View 3 RepliesI have an app that plays intermittent sounds while its activity is open, and the user is always expecting it to make these noises, but unfortunately it is constrained by the music stream volume. The options I have discovered are thus:
Adjust the music stream's volume, possibly deafening the user if they happen to be playing music at the time.
Call MediaPlayer.setVolume() which is ineffective if the music stream's volume is 0. Handle volume button presses myself which presents two issues: volume button presses adjust the ringer volume unless my audio is playing, and I have been as of yet unable to catch the onKey event for a volume button press using my OnKeyListener. If there were some way to force the adjustment to apply to the music stream while my activity has focus, or to just catch the button presses myself this would work. Play a silent looping piece of audio in the background to keep the music stream in context for volume adjustments.
I think the 3rd option is probably best since it cedes control of the volume to the user, but if there were some way to just override the system volume in a single mediaplayer instance that would work too.
Is there a way to manage the audio levels through an app? Or is it more dependent on the phone's built in capabilities? Right now at work I listen to a skype audio call from my house (for security) at a very low volume and then at a higher level I listen to music or podcasts, both sources going at the same time. When my dog goes nuts, the door is knocked on, or (in theory) if someone busted down my door, I notice the change in volume and sound, turn off my local media, and focus on what I'm hearing until the drama passes.
I ask because I would like to continue this setup when not at work, like say while running, where I again have earphones in and am normally listening to audio content. I would like to be able to have two pieces of audio: music combined with a skype stream or normal phone call, going at the same time like at work. So is there a way to have two sources going at the same time, with the volume of each independently adjustable? Is this an app thing or a phone thing? Phone will be Sprint Hero.
I'm addicted to audio podcast .
I'm using google listen to manage them..queue,download,etc..
Is there any other app that can do better?
I connected my phone via USB to my RR sport to upload audio files to the RR hard drive. However, I keep getting connection error. Apparently my device is not being recognized as a storage. I did the unmount thinking. Also, I am wondering how I can play audio from my phone through the RR audio system.
RR is 2010.
Can I manage data(contacts list, address book and etc.) from Android phones by only USB connection to pc without any application in phone.
Or is possible to connect phones database from pc.
I've looked at a lot of different place for a Contact Manager for Xperia X10 (or Android phone for that matter), but couldn't find a perfect solution. So far, the closest option I have found is this PC Suite for Android Xperia X10-Manage Everything from PC Gadgets | Technology Simplified.
In a nutshell, it involves installing additional driver, a suite on your PC and another app on the phone. Wondering if anyone has other options? I wish the PC Companion software shipped with the Xperia X10 could have this function built it. Adding pictures for each of 300 contacts you have isn't a fun thing to do on a phone.
I'm currently reading the specs about Android's Security system and something is not clear on my mind... Can somebody explain me ? About the Permissions, it is possible to set four levels (Normal, Dangerous, Signature and SignatureOrSystem) The documentation is here : http://developer.android.com/reference/android/R.styleable.html#Andro...About the "Dangerous" level, it's written : "For example, any dangerous permissions requested by an application may be displayed to the user and require confirmation before proceeding, or some other approach may be taken to avoid the user automatically allowing the use of such facilities." What does "Some other approach may be taken..." means ? How does that work ? Is there any example?
View 4 Replies View RelatedA common complaint with my app is that the sound is too low. I don't know what I can do to improve this.- I use SoundPool, and believe I am setting each sound to its maximum volume - I edit my sound files in Audacity, and use the normalization/ amplification tools to maximize them to as much as I can before they start to cause popping/crackling. - They are saved and played back as ogg files. I don't know anything else I can do?

View 39 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if I completely grasp the Android permissions model. I recently started working on a simple widget to put the phone to sleep. Of course, it always gets a security exception because an ordinary user app isn't allowed to call the Power Manager method 'goToSleep' because it's requires the 'signature' level permission DEVICE_POWER. But I could find nowhere in the docs or on Google that officially says that.Is there some document that lists the permission levels of android platform defined permissions? Or, am I looking at permissions completely wrong?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm developing an Android app which will target 2.1/2.2 devices, so I have my project set up to use the 2.2 SDK (API level 8), but allow for installation on devices with at least API level 7. The problem is that during my daily development, I'm not always paying close attention to which API level of the methods/classes/constants that I'm using, which makes it very easy to break code on older devices. I have got dynamic classloading working, and as much as I dislike having a ton of extra factory classes and interfaces in my project, I'm willing to deal with that solution. Currently, the only way I have to check an older API level is to set my project's settings to the given level, rebuild, see what breaks, and then refactor. It's quite a pain. What I would really like is the ability to scan my code and check compatibility for a given API level without changing my global project build settings. Is there some easy way to do this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI didn't like having my phone numbers showing up in my email contact list, so I turned off contact sync and deleted all the phone numbers from my iGoogle contacts. I do not seem to be able to manage my contact list in my phone, however -- none of the default numbers are the ones that I chose for my previous phone and seem to be in a random order -- and I wondered if putting them into google online would be the way to manage them. I don't send email from my gmail account and don't really need them anyway.
I deleted the emails in my contacts and turned the sync back on. However, I got an error message saying that to sync I had to delete 34 contacts. I assumed this was my phone list, and I didn't want to do that! I thought I told it no and cancelled it, but I just went in to call my child's daycare and my contact list is empty. Is there anyway to get that back? Or am I stuck with repopulating the list all over again? Also, do I have to use the online google to manage the contacts? Or is it in the phone somewhere and I just haven't figured it out yet? After this, I would prefer to not try synching them again.
I have a 4fb SD card fitted yet I keep getting a message saying I'm running low on phone storage space. Can I manage this on the SD card?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI personally like the brightness level to be low, lower than the automatic setting, but not always all the way down. My brightness is currently set all the way down and it seemed to be too low at first, but now I am use to it and that's how I'm gonna roll for the time being. Not to mention that it significantly decreases the light bleeding. I did notice though, that when i turn the screen on, it turns on brighter for a second, then dims down. Anyone else experiencing this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI need an application with which I can store maps with different zoom levels. I remember the application "Istanbul Map" let me do this and I could download Google (or other sources') maps from the zoom level I was in up to the maximum zoom level of my preference. Therefore, assuming that I had downloaded the map, when zoomed out I could only see street names and when zoomed in I could see the shops and their names or any other details corresponding to that zoom level, in case I had set the maximum zoom level to 17, 18 or 19.
However it's been two years that I haven't used that application and now that I downloaded "Istanbul Map" from Google Play I noticed that it doesn't offer the same features as before and it seems that it is specifically for Istanbul. Besides, I need to buy the application in order to use it while the previous versions were free.
Now that I am going on a trip and while on way I might need to zoom in up to the 18th zoom level to see the names of stores or other details. So I need an application that provides me the same feature as the old "Istanbul Map" letting me download Google maps for different zoom levels. The built-in Google maps application only allows to download a map with a fixed zoom level and it is useless for me.
is there any way to further decrease brightness levels other than the manual bar slider or auto brightness? I want the screen to go about half of its lowest setting. I use the phone a lot in near total darkness and its to friggin bright!
