I just set up my contacts in Outlook as I like them, and want to start fresh on my HTC Dream. I am using HTC Sync. Is there a way to delete all contacts from the device, then upload them again fresh?

I have some questions concerning importing contacts to the device, which is extremely slow.
First of all, if you delete all your contacts, google sync will restore it very quickly. However, when my app is adding contacts to the device, it's very slow (a few contacts per second). Even if I add almost empty contacts (with name only), it is a time-consuming process.
If I turn google sync off, importing 5000 contacts can take 1-2 hours (on HTC Magic). When google sync is on it can take up to 24hours. And this happens despite the fact, that application for the whole time is in the foreground, device is connected to charger and screen is on. I checked the logcat to make sure my app is adding the contacts the whole time, and it is.
I tried different methods and different devices. The results differ of course, yet manually adding contacts is always significantly slower that google sync. Is there any way that I can speed up the process? So that importing 5000 contacts will take less than an hour.
I want to delete contact list and and available emails in the device. how do i do that I have tried this for contact deletion but getting exception.

This is strange, as they all say phone contacts (thus aren't sim or google contacts or anything), but on view settings, it says I have 300 or so contacts which is how many I have if they were NOT duplicated. I have tried restarting my phone. For some reason, it shows fine then when it loads fully, the duplicates are back. I also noticed that only contacts synced with Facebook seemed to be duplicated, though not all synced are duplicated. I have attempted deleting one of two of a same contact, but this resulted in the other entry being deleted too.

Is there a way to delete multiple ones at the same time? Also, when you make a new folder, is there a way to rename that folder?? I can't seen to figure out how to do it.

They were facebook sync'd, and after adding one of these girls back, I can't sync her back with her facebook profile (it's not there o_O). View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a weird problem. Some of my ex-wife's friends are still listed in my phone list. I have deleted them from "People" (there is no contacts app on my Droid Eris.) I have deleted them from my Gmail account. And I have unfriended them on Facebook. My sympathetic daughter showed me that I could simply hold the contact listing until it opened to edit. Then press menu and then choose delete. And that works just fine--for any contact except those who were friends with the Ex!! Yeah really funny to me too! Since I don't have the most finesse with the touch screen (I'm an old-school full computer keyboard guy) sometimes it is easy to accidentally dial one of these people of whom I have zero desire to talk to. I know computers and know there is an answer somewhere. Glad if one of you could help me find this answer.

Now they all show up in my contact list (only in "all contacts", when I show "my contacts" it just shows gmail contacts). Is there a way to delete all the exchange contacts only? So I did a factory reset after getting 2.2. I got most of my contacts back thru Facebook and Gmail syncs when I set them up at the beginning. I foolishly "Imported from SD Card" my "Phone" contacts that I exported pre-factory reset thinking it'd just add the ones I didn't have synced with Google or FB. Now I have like 2-3 of the same for each person and sadly, there is NO way to undo this that I can see... unless there is? If I delete ALL contacts, will it automatically restore the ones I sync from Google and Facebook so I can lose all the dups and trips? Any better way to handle this? I can't stand when I type a friend's name in Handcent, I see his/her name and number show up 3 times.

I have tried managing this on HTC Sense, but like everyone else most of the features are not working for me.
