I have a droid incredible and I do not use my wifi settings but every now and then something on my phone turns on my wifi. I also believe something actually transmitted or received information via wifi at one point (my wifi usage said 9 -14%). I always check to make sure its off but when the phone is sleeping (screen is off) something turns it on. Can anyone tell me what's going on?

After months of trying, I STILL cannot find a single instant messaging app for my HTC Eris (2.1) that will STAY CONNECTED.I primarily want to connect to MSN (Windows Live, whatever they call it now) as well as Yahoo and AIM, though if I could only get MSN to work I'd be satisfied. However all the apps I've tried (ALL OF THEM!) behave the same way. Each one will connect, and either not show me as online to the rest of the world (verified my by gf), show my friends as not being signed in (when they actually are), and randomly disconnect me and NEVER RECONNECT ME unless I manually bring up the app on the screen. It's as if the apps have no connection to the IM's servers, or reality itself.I have tried MSN Talk, Meebo, Ebuddy, Nimbuzz. Each one of these claims to automatically reconnect if there's a problem, but NONE of them ACTUALLY DO. No matter what, I drop off, I'm shown as "signed out" to the outside world, and the apps will only reconnect (or pretend to reconnect) when I manually bring the app to the screen.I would expect that any IM might disconnect if I went out of signal range and came back, however this happens even when the signal is strong and uninterrupted. And it NEVER reconnects if I leave the phone alone. ONLY if I manually bring the IM app up does it even go through the motions of a reconnect.I can try messaging people even when it looks like it's connected to the server(s), but over half the time, the messages don't make it, because it's not REALLY connected at all.Again, this is using ALL IM apps I've tried so far.I refuse to believe that Android has ZERO working IM apps available, so... is there one that actually works properly? Is there some setting or tweak that will "keep-alive" the connection? Is there a problem with my Eris? Or... are there really no working IM apps for Android?

When i plugged in my phone it shows that it is trying to charge but the percentage never goes up and slowly goes down. I have to turn the phone off and let it charge. When I do that for about 4 hours I turn it back on and the charge is only at 18% max. I need some help! I have uninstalled most of my programs and all of my most recent downloads.

I have been reading up on the Evo (still don't know a lot, but I do know some of the differences between the phones) and can't decide if the Evo is worth getting to pay $80 for ETF.I just started working at Walmart so I can get a 20% discount at Verizon, not sure on Sprint as of now, I live Springfield, MO (3rd largest city in MO) Sprints site says it has "best" coverage, but I don't see 4G being in the picture for a while.Should I stay with Verizon and get the incredible and just get a 4g phone next year? or make the leap to my 3rd carrier in 6 years?

After one of the recent Launcherpro updates I'm having this issue where the window pops up asking which launcher I want to use when hitting the home button. It's not remember to default to launcherpro even when clicking the default box. It seems to reset after holding the home button to bring up the recent apps window. Every time now without fail. View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been stressing out the last few days about it. i have a few choices but i don't know what i should do. a second opinion could help. i just got a evo from sprint last week and to be honest, the phone is absolutely gorgeous. i really love it. the thing is, i'm still in a family plan with my parents on t-mobile which they're paying and my mom weren't happy when she found out i branched off. my contract was already over with t-mobile and i've been doing month to month for a year. so my choice is to keep the evo and pay for sprint or return it since i'm within 30 days and stay with t-mobile. the sad part about t-mobile is that they don't have any good phones beside the nexus one and the upcoming samsung galaxy s which i don't like the look of it at all. i'm thinking of ordering the nexus one through google but i'm not sure if it's worth 529 dollars plus tax. i also heard it has a few problems so that kinda push me away from it. anyway, what do you guys think i should do? both sprint and t-mboile has good coverage here. i just find out t-mobile has hspa+ which is a nice plus(no pun intended.) and sprint is going to have 4g here soon. i don't know about t-Mobile's customer service but sprint is really nice to me. i don't know what to do lol. i have a job so i can afford the evo and sprint but with t-mobile i'll pay less since i got the family plan and i'm contract free. so android forum members. tell me what i should do?

If I start this service and then immediately use the power button to switch off the screen, then I would expect the phone, at some point, to fall asleep. But it never seems to fall asleep while the service is still doing its stuff. At least, not on my Nexus One.
I'm not using a wake lock (though I do use WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_KEEP_SCREEN_ON in the activity that monitors the service progress).
So is it true that I don't need to use a wake lock?
In my activity I respond to an onClick() by replacing the current view with a new one (setContentView()). For some reason when I do this and then go back to the original view later the button I originally pressed still looks like it is pressed. If you 'refresh' it somehow (e.g. scroll over it with the trackball) then it reverts to the unpressed state. It's as if the button doesn't get the 'touch-up' event. The weird thing is: This only happens on my T-Mobile Pulse (android 1.5). It doesn't happen on the emulator. I've tried calling invalidate()/postInvalidate() on the view when I show it but it doesn't have any effect.

After a little bit of time does the system close them out? What happens to them? I have a Sprint Evo and I don't see a way to close them out. I know that battery life can always be helped, and I would hate to leave them running all day just sucking the life out of the phone if they don't have to be.

When I apply a scale animation to it, and the scale animation is completed, I want the view to stay at that new size for the rest of the activities life cycle. Unfortunately right now when the scale up animation is complete, the view snaps back to the original size. How can I get it to keep the new animated tranformation? Is there an easy way to make the screen stay on when I am using maps. Perhaps a "stay on app" or a setting somewhere. This is an issue in the car when I'm using the map and the screen keeps turning off, I know I can manually set the timeout up to 30 minutes but that's a pain and I have to remember to set it back afterwards.

The purpose is to listen to internet radios and to be able to switch between those radios using my toyota car player which handles bluetooth/A2DP/avrcp .The app I would use is xiialive. This device would have his own sim card and should stay in the car. I don't want to plug the device each time I enter in my car, push any button or whatever. I would just like that the fact to put the key in my car would connect automatically to a webradio.
In fact I don't really need to see the screen, the device could stay hidden somewhere inside the car.Here are the features I would like :
- auto boot when I turn on the car, which means when the device receives power from the usb port (my car has an usb port)
- plug an external antenna to get a better reception while driving. I'm thinking of a small android computer with a 3G stick plugged in. I have a 3G stick with an external antenna slot. Or any smartphone with an external antenna slot, but I haven't found one so far.
- eventually auto power down when I turn off the car, but If the device shutdowns when the battery is empty, it could be ok too

I can position the layout by drag&drop. If the size of the layout doesn't change, the position stays, but as soon as the size of the layout changes (because more text inside the TextView) the position is reseted.
I use the layout(left, top, right, bottom) to position the layout.
Now I don't know where I should add my layout() call to make sure it stays at the right position...

View 9 Replies View RelatedHere's my situation: I have an app that's been compiled using 1.5 SDK and minSdkVersion=3. Now I want to add 2 icons: one for high density screens like Droid and another one for low density screens like G1.
For this, I added the high density icon to new directory drawable-hdpi- v4/. I then compiled using 1.6 sdk and added targetSdkVersion="4" to the manifest. minSdkVersion is still 3.
This is working in limited testing, but I'm not sure if I have done everything correctly.
I have many questions:
1. By specifying v4 in drawable-hdpi-v4, the icon will not be displayed to 1.5 or below OS's. But what about users with 2.0 or higher SDK's? Will they get the non-hdpi icon, since they will have v6 or v7 ?
2. The documentation for targetSdkVersion states, "Specifying this target version allows the platform to disable compatibility settings that are not required for the target version (which may otherwise be turned on in order to maintain forward-compatibility)". Does this mean that my app will not be forward compatible as soon as I specify a targetSdkVersion? What exactly is being turned off?
3. Even if I leave out the targetSdkVersion="4", the app runs ok. So do I really need it?
4. Should I be using the latest SDK (2.1) and setting that as the targetsdkversion and compiling against that? Or some other combination of targetsdkversion and compiling sdk? I'm not using any API's that are not in 1.5..
5. Is any of this related to why some of my HTC Eris users have complained that they can no longer find my app in Market after upgrading to 2.1?
