Android :: Why All Spam Suddenly Appearing?
Feb 16, 2010I don't like the spam on our discussion group and it seems to be getting worse in the last week or so. Maybe the sources could be tracked and lose their accounts

View 6 RepliesI recently began having a yellow star show up un my notification bar a few times a day. When I check it there are various ads that come from a domain called URL...how to determine which ap is causing these ads so I can delete or freeze it. I am usually not using any ap in particular when it happens so I don't know which one is responsible but I do want to stop it. It is most annoying when it is in the notification bar each time.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIt happened today after I upgraded to the new firmware, 4.04 DXLR5.
Many strange files with an icon that is grey and looks like a square with 2 keyholes and a lightning bolt appeared in all my sd card directories when viewed with the gallery app. These files, when clicked, show a blank screen.
But these files don't exist when viewed with my other apps like quickpic and es file viewer, and when I view the sdcard on my pc with a card reader.
For example originally I had 49 files in my dcim/camera directory. When viewed in gallery, it says I have 114 files. When viewed in quickpic or any other app, I still have 49 files. I cleared data in the gallery app but the same problem exists.
I've noticed that a lot of comments on top apps are from comment spammers. When is something going to be done about this market wide problem? There are probably less than 20 of these users who hit virtually every top app with comment spam. My app is getting hit every single day by these people. It's really getting annoying.

View 3 Replies View RelatedHere's the deal:I am new Voice user, just got in last weekend with the Google Voice for Students thing. I set up a GV number for safekeeping but I'm not using it for calls or SMS. Voice is only set up on my Incredible to handle voicemail. So, tonight, I got a notification on my phone. Upon looking, I see that there's a message in Voice despite having not received any call. It's from an unknown number and obviously a spam message.
Two questions:
1.) How did this message get to me? i.e. did someone text my GV number or what?
2.) Is spam going to be a big problem with Google Voice? If so, I'm afraid I will very quickly switch back to my carrier's service.
At what seem like random times a pop up message "Looks like you forgot to declare the Millennial Media MMAdViewOverlayActivity in your manifest file" comes on my screen.
I have googled the error and it seems to be attributed to either Angry Birds, Barnes and Noble or ubersoft.
I dont have any such software on my phone....... In fact I dont have that much software at all on my phone.

I've got a problem with a flood of touch events destroying my game's framerate while there is a touch active. Basically onTouchEvent is called (with getAction = ACTION_MOVE, x = 0 and y = 0) about a hundred times a second for as long as the finger is touching the screen. I've tried returning from onTouchEvent straight away, and even removing its implementation at all, but it doesn't help - the app slows to a crawl as soon as a finger is down. I asked on the IRC channel and Romain Guy advised me that they're aware of the problem but didn't have time to fix it for Cupcake, so I'm not expecting a full solution!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to help someone who'd like a way to stop email spam from reaching his Android phone. I understand this is usually best done from the email server side of things, but this is where we are right now. This is regarding his work email, and I've suggested that he have gmail fetch it for him so they can filter it (does this work for fetching? I know it works great for emails sent directly to gmail), alas, he says he only has an imap server and no Pop3 server for gmail to fetch. I looked in the market and found only one not terribly highly rated app for filtering email spam on Android phones. If you've tried that email filtering app, it worked?
View 11 Replies View RelatedEver since I got my Android phone, or perhaps it was the unlimited texting, I began getting one our two spam texts a day. My question is this: When I receive such text messages, which often ask me to respond in a certain way (by sending back the word STOP for instance) in order for me to unsubscribe, should I respond? It's a dilemma because I want the spam to stop but I don't want to confirm the validity of my number either (that would invite more spam).
View 5 Replies View RelatedOn my new Android phone I setup my Google Voice number and set it as my primary number to use on the phone. I have had the phone for 3 days and have had my Google Voice acct for over a year with never an issue with it. This morning, the only change I made to my Android phone was adding
an app from the app store called "Facebook Touch". About 2 hours later, I learned that every contact on my Google Voice contact list, which I did a sync with on my phone, got SPAM
with the same SPAM - It was texted out to everyone, here was the message -
Dear, I have tried to purchase some products from a business company, I have attracted by high quality products, low price and enthusiastic services, I think if you are free, you can go to see: styleele.com, picking your interesting <<followed by a link here>>
I can't imagine that it could not have come from the phone. Maybe from that Facebook Touch app as that application had a lot of SPAM just within the application itself (its not deleted).
Every day after I unlock the screen I get full screen ad and two notifications with ad. I have no app installed which can show notifications which makes it really strange (a virus?). How to diagnose which app is causing it?
I used AppBrain Ad Detector and some Airpush detectors but they didn't find anything. Those ads are in violation with Google Play policy (they don't show which app is doing it), so I would also like to know which app is causing it - not only how to stop it, so I can report it.
Hopefully Evo 4g doesn't spam me with facebook & twit crap....We better be able to just disable & erase the apps we want to erase. This is just me I was into Facebook just don't like it anymore & hate seeing it everywhere.
View 17 Replies View RelatedAbout four-five days ago I've began receiving text messages from the number "9999999999".(I'm aware it's not a real number) The texts always contain random symbols, no actual words. It's not a foreign language, it's honestly pure symbols. They had hit the 100mark as of yesterday. 100 text messages received from this nut. I receive them at all times of the day and my number is on the do not call list. (not sure if that applies to texting, but yeah..)
I did not reply to them until yesterday where I sent stop, end, #, etc in attempt to end the madness. I've also blocked the number "9999999999" using my phone providers websites. All my attempts to prevent the texts have failed. I still get them from the same 999 number.
Example of such text is
" `P € 13 ƒƒcK K{q{s!s skk™kk+›› ;( |$o$d +r33q3;R
)ƒ lŒH Y‰ ɡ‘ z‚)‚bjp 4T p
l@, DŽ C y{kk›"
While doing a google search that contained a small portion of a text I've received, THESE are the result. Broken webpages with the same symbols I receive just in a different order. I want two things to be honest... A method to stopping this and to know what the text is written in so maybe I could decode it and find out what each text says. I want them both equally the same.
I just switched to Verizon from att less than a week ago and got a motorola razr. I'm new to android phones, ive had iPhones since the original one came out and its taking sometime getting use to it.
I got a notification today. I can't really remember what the notification said but i clicked on it. when I clicked on it, my browser opened up and a small box popped up and said Congrats att customers you have won the android give away for a pad 2. The web page was how to claim your prize. I know it was spam so I closed the window.
I just want to know why I'm getting this? I haven't downloaded many apps yet. I'm still learning all the settings.
My AVDs suddenly can't reach the internet. I'm testing using the browser of the AVD. I haven't changed anything that I think is related on my development machine and I can still reach the internet from the development machine. I'm sort of at a loss figuring out how to start debugging this. Is it possible that my ISP is blocking the AVD? Is there anything different about the HTTP traffic that originates on the AVD that my ISP might key on?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was debugging away and moved my phone a bit and the debugger lost contact. I figured it was just a loose USB so I reseated the cable and attempted to restart the debugger. Now the debugger can't find my phone. I can manage the phone from DDMS without any problem so it's not a phone, cable, or driver issue. Something went wacko in the debugger setup. When I go to Run Configurations in Eclipse, the phone is simply not in the list of choices. Any ideas where I can look for what's wrong?
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy home account is from Verizon managed through yahoo. Getting SMS spam somehow...I thought that Spareparts had a blacklist, but the version included in BB Froyo (Fabs NexBeast version) doesn't seem to have that....neither does the Froyo SMS client.
Am I missing something obvious in Froyo to do this?
Or anyone have a Froyo-compatible SMS blacklist program to recommend?
Until yesterday my email was working fine, now for some reason I'm receiving mail from my yahoo spam folder in addition to my normal mail. Can't say I can remember changing anything.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI receive spam emails and would like to send them to my spam folder from my Incredible however I don't know how to do this. I usually need to wait to get to my computer to do this. Is there a better way so I can do this from my Inc? I have both yahoo and gmail coming to my Inc. It's usually only the yahoo spam that gets through. So thoughts on the yahoo spam?
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust got an unexpected "message" in the notification area. From the icon in the bar (Green bubble with smiley), I suspect that it was GO SMS.
The highlighting is theirs, not mine!
A quick search found [URL] .... that also believe that it was a GO product.
If that is the case, too bad -- they had good product, but seem to be pushing their own cloud (can't backup your SMS/MMS locally any more), and now, perhaps, other products a bit too heavily. Confirm the origin of this?
Is there a way to determine where it came from, should it appear again? (Unfortunately it had rolled off logcat by the time I thought to check there)

The GMail-App on my Xoom and my Nexus S (both with Android 4.0.3) is driving me crazy. In former times I could easily report mails as no spam.
That doesn't work anymore. Instead I guess it should be possible to mark the mails and label them as "Inbox". But that doesn't work, either. With some luck, it works with 1 or 2 mails, but the rest stays in SPAM, even though at first they disappear from the spam-folder.
Isn't there a way to do that? Why is there no real option to mark the mails as no spam?
Since I upgraded to ICS and rooted, I've been getting this message:
How can I block or remove this?
Tried resetting the phone and it kept on repeating.
The other question: I am getting SMSs from some web site trying to turn me into an orthodox jew, is there any way to block these SMSs?
Has anyone else noticed this?Today when I went to enter some text, I noticed that the "Y" and the "Z" are transposed on the keyboard the Y is down in the lower left corner, and the Z is up in the middle of the top row of keys.
