View 4 RepliesI've noticed that my phone easily downloads my contacts from Google and Face book to my phone. However, when i modify or add a contact to my phone it doesn't update to my Google contacts? This is important since many of us are considering installing other Roms and we want to keep our contacts.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have made what I think is the mistake of setting up all of my contacts in my Incredible as "phone" contacts. I now understand that these should have been set up as Google contacts so that they will be backed up on my Google account. I do not see a way to edit these contacts to change them from phone to Google. Am I going to have to delete and re-enter all of these contacts as Google contacts to get this done?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed ChompSMS and I have already been using Better Keyboard. I type in vertical mode using t9 and the smiley face has always been there in the bottom right corner (while using default messaging application)
Now I installed ChompSMS and can't get the smiley face back, right now it is an Enter arrow. I have a Droid if that matters.
I have an HTC Magic running 1.6, but this has been happening since I've had the phone. Basically, when using the default keyboard (which, incidentally, seems tonnes better since the update - it's made me not care that HTC IME doesn't work) it'll sometimes miss usually two key presses. And the phone physically recognizes then, because they pop up above my finger, but they never appear in the text entry field. It's bizarre - does it happen to anyone else, and does anyone else know how to fix it? (Incidentally, does anyone else regularly hit the key instead of space bar by accident. It annoys the piss out of me.)
View 3 Replies View RelatedLately I've been feeling like I'm typing too fast for my keyboard and I'm missing characters all the time. I'm wondering if the keyboard I'm using is the issue or is it just the way the Evo is. I'm using the keyboard that comes with Warm 2.2. Is there a setting I can change that would allow me to type faster (like, is this a software problem) or is this simply a limitation on the Evo's on screen kb?
View 4 Replies View Relatedmaybe it just isn't there, but I am trying to locate the backslash character () on the Eris keyboard. I can easily see the forwardslash character ( / ) but the backslash is what I need to setup my Exchange account on the phone. Does anybody have any ideas?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Better Keyboard installed on my Hero but am having no luck at all getting it to show up.
Am I missing something?
Check me if I'm wrong here, but wasn't the 2.1 update for the Droid supposed to include multi-touch on the keyboard? Mine definitely doesn't appear to have this functionality (as observed while holding down one key and pressing another one). Does this mean I have to go back to Better Keyboard and some other such app? Am I missing something here?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhile checking out the DX at V, I met someone who had a question that no one could answer.
He has 1500 contacts in his BB. However, the BB OS5 allows filters/groups for the contacts. He has one called "Car" with 12 numbers that he calls often. BB allows the upload/transfer of individual filter/groups to the car so he only has to scroll through those 12 numbers. Can the DX offer the same thing where you can only upload selected contacts, or is there an app for that?
I added my contacts from my SIM card to my htc Hero, i now want to add a new contact. I added it to my phone, but when i try and save to SIM, a message appears saying 'SIM card error'. Can anyone point me in the right direction, as to resolving the problem.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I get a message or e-mail, I can scroll to, or tap on a phone number to highlight it, and long press the highlighted phone number to display a menu that allows me to Copy Text. However, no text is actually copied to the clipboard - I can't paste the text to a contact, etc. Anyone else notice this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm a bit concerned my phone is reporting 775 goggle contacts, but goggle says 639. I am about to delete all contacts off my phone and tidy up the ones on goggle by merging duplicates, and then re-import from goggle to my phone... but am reluctant to do this while the phone says i have more goggle contacts that goggle does I have synced a couple times but still the numbers don't match. I have checked and goggle still has not merged contacts so that isn't the reason for the difference either.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently switched phones from BB 8900 (Javelin) to HTC Magic. Only way to transfer all my contacts that I could figure out was to transfer all my contacts to my MS Outlook, and then from there take all the contacts to my HTC Magic. Everything went perfect, but now the trouble began. Any new contact that I add to the phone gets added to the bottom of my contacts list. The contacts are supposed to be in alphabetical order, but the contacts i got from Outlook always stay on top, and then the new contacts I add are being added to the bottom of my contacts list. So it looks something like this ...

I have an HTC Magic and I have a couple of contacts who I frequently talk with on skype. Is there anyway to talk with them skype-to-skype on the Android phone?
The Skype Lite app does not allow calling.
I don't mind either calling using my local minutes OR using my data plan.
Are there any other applications that could assist me with this?
For those of you that are familiar with better keyboard. I was wondering about an easy way to switch from the t9 keyboard to the regular qwerty keyboard. I was under the impression that swiping left would toggle between the 2 but all that does is bring me to the numbers and symbols keyboard. I've been changing back and forth to the android keyboard because its faster than going into the better keyboard settings.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI tried it and it works so far.
Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.
From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers
Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'
Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion
Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.
The app is still in development.
When I set up all of my contacts, I set them to "phone". I have gotten a gmail account now and would like to change all of them from "phone" to my gmail account so I can sync them. Anyone have any idea on how to do this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI wanted to put this in the droid X section because the default way of searching contacts is horrible. I installed gesture search last night and now one of my few gripes with the phone is solved. I hated having to having to hold the options button to bring up a keyboard and then having to clear my last entry to start another search.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI would like to play around with some ideas and develop a soft keyboard for Android to replace the default one.
Is there any general information about soft keyboard development for Android out there?
Any best practices or guidelines?
Can I do with my keyboard application pretty much anything I could do with a normal Android application?
Can I do HTTP connections to synchronize keyboard data with a cloud DB and other phones I have?
Can I open other windows/screens from a key press, e.g. to display a custom input interface different to a normal QWERTY one. If that doesn't work, can I use a pop-up dialog instead?
How to detect if the phone has a physical keyboard, and not an on screen software keyboard? The reason I need to do this is because my app needs multiple keys pressed simultaneously, and this isn't possible with an on screen keyboard.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a tabbed view with one Activity per tab, and when I switch from the first tab, which has a TextView, to the second tab, which only shows a clickable list, the soft keyboard is still there. I want it to go away.
I tried this:
CODE:.............
But this does not work, because there is no relevant view to provide, as there is no View on the screen that takes keyboard input.
I am new in Android and i am working to make an on-screen keyboard which can be visitable via arrow(direction) keys of my external keyboard. I mean i wanna move left, right, up and down in the on-screen keyboard's UI (keys) with pressing arrow keys from my external(hardware) keyboard. The key that cursor is on should be focused, when i press an arrow key from my external keyboard the focused key should change and when i press "enter" from my external keyboard it should be operated.(written to the screen etc.) How can i make this? Is there any idea? How can i make virtual keyboard's keys visitable? It doesn't look like moving around a matrix of buttons.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've changed the keyboard to Chinese, to see what it was like, but don't know how to change it back to the Android keyboard (the symbol for changing input doesn't appear to be there any more).
