Motorola Droid :: Wifi Tethering Options
Feb 21, 20101. Can I password protect my droid like i could with a normal router? (WEP or something to that affect?) and
2. will verizon notice extreme usage of bandwith on my data plan from tethering too much? Supposedly our data plans are limited to 5gb a month even though they say its 'unlimited'. I don't think I'll use it all that much because i'll only use it in the event that I really need it and have no wifi access.
LG Ally :: Tethering Options - Having No Internet Connection
Oct 9, 2010I just got an Ally and so far am happy with it. I have a hunting club where I only get cell phone service, no internet connection, so I downloaded Easytether and am actually using it right now and it works great. My question is, I only get service in one of the rooms to use it and would like to use it in the living room. Is there anyway to do this? Do they make a longer usb/ally charger so I could leave my phone in the room and take the computer in the living room? It doesn't seem like easytether offers bluetooth. I tried bluetooth on pdanet but cannot get it to work b/c it's too confusing for me. I can get my device pair and connected but it only connects for media/phone and won't connect when I try to dial up from computer. Ok that's long enough and confusing enough for yall.

Nov 17, 2010I've just noticed that I no longer get a notification of "Charge Only" in the top bar when I plug my HTC in to my PC via the USB cable!
I've gone into the settings for "Connect to PC" and it doesn't matter what I select, I still cant connect to use "HTC Sync" or "Disk drive" and yet the orange light comes on and the battery indicator says it IS charging!
I used to have it set to charge only and if I wanted to sync or copy to the SD card, I'd just drag down the top bar that lists widget locker and my mobile internet usage and I could select it and choose what I wanted to do - only now there is nothing there to select!
I've today replaced the trial power widget with the "Widgetsoid switcher" - could that have something to do with it? - I've tried adding USB connection and USB tethering and they dont seem to work either!

Sep 7, 2010Since this is a popular program, I thought someone would be able to answer a few quick questions on this before I purchase it:
1) Is there the option to backup to the SD card (which I am assuming is where you would want your backups to go, so that you do not lose them in case you need to do a hard reset?
2) Is there an option to back up all data onto your desktop, so that if you lose your phone and need to buy a new one, all the data can be put back onto the new Droid?
3) Are there any things that you CANNOT back up with this program? Will all the apps that you downloaded from the Market get saved as well as all the data that you entered into these programs? (like will all the notes that you entered into AK Notepad be saved, as well as the program itself?)
Android :: No ADT Plugin Options Available
Nov 21, 2010I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 and installed Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo) for Java Developers along with the Android SDK. When I add the following URL into the "work With" field under Eclipse's Install New Software menu:

No plugins appear between the "Work With" and "Options" sections. I understand I'm supposed to be able to select "Developer Tools". I get nothing. I've tried linking to http vice https. Also, downloading the zip from the android dev site itself yields the same result. When I run "Check for Updates", it comes back saying nothing to update. I also ran "Test Connection" for the above URL and it comes back positive.

Aug 4, 2010I was trying to set up my options menu so that there would be 2 buttons on the 1st and 2nd row and then 1 button on the 3rd row. Here is the code I was trying to use but I'm guessing groupID argument isn't what I thought it was.

Maybe this is solved somehow with the XML Layout but I'm not really good with the layouts ;( So I managed to not get too far that way either.
Android :: Ending Call Options
Dec 15, 2009so the phone does the great thing of recognizing when you're using the phone on a call but if you hold the phone with you shoulder or just not right against your face it activates the screen and you hang up on people. does anyone know how (or if) you can turn that function off so that if you want to activate the screen during a call you have to press a button or physically activate the screen?

Jul 13, 2010I'm looking for a device that can do everything but without the phone feature (calls, text). I now this may sound weird but I already have a phone that I'm happy with. A few weeks ago, my car was burglarized and I lost my laptop, mp3 player, camera, video camera, gps navigation, gps watch. I'm looking for a device that can do everything that I've lost but won't hold me down with a phone contract.
Something sleek enough to fit in my pocket while I'm running or doing physical activity, crystal clear sound quality(very important), takes excellent pictures and video, GPS navigation for navigation and if possible(but not necessary), could track my movements like a garmin forerunner, check email over WiFi, great battery life. I've never owned a smartphone so I don't know if the features I need of the device works if I have no contract with it.
No iphones please, I don't want to be bogged down with itunes. I'm looking at Garmin-Asus Nuvifone or Droid X or Evo 4G or Nexus One(love the clean design) but I don't know if there are better options for me.
Android :: Pattern Lock - How To Set Different Options?
May 5, 2010I am not happy with the lack of locking options coming from a blackberry. This is problem I face: I am waiting for a huge page to load, or downloading something from the market and I am not interacting with the phone. I have the screen set to turn off in 30 seconds to conserve battery. Every time the screen turns off I have to enter the unlock pattern!
Here is what I would like to do:
Only lock the phone and require the unlock pattern if the phone is manually put to sleep with the power button, or if I haven't touched the phone in XX minutes. It would be great if the screen could turn off, but NOT require the lock pattern until its been off for XX minutes. How to do this for free or a cheap app? I am on an HTC Incredible.

May 13, 2010Does anyone else wish that the Android Market had sort options? I know when I browse the Market, I can filter by paid apps vs free apps. That's part-way there... I also want to be able to sort by rating/ranking (# of stars), number of times downloaded, cost, and so on. Also, carry these sort options over to the Search. It's even worse as you have paid and free apps mixed together.

As far as I can tell from my research, this has not been fixed, which is really frustrating as it's been the case since 1.5.What other options do I have? There are plenty of games on the market which use sound, so there must be something out there!

Jul 1, 2010I just switched from my old iPhone to an HTC EVO a week ago. I'm a heavy user of Google apps, including Gmail of course. My question is regarding notification options. On my iPhone, I liked that I could set up mail to only vibrate with a new message. With Android, it looks like there's a default notification sound you can set up in the "Sound and Display" phone settings. And while in the Gmail app, you can get more granular, specifying a different ringtone if you like and add vibe. But there's no option to vibe only! Am I missing something? Maybe something for a future update?

I also override onPrepareOptionsMenu and call menu.clear() and then dynamically create menus each time the menu button is pressed by the user. The application loads fine and the SurfaceView works fine as I directly draw images to it in a sleep loop. The ListView displays items and is desined to refreshed with new items. The options menu also displays once as well................................
