Android :: Alarm App With CUSTOM Or SHORT Timeout?

Aug 15, 2010

I've downloaded and tried about 5 or so alarms from the market and now I'm going to stop and ask before I download more.Here is what I'm looking for:All of the stock Droid X alarm functions (Android 2.1) PLUS an ability to change the length of the timeout. This is the kicker, though.I don't want a LONG timeout.I want a SHORT timeout.I'd like to be able to set it at somewhere in the 10-20 second range.Why? I'm using my phone as a day manager in a classroom setting.I need about 10 alarms during the course of the day for very specific reasons (each with their own ringtone).I need them to ramp up to maximum loudness, play for about 10 seconds, then shut off regardless of any action I take. Some of the alarms I've seen do allow a change to the timeout, but it's like 5, 10, 15, 20 minutes. Why not just go custom on the timeout and make everybody happy?

I have friends who I like and do not want to unfollow (nor do I want them to know I unfollowed them), but sometime these people go on rants and I would just like to be able to not have to see them when they decide to do it.

Android :: Twitter's Officially Supported Application

May 24, 2010

i am developing an application for android and would like for my users to be able to post some information from my application to their twitter feed. i know how to make this work by building a VIEW intent and forwarding the user to the android built-in web browser (thanks to stack overflow!) However, now that there is an official Twitter application, I would like to be able to use the twitter applications activity (if it is installed) to make the post. However, I can not find any developer documentation on what the Twitter Intent for Android is called. Can someone provide a short snippet of sample code that includes that text of the Intent to use?

Android :: Frame Animation Or Movie File For Short Interactive Movie Application

Jul 22, 2010

In a nut shell, when the app is loaded, it will play a short movie (maybe a few seconds at most @ 12-24fps). I will then have 2 buttons displayed on the screen, and depending on what button is pressed, it I will play another short movie (5-10 seconds). While waiting for the user to make a decision, the movie will be looping.
The movie source is stop-motion photography so it's already chopped up into frames. My question here is if I should use a Frame Animation technique, or if I should use a Movie player for this. All in all perhaps there's less than 100 still frames that make up the stop-motion. I was going to go the Frame Animation route, but I wasn't sure if having so many individual frames would kill the app so I thought I'd post here to see if anyone had any insight.

Android :: Any Intent To View User Twitter Feed In Application?

Sep 29, 2010

I have a user's twitter handle. Right now I'm opening it through a web page like:
String url = "http://www.twitter.com/" + "example_handle";
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse(url));
startActivity(intent);

If the user has the Twitter android app installed, is there a different intent I can use which gives the user the option to view that user's twitter feed in the Twitter app, instead of forcing them directly to a browser? I'm not sure if the author's of the Twitter app have exposed any such intent.

Android :: Service Utilizing Custom Usb Device

Apr 28, 2009

I am looking to implement an Android service that will serve as the "driver/hardware access" for a device that will connect to the usb host port. Is there a good framework or example showing how I can make a service interact with this device? Its not a standard device that Android already supports other than the fact it connects via usb.

I am able to do this with linux libusb native code already but what would be the pathway to make this work through the android java framework?

I want to avoid having to make a kernel level driver for this that is why I prefer to have this implemented as a service for other apps to access the device.

If so, how can I go about referencing that service? Or do I have this all wrong and misunderstood?

Android :: SDK - Throw A Custom Exception From A Service To An Activity

Nov 26, 2009

I'm currently working on an XMPP app' on Android and I'm pondering about the best way to throw a different type of Exception than a RemoteException to my activity from my service.

As it seems impossible to throw another thing than a RemoteException using IPC (you can't declare to throw anything in your .aidl), I just see two solutions:

Create a listener for my activity to listen on my custom XMPP exception, which in fact will not be thrown but just sent as a usual object implementing the Parcelable protocol.
Catch my XMPPException and throw a RemoteException (with a content updated with my XMPPException) - But in that case, how could I know on my activity if it's an XMPP or a real RemoteException ? By tagging the name of the exception and parsing it on my activity ? It would be really gore.

Android :: Custom Classes Passed From Service To A UI Threads Via AIDL

May 30, 2010

I have a service that regularly queries a web server for new messages. The service stores the new messages in an arrayList. These messages are implemented using a custom class, storing all kinds of metadata (strings and longs).

An activity then connects to this service to retrieve those messages and display them to the user.

I have an .aidl file that describes the interface that the service exposes.

CODE:..........

The Message class extends the Parcelable class which should allow for the IPC transfer.

The problem is this: Eclipse gives me an error saying that the type of List<Message> is unknown. Any imports are marked as invalid.

Android :: Custom Changeable Handler When Service Finishes Downloading File

May 30, 2010

I have a Service that downloads a file from the internet. What I want is for the response (an InputStream in this case) to be handled by a custom handler that can be switched (like a strategy pattern) but I can't figure out how to do this. So basically the User of the API would be able to plug in different handlers for the response, some would parse XML, others might save files etc. I realise I could pass through the activity context and execute the method from this (given some interface) but I don't want to do this obviously, in case the Activity is closed in the meantime while the file is still downloaded.

UPDATE - I just had one idea it will work sort of but has problem if the DownloadRunnable gets changed between executions of the downloads.

The modified Runnable interface
interface DownloadRunnable {
void run(InputStream stream);
}
