Motorola Droid X :: Uninstall / Freezing Application - Factory Reset?
Jul 23, 2010
I saw a thread where a user removed several apps after rooting the droid x and then successfully did a factory reset. I proceeded to remove the same apps using Titanium Backup. Before doing so, I saved the whole system/apps folder to the sd card in case i wanted to reinstall any later. I figured the reason these apps were installed in the system folder is so users couldn't touch them (assuming they weren't rooted). So just as a test, I tried reinstalling CityID using Root Explorer, and it installed it in the data/app folder (which uses the 8GB of internal memory). 1.) Can we effectively uninstall all the apps from the system folder and then reinstall them manually onto the 8GB of internal memory using root explorer, so we are no longer using our RAM space? 2.) Anyone feel brave enough to try doing this with a factory reset to see what happens? 3.) Another question I've seen asked and not answered is whether 'freezing' an application with Titanium will cause any harm with a factory reset (for something with a known issue like Backup Assistant), or would the app be re-enabled since the factory reset would blow away Titanium?

Just ran reset on my phone twice...it rebooted and nothing was removed! Never seen this before anyone have any thoughts? I'm on CM 5.0.7.1, and haven't seen this behavior before on that or any other ROM. Gonna boot into recovery and do it manually.

I did a factory reset because i thought it would fix a number of problems i had before and after the 2.1 OTA.
1. HTC's weather app wouldn't update on it's own or manually (sometimes) (not a force close issue)
2. Mobile network issue. Places where i would get 3-4 bars got 1-2 (sometimes 3) and the "D" under 3G mostly changes to the up down arrow. This was on 1.5 and might have to wait maybe another day to see if this continue on 2.1.
3. apps is my main issue. I know all the apps are in the download section on the market and i saved my apps in the SD card but when I reinstalled, scores and profiles from different apps and not there. Is there a way to restore the apps to where there they where before the factory reset instead of the apps acting like it's been just downloaded.

I know there was a bulletin on not to do it if you had 2.1, but I was rooted using SS4.6. I had switched ROMs, between about three of them the past week, and didn't do a full wipe, just to be safe. But the phone was starting to get real slow, regardless of the ROM, so I just did a factory reset using Clockwork Recovery and now I don't seem to be getting 3G anymore. I can still get data, just at 1X. It'll say "3G" when idle, but once I'm browsing, it bumps down to 1X again. This couldn't possibly be what was suggested not to do for 2.1 owners, was it? Despite being on 2.2?

I've tried both ways. Settings, privacy, reset.Home plus power button while the phone is off.(Sd card is removed by the way)On the system recovery screen it says E:can't open /cache/recovery/commandI've tried using wipe cache partition then wipe and just wipe. It still goes back to my last settings. Even my wallpaper which is of a picture of my son is on there.

So I installed PandaBeta for the Droid, and although it was cool, I uninstalled it because it was lacking the features I really wanted (it is in beta after all). After I uninstalled it, my phone has been acting semi goofy, and I noticed there are some new things that show up in Taskiller that weren't there before:
1.) Google Partner Setup (I don't even know what this is)
2.) com.google.android.apps.maps:FriendService
3.) Bluetooth Share (I never use bluetooth)
4.) com.weather.Weather:gadgetPrivateProcess
5.) Voice Dialer
6.) com.Twidroid:remote
Now I don't know if those are supposed to be there, but if they are supposed to be there, they were never there UNTIL I installed PandaBeta. My big issue though is I have noticed my phone acting semi weird (could have just been a fluke). I just made a 1 hour phone call and when I went to hangup, the screen never woke up. So I hit the unlock button, nothing happened. I open the keyboard, nothing happened. The phone was on because when I opened the keyboard, the keyboard was backlit. This never happened before the uninstall. Anyway, is there anyway to restore the Droid to the initial state? In other words a factory reset of the OS? I don't care if I loose all data, since everything I have is on the Google Cloud anyway.

I just bought a Motorola Droid from some1 today off of craigslist and I took it to verizon to have it activated which was fine. But when verizon tried doing a reset it didn't work. All the previous guys stuff is still on it. And because of that I can't get rid of his email address so I can't access the market to get apps because I don't know his password. It seems he put a Launcher2 Mod on it and I can't get it off.

So Option 1 doesn't do anything except for telling me to contact a CSR. Option two gives me the music and tells me it can't activate the phone and gives me a 1800 number that does little for me at 3 in the morning.

A friend is having trouble with the 2.2 OTA, he lost his phones ringing ability, I was gonna suggest a factory reset but he thinks VZW said this will cause him to lose data, like all his apps. Is this correct? If so is there a better solution to try first?

After I received the OTA to 2.1 I have noticed more lag when scrolling between home screens, using 2D games is painful with the framerate reduction, and many items that are running in the background without me ever starting them. I also cannot seem to keep them closed either. I can also say that I am getting worse battery life now than I was with 2.0.1. I was wondering what would actually happen if I rebooted into Recovery Mode and did a Factory Reset with Data Wipe. Would this possibly help with the update causing these problems that were not there before?

OK, this isnt as stupid of a question as it sounds at first.I know how to actually do a factory reset. My question is, does anyone know where the thread is that explained all the steps in backing up your information (with certain applications) before doing a factory reset? There was a thread here that told you certain applications that will make sure your data was backed up so you can restore it all after the reset.I remember seeing on on this forum a while ago, but after searching a few times, I cant find it.I'm hoping a factory reset will help with my icon lag issue and the general sluggishness of my phone.

Exactly what is deleted/defaulted? Will I lose anything on my SD card? Do you lose all of yours apps? Can paid apps be redownloaded? Do you lose root? Do you default to out-of-the-box 2.1 build?

Did a factory reset about 2 hours ago. I have about 200 apps that I had downloaded before and they are all still saying "downloading" in the market. Not a single one has downloaded. I restarted the phone twice since, but they are all still downloading.

I have set up the one-click root on my X, and have also licensed and installed Titanium Backup. I am now ready to remove some of the crapware on my phone. I just have this last question. After "freezing" and/or removing some of the crapware, do I need to do a Factory Reset, or, can I just do a Battery Pull?

I have had my droid X for about 3 weeks now. I want to learn though, and i figure this is a good place to do it. I love my phone. but it confuses me. And Ive had some issues that Ive seen a lot of other people have had since i updated to froyo. My biggest issues are my gmail dosen't seem to be getting new emails to my phone, the text messages being all goofy, and I don't really like the way the screen will rotate to view the other landscape way. I've seen people talk about doing a factory reset. What exactly does that do? And will i lose my contacts and such? Also, what does it mean to root a phone? I looked around but couldn't seem to find any answers.

I decided to perform a factory reset on my Droid the other day simply because I was having a contact sync issue. I was having the problem where changes in Gmail would sync to the phone but changes/adds/removes on the phone wouldn't sync back to Gmail. Sync records on the phone showed it was days since the last successful sync. So I cleaned up my contacts on Gmail and did a factory reset on the phone. When I tried to activate, it failed to program the phone. I tried it numerous times and did options 1, 2 and 3, all failed.
To make a long story short for now, I believe my problem had to do with a neighbor having a VZW Network Extender. After googling for a few things I noticed someone who talked about problems activating with a network extender. They mentioned after dialing you get a two note beep when the call connects. I noticed this while at home but wasn't entirely sure. I read about this while at work so I made a call while there and noticed no beep. Once I got home sure enough, a two tone beep. So hopefully this helps others considering I wasted over an hour on the phone with VZW Customer Service. Although I will admit, I had a human on the phone within a couple of minutes, they were really polite and never did any cold transfers. VZW had me do a hard reset and a manual activation. Process is listed below................

Running the OTA 2.2 and I am rooted. I use ADW with with the Sense skin. I am going to do a factory reset of my phone and want to return it to the state it is currently in including all apps, app info (like game saves, etc), contacts, text history, pictures, etc. What is the proper protocol to get my phone back to the state it is in now? I have taken screenshots of my 7 homecreens already. I do not want to lose any of my game save info (for tower raiders for instance) nor my text message history. Will TB back all that up and restore? Is it necessary to reformat the SD card also? And if so, should I make a separate backup of the SD card to my PC before reformatting it? ottom line: Does TB do a comprehensive enough backup to get my phone back to the state it is in now or are there other measures one should take before doing a factory reset.

I've taken the steps to undo the changes from my rooting. What's the best way to check if I've unrooted? I also want to do a factory reset. The only reason I'm hesistant to go with the factory reset is because after rooting the phone, I've uninstalled Blockbuster and AmazonMP3. Those were the only apps that I removed. I have since reinstalled those apks and verify that those are in system/app.

I just rooted and will soon install a new ROM and kernel which I understand requires a factory reset. There are certain things I want to backup before doing and know of Titanium Backup and MyBackup but wasn't sure if one or the other could do everything I needed. This what I'd like backed up I think that covers everything. Can anyone tell me if either Titanium or MyBackup can do all of this? Anything else I should want backed up (that isn't already by Google) but not thinking of?
