Is there any mechanism in android to perform post uninstall functions? Are there any functions which an application can override to perform custom cleanup when it is being uninstalled? Actually i want to delete some application specific files on uninstall

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have installed my Webview app as home replacement and now my app is loaded after Android reboot. (I do this only for test). Now I can't close my application and I can't uninstall it . (This was what I wanted, but not now!! my application was still under development. ) How I can now uninstall it and return to the default home? The only thing I can think of is to update the firmware, but this is my last option.

I changed applications Data structure and moved all files under /Android/ data/<package_name>/files/ folder.All files that are in that folder will be automatically removed when application is uninstalled.I want those files to be removed when application is uninstalled but not when it's UPDATED. I don't want users to lose all their data after every update. I don't know how to test it (without publishing new release). So will those files be deleted when user updates my application?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently got some fade in stuff working so that my "loading" view is an ImageView that takes up the whole screen, and then I fade in the main view (a GridView in this case) over the top of it. In the activity creation, I call:

Then when the loading AsyncTask is done, I call the following:

Do I need to do anything in particular to clean up the loading_foo view to reduce the amount of memory my app is using? Any other issues with this approach?
Can a custom theme be installed over another custom theme? Or would i need to somehow uninstall the previous custom theme?

I got 2 times: Classic Ringtone_13 , the first one I selected, didn't work ( played the default ring tone ) but created a new not working Classic Ringtone_13. If I select the last one It works ( plays ringtone13 ).

I've downloaded some icon packs and assigned a few of its icons to custom folders I made in "App Organizer". My question now is can I safely uninstall the icon packs to free up clutter in the App Drawer and still have App Organizer retain those few icons I do use?

I turned off the notifcation for the gmail app but cant seem to find where i can unistall it or turn it off in a sense. Basically my emails are being sent both to k9 and gmail app.
2. can you change the notifcation led light for the k9 app? currently it blinks purple when an email comes in and I cant seem to change it like I can with hancent or phone calls.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI saw a thread where a user removed several apps after rooting the droid x and then successfully did a factory reset. I proceeded to remove the same apps using Titanium Backup. Before doing so, I saved the whole system/apps folder to the sd card in case i wanted to reinstall any later. I figured the reason these apps were installed in the system folder is so users couldn't touch them (assuming they weren't rooted). So just as a test, I tried reinstalling CityID using Root Explorer, and it installed it in the data/app folder (which uses the 8GB of internal memory). 1.) Can we effectively uninstall all the apps from the system folder and then reinstall them manually onto the 8GB of internal memory using root explorer, so we are no longer using our RAM space? 2.) Anyone feel brave enough to try doing this with a factory reset to see what happens? 3.) Another question I've seen asked and not answered is whether 'freezing' an application with Titanium will cause any harm with a factory reset (for something with a known issue like Backup Assistant), or would the app be re-enabled since the factory reset would blow away Titanium?

The maps they provide are way off base. I would like to walk all of the trails and have the Droid record where I am walking.You know, this may be easier than I think using ASE and writing a Python script. I'll just get the location every half second and write it out to a file. It'll be interesting to see how the maps turn out, seeing the low resolution of the GPS receiver.

Because the App is used in different environments and for different purposes, I would like to provide a way to automatically deploy a configuration alongside the App that contains the settings for the environment (url of the locally hosted web services for example) and App settings (such as a timer period for talking to the web services). It would be tedious to have a UI for this and have to do it on every device post installation. Things I have tried and why they didn't meet my requirements:
*Raw Resource: If I unzip the apk and change the settings file, it becomes invalid as I need to resign the apk.
*Reading straight from the apk with ZipFile/ZipEntry: Device complains upon installation that the config file is not signed.
*PreferencesActivity: Requires device side UI; It would be tedious to have a UI for this and have to do it on every device post installation.
