint instances where I haven't changed the text size from the default is too small. I confirmed this by commenting out all setTextSize() calls in my View subclass: the text becomes too small to read comfortably.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI uploaded a couple of pics I had taken with my Evo on Androidforums and when I did I notice everyones pics in the thread were allot bigger than my pics.I had the 5.3 widescreen turned on and they told me to take it off. I did and tried taking new pics and seeing the results. The pictures did come out a a bit bigger but when I tried resizing them in photobucket the quality would be effected which makes no sense since 8m is goog enough to make a huge poster whith amazing quality.
There was also people with much bigger pics than the ones I had resized and made as big as photobucket let me and they were perfect high quality while mine which were smaller were loosing quality.
My wife and I both got Milestones about a month ago. So far so good; we're trying to keep up with the kids on technology. Anyways, we discovered we're unable to receive texts with pics, but are able to send them to iphones users (who can receive them). I asked about it at the Telus store, thinking it was a setting or something, and she said "smart phones can't receive pics by text, you have to email them". Doesn't really sound right... The choice to send a pic by text is an option in the menus, and it seems from reading the forums here that at least in the US, it's possible with the droid. So is this a Telus issue? No big deal, we're just wondering what's up. Even our daughter with a non-smart phone can send/receive pics by text.

When I increase text size, the character is no more displayed in the center of the button and the button's position gets shifted some pixels to the top (very strange).

I read that 960x854 should be the right resolution. I did with Gimp an image with that size, copied it to the sd card and set it as wallpaper. What a wonderful surprise when the android tried to crop it. So, I guess, 960x854 is not the right resolution. any insight?

I have a layout like this above textview and an image that slides down after clicking the text view. I have looked at translate animation but the issue is I want the image to start from the bottom of text view and gradually get into its full view. Translate animation doesn't let me start from behind the textview so that it can appear slowly and coming out at the bottom of text view and expanding to its fullview. I have linear layout now with textview and imageview.

Especially when looking at full page views, the text is just too small to read. Solution?
1. Press Menu in browser.
2. Press More.
3. Press Settings.
From there, you'll see Text size as your first option and then simply switch it from "Normal" to Large or Huge. I choose "Large" because "Huge" sometimes makes the text a bit weird because it resizes all of the text and any text in a very small box tends to just stick out. "Large" works just fine. Now the text, even in full page views, is readable.
I did attempt to use the search feature here but didnt come up with the results I was looking for (or maybe I used it wrong?) I ask the following questions because unfortunately, I dont have good eyesight.
1. Regarding font size. I realize there is no current setting for font size on this phone (that I know of) does anyone here know if the upcoming 2.1 update will include that?
2. I know there is a text size option for the browser. However, it doesent seem to work on most websites I go to (like CNN for example) I try setting it at different sizes and nada. So far my browsing experience hasent been that good because of this (having to constantly strain my eyes looking at website text) Any tips on why the text size option doesent seem to work?
3. is there anyway to increase the text size of emails and text messages?
I was looking at the Captivate and the iphone4 in store today and when comparing the same web pages in full page view the text on the Captivate was much smaller than the iphone4, even though the iphone screen is smaller. Zoom just made everything bigger so it wasn't in full page anymore. Is there a way to make the text bigger while in full page view? On a side note, that iphone4 screen is super sharp for text and the whites were much whiter vs the blueish tint on the Captivate.

the current size of the text in the listview is large. and i cant seem to figure out how to change the text size.
Me and my brother both just imported new phone, me the milstone and him the nexus. Im pretty new to android, but isn't 2.0 and 2.0.1 supposed to have speech to text? I installed text to speech and it works, but when i go to run something that uses stt (like in handcent) it just says "rencognizer not present." This forces me to zig-zag right and left to read text on a page, rendering the web browser near unusable. I've tried chaning the text size or default zoom levels but nothing works: it's like viewing an image version of the webpage.Is this bug particular to the Milestone?
