Android :: Layout Should Stay At Specific Position After Content Change

Sep 14, 2010

I have a layout which contains a TextView.

The content of the TextView might change on runtime. (discussed on a different issue here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3683727/layout-with-dynamic-position )

I can position the layout by drag&drop. If the size of the layout doesn't change, the position stays, but as soon as the size of the layout changes (because more text inside the TextView) the position is reseted.
I use the layout(left, top, right, bottom) to position the layout.

Now I don't know where I should add my layout() call to make sure it stays at the right position...

Here is my class

CODE:............

Android :: Animate View And Stay In New Position / Size?

Jul 27, 2010

I currently have a view in my Android app and the view is playing a frame animation. I want to animate the view to increase its size to 150%. When I apply a scale animation to it, and the scale animation is completed, I want the view to stay at that new size for the rest of the activities life cycle. Unfortunately right now when the scale up animation is complete, the view snaps back to the original size. How can I get it to keep the new animated tranformation? I'm using myView.startAnimation(AnimationUtils.loadAnimation(mContext,R.anim.scaleUp150));

Android :: Position Views At Specific Location?

Jul 4, 2010

Is there a way to place widgets / views on the screen at any specific position required?

Something like a calendar with daily events that could overlap.
e.g. if every hour in a day is represented by 1 hour and there are 2 appointments that overlap partially (say 12:00 - 12:30 and 12:20 - 01:00) this would be drawn in the same row but the 12:20 one positioned slightly below the first.

Also there may be views (Image/TextView) that need to span 2 rows (i.e. 12:30 - 1:30).

I think a SurfaceView is one option (is this efficient?) but am not sure if there is some better layout that could be used.

We could use a TableLayout for the hour rows but not sure if there is a way to place overlapping widgets on this?

Android :: Layout With Dynamic Position

Sep 10, 2010

I have a layout which might be a bit unusual.

The structure is the following:

CODE:..............

My customRelativeLayout at the bottom of the XML has a XML layout too:

CODE:.............

My CustomRelativeLayout:

CODE:.....................

What I want to do: I want to be able to change the position of my CustomRelativeLayout. It should be follow my touch. Its smaller than the SurfaceView and should "slide" above following my touch...

There are two problems:

The onTouchListener bind to mLinearLayout (in CustomRelativeLayout) is only triggered once and only for ACTION_DOWN. I see the log output only once The note never changes the position, it is never redrawn with the changed matrix... I see the output stated in onDraw never after the touch happened.

First might be because the SurfaceView also handles touch events. But I thought if the CustomRelativeLayout handles it first, it should work.

Thanks to Xil3 I was able to remove the wall I was run into...

Here is my solution:

My note xml:

CODE:.................

And here is my constructor:

CODE:..................

I also found a bug/feature/issue, which is absolutely new for me: When I remove the background in my note root element (which is currently transparent) the note is only visible within the 200dp width/height I have set in the inner LinearLayout. So its not fill_parent, its wrap_content even as I set it to fill_parent. So layout_width and layout_height only use the given fill_parent when a background is set...

Android :: How To Position Buttons In Linear Layout?

Aug 18, 2010

RelativeLayout is more flexible, and can do what AbsoluteLayout can do and more.
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/widget/RelativeLayout....
To place views on top of one another you can also use FrameLayout, positioning these frame layouts in their parent layout:

> I have an image that will have 5 different areas that will be "clickable." Each clickable area will be invisible and play a different sound. I was told not to use an absolute layout, and use a linear layout instead. However, I am now having an issue with placing the buttons over the picture. The linear layout does not allow me to position them correctly where they need to go. How do I properly position a button so that it is over a certain part of the image?

Android :: Android - Layout - How To Create A Header-content Layout

Jan 4, 2010

How do I go about creating the following layout in Android?

I want a "header", that is, a header that stays the same at all times. The only thing that should change is the area below the header.

Think of it as a webpage, where the content-area is where its all happening =)

+--------------------+
H E A D E R
+--------------------+

C O N T E N T

+--------------------+

Sure, its easy enough to create a LinearLayot, add a View on the top and then another view below that - tada! But what Im after is how you "set up" or design the project so its easy to just change whats in the Content.

What I really would like is to be able to "swipe" (see here) the area and then just "roll in" a new View/thing in the Content-area, but keep the same header.

Android :: Context Menu On Table Layout How To Get Selected Item Position?

Jan 22, 2010

Context Menu seems quite handy as long as we are using an AdapterView as we can easily get selected item position in onContextItemSelected from AdapterContextMenuInfo.position Any idea how we can achieve something similar in a TableLayout? In my TableLayout, i have some TableRow and i would like to get the row index in the onContextItemSelected callback like i would do with a simple ListView. I guess i will have to register the contextmenu for each row? but how can tie the row index with the menu? i see no way to do it with registerForContextMenu.

Android :: Relative Layout In Java Code With Inflate And Custom View - Position Error

Jun 16, 2009

I have a custom view that I had to write for a large scrollable image, as the images are larger than the size of the screen. Before, I had tried to do it by putting the image into a ScrollView but that of course didn't work. The view itself is within a RelativeLayout within the activity and at the bottom of the screen I have two buttons that are used for navigation and at the top a TextView with a caption for the activity (the main header is already being used here for instruction). In my below code, I've checked the Hierachy Viewer to confirm all the elements are loaded and in the Activity I can see the TextView, however it overlays the ZN5ScrollView area and below the image I just have a blank area of the size defined rather than my buttons. For the bottom navigation, the Hierachy Viewer is saying the absolute_y of the bottom navigation is 480. I'm wondering if anyone can help with my layout code here to get this working correctly? Bottom navigation is 50px high, ZN5ScrollView is 365px above the navigation, and the TextView takes up the rest of the area at the top

Android : Layout - Content Extends Over The Visible Area

Dec 27, 2009

Currently I'm working on a dialog which consists of title, description, tags and footer. The title can be long and in this case the text should automatically be displayed in multiple lines. The description is also longer and should fill multiple lines.

At the bottom of the dialog has to be the footer (also if the title and description don't fill whole screen).
I tried to do create the layout described about but had a problem with long text - if the content is long it doesn't display multiple lines but extends main view (LinearView) so the content extends over the visible area.

Here I'm pasting the print screen of the current state and the mockup of the desired layout:

TextView "Footer" and buttons OK and Cancel should appear at the bottom of the screen and the title ("Title Title Title...) and description text should automatically appear in multiple lines instead of extending the parent view.

Android :: Unable To Add Subview To Linear Layout With Wrap Content

Aug 29, 2010

I'm using data to build elements of a ViewGroup. The ViewGroup are LinearLayouts, except the leaves, which are TextViews. Because Data draws the hierarchy, I inflate the LinearLayouts and TextViews from individual XML files programatically on the fly.

My Problem:
When I create a LinearLayout with the attribute wrap_content, then inflate a TextView or other LinearLayout into it, I can't get the parents (or enough of them, anyway) to redraw, respecting the new view. These LinearLayouts always seem to come out at 0 size, because when they are first created (before their children are inflated), they wrap around nothing. I've tried calling some stock methods of ViewGroup but nothing seems to work.

Android :: OpenGLES Lighting - Should Not Change Position

Oct 7, 2010

I'm writing a little 3D engine for android to better learn the platform and opengl. I hope to eventually use it as a base for little 3D games.

I'm trying to implement lighting right now, and generally following the NeHe opengl android port tutorials. I have a simple spinning cube and 1 light that should not change position. Upon rendering my scene on a device the light appears to "dim" and re-lighten as cube rotates.

This is a swf video of the behavior:
http://drop.io/obzfq4g

The code for my "engine" is located here: [url]
The relevant bits are:

[url]
This is where I'm initializing opengl and setting up my scene. and [url]this is the code for actually rotating / drawing the cube mesh.

I wish I could formulate a better question; but I'm very stuck/confused and can't even think of an intelligent question to ask besides "does anyone know what might cause the kind of behavior I'm seeing?"

Also the slowness / choppyness of the animation in the video is a result of the screencap software. It's smooth throughout the whole rotation on the emu.

Android :: Change ScrollView's Position After Touch?

Jun 17, 2010

I'm trying to make a ScrollView with a list of numbers in it that the user can select from. After the user touches and scrolls, after the finger is lifted I want the scroll to "snap" to the item in the middle of the ScrollView and give me the output. My ScrollView contains a vertical linear layout with TextView objects in it. The ScrollView's vertical size is about 60sp.

I think this would involve the ScrollView.onTouch with a ACTION_UP, but I don't know how to use it. Also, is there a way to get an item's index or value based on a position in the list?
