Im sure this has been discussed many times, but since the mobile app world is changing so rapidly, i am curios if PDA net is still the best thing going? I have been using this app for a while but the trial expired and now i cant browse https which is alot of what i use.Is there any tethering app that works like pdanet and is free?and if paid version is the only way which is the best payed tethering app?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've recently updated my Hero to 2.1 & am now unable to tether it to my laptop. It worked when I had the old firmware on the phone. I've installed the new version of HTC Sync but whenever I try to connect via the phone (after selecting internet sharing on the phone) it connects to "a network" but then the next link in the chain, a connection to the internet has a red cross through it. When I ask Windows to diagnose the fault I get the error message "DNS server isn't responding".
I'm on Windows 7 64bit if that makes a difference.
I have a Compaq laptop running windows 7 and a Desire that I want to tether (via USB).HTC sync (latest version) is installed, and I have checked with Orange who tell me my package allows this, but they don't support Android phones.I have set the phone to Internet Sharing and its all enabled. The internet works fine on the phone.The laptop recognises the phone and gives it network adaptor status, but not a lot else. I've tried to set it as a home, work or public network, but it never gets internet access. I've switched off my firewall (Dit Defender) which made no difference. The troubleshooter eventually states "The DNS server is not responding".I can't find anything on the forums, so any tips or things I'm missing?

I have a hunting club where I only get cell phone service, no internet connection, so I downloaded Easytether and am actually using it right now and it works great. My question is, I only get service in one of the rooms to use it and would like to use it in the living room. Is there anyway to do this? Do they make a longer usb/ally charger so I could leave my phone in the room and take the computer in the living room? It doesn't seem like easytether offers bluetooth. I tried bluetooth on pdanet but cannot get it to work b/c it's too confusing for me. I can get my device pair and connected but it only connects for media/phone and won't connect when I try to dial up from computer. Ok that's long enough and confusing enough for yall.

Specifically, how much is being used by Skype w/video. Also, what about using the legal poker sites, e.g. Pokerstars, U.B., Fulltilt, etc. As far as bandwidth/downloading, is safe to tether to all these sites, or is there cause for concern re: going over 5GB per month. On MyVerizon, they tell you what your up to date cell minutes for your monthly cycle are, but I don't see that for the Internet; how do you know where you stand?

The problem is that I will have, say, my laptop, or any device for that matter, connected to my Droid and I am able to maintain a steady internet connection for about a minute. After that, the tethering application reports a download speed of 0.0kbps. If I disconnect my laptop (or other device) and reconnect it, it'll start to work again, but only for about another minute. Any ideas as to why this is happening?
View 5 Replies View Relatedanyone else having this problem? using 2.1 under caulkin's kernel. it seems like I can kind of overload the phone doing too much and the mobile network connection on my phone will disappear completely. this is while downloading something that may download too fast, sometimes it happens loading .GIF images too. I'll have to restart the phone to get the internet back. this happens no matter if I'm using wireless, USB or bluetooth tethering.

I got the same error message over and over again after connecting it to my computer "Error Code 67, your PCS Vision username and password may be incorrect." I installed HTC Sync, and it still doesn't work. So, assuming to myself that tethering for just one computer would be free, I call up Sprint tech support to find out what the problem is. First person didn't know what I was talking about so I was transferred to a really nice lady who helped me reprogram the phone but that didn't work so she sent me to another woman from tech support who had me go into System Updates and select Update Profile. I did that twice while talking to her and nothing fixed the problem.I kept getting error 67.So then, I get transferred to "Advanced" tech support and I talk to a really cool guy who goes out of his way to find a loop hole, but no success. So, he explains to me that after looking at it that they don't offer the "phone as modem" option anymore to my account type, and even then it would be $15 a month to just tether one phone. He said he could add the wifi hotspot option but I told him I don't want to pay $30/month for something I only use on Saturdays and when I travel. So after a hour on the phone, I got nowhere... but then I went onto the App Store and found Easy Tether-Lite and after 5 minutes I am sitting here writing this thread. (The full version said it supports https but idk what that means and I can surf the web now).
I only have one concern now though.I'm really happy this works but i'm scared now because this App was too easy to setup. I feel like I may be charged up the ass by Sprint somehow by finding this loophole or I may get penalized. My family and I are on the Everything Data where all data is unlimited so I don't think I should have a problem but after paying $30 extra a month for data with AT&T and finding this work around i'm getting paranoid that i'm going to get a bill at the end of the month charging me for tethering. So I guess i'll see what happens, but i'm glad for now.

Android 2.3.7 device is connected to an IPv6 internet connection
Tethering is legal for your device/carrier
The ipv6-test gives 10/10 (perfect score) for IPv6 readiness for your phone, and you can access e.g. [URL] ..... using the phone itself
You want to tether to a PC using USB
Device is rooted
Is there a way to give the PC access to the phone's IPv6 internet connection?
I'm assuming that we can't give the PC a public IPv6 address, because the phone is probably only allotted one IPv6 address from the carrier; plus they might treat your plan differently or something if you try to claim another IP address (it's an unnecessary complexity)
So what we actually need to do is, to create a NAT IPv6 space on the device, just like we do for IPv4 when we tether, and provision an IP to the PC that way. Then we have to do something for DNS; I guess we can use OpenDNS's AAAA servers.
Do any of the existing tethering methods support this at all, or is this something I'd have to do manually? Also, is it possible even in theory on Android 2.3, or is it known that a newer version of Android will enable it?
What i want is my computer to use my phones connection to access the internet is this possible? i get an ad hoc connection but i cant get my computer onto the internet.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had a Galaxy Tab for 2 years, and used it, very successfully, as a wifi hotspot from May until July this year, when my laptop was suddenly not able to connect to the internet via the hotspot. It connected just fine to the Tab, and has no problems on my home wifi. The Tab was still able to connect to the internet normally, with no apparent problems.
I fiddled about a bit and thought perhaps it was a hardware problem, so bought a seconhand Nexus S. That has been working fine until yesterday, when the exact same thing has happened - the laptop can connect fine to the Nexus, but says there is no internet connection. The Nexus itself is connecting just fine.

I have been a Blackberry and Windows Mobile user for the last eight years. I am 55% sure that I want to get the Hero but I am not 100% sold. I am also considering the Pre. I know this sounds crazy, but the absolute #1 thing I need is Internet sharing and tethering capability; even more so than a phone itself. I must be able to connect my phone to my laptop, either by usb or bluetooth, and have it working in less than 30 seconds each time. I currently run Ubuntu 9.4 and Windows Vista/XP. My windows mobile phone works with all of these, and quickly.I have searched and searched but have found nothing as to wether the Sprint version is capable of thethering.

On the Speed Test app, the highest speeds I get are 1.8m/bs downloads and around 500kpbs upload. However, those were at off peak times at night etc (probably when nobody is using the net).Generally I get anything from 0.3 m/bs to 0.9 m/bs though. Lately I've been experiencing some inconsistent internet speeds and reconnection attempts so for I've gone back to the default settings. Tbh though I'm not sure if it makes much difference.
