HTC Incredible :: Filter Spam On Phone / Keyword Block Of These Ads?

Jun 1, 2010

I have a few different email accounts and on my PC I have most of the spam under control by a junk mail filter that catches almost all of what the ISP's filter doesn't. On the Incredible, however, those ads still get through and it's annoying of course. If I could just even get rid of the Viagra ads, I'd be happy, because there wouldn't be much spam left if they were gone. I figure there has to be a way to do a keyword block of these ads but I just can't figure this out on here. Any ideas?

Android :: Creative Ideas For Stopping Email Spam?

Oct 19, 2010

I'm trying to help someone who'd like a way to stop email spam from reaching his Android phone. I understand this is usually best done from the email server side of things, but this is where we are right now. This is regarding his work email, and I've suggested that he have gmail fetch it for him so they can filter it (does this work for fetching? I know it works great for emails sent directly to gmail), alas, he says he only has an imap server and no Pop3 server for gmail to fetch. I looked in the market and found only one not terribly highly rated app for filtering email spam on Android phones. If you've tried that email filtering app, it worked?

HTC Droid Eris :: Market Application Installations And Unsolicited Spam Texts

Oct 12, 2010

A couple nights ago, I installed a picture frame widget from the Market. Nice black frame, just what I wanted. Since then I've been getting unsolicited Spam texts. I don't know for sure, though, if its the widget causing the trouble. The reason I suspect it now is that there was no screen detailing what types of permissions the app had when I chose to install. I didn't think anything of it at the time, since it was supposed to be basically an inert widget. Now I'm regretting my naivete. So, I've uninstalled the pic frame (and Messaging Widgets just to be safe). Anything else I should do at this point? I don't do any banking or buying on my phone, but still.

Android :: Google Voice Spam

May 18, 2010

Here's the deal:I am new Voice user, just got in last weekend with the Google Voice for Students thing. I set up a GV number for safekeeping but I'm not using it for calls or SMS. Voice is only set up on my Incredible to handle voicemail. So, tonight, I got a notification on my phone. Upon looking, I see that there's a message in Voice despite having not received any call. It's from an unknown number and obviously a spam message.

Two questions:

1.) How did this message get to me? i.e. did someone text my GV number or what?

2.) Is spam going to be a big problem with Google Voice? If so, I'm afraid I will very quickly switch back to my carrier's service.

Android :: Framerate Killed By OnTouchEvent Spam

Apr 27, 2009

I've got a problem with a flood of touch events destroying my game's framerate while there is a touch active. Basically onTouchEvent is called (with getAction = ACTION_MOVE, x = 0 and y = 0) about a hundred times a second for as long as the finger is touching the screen. I've tried returning from onTouchEvent straight away, and even removing its implementation at all, but it doesn't help - the app slows to a crawl as soon as a finger is down. I asked on the IRC channel and Romain Guy advised me that they're aware of the problem but didn't have time to fix it for Cupcake, so I'm not expecting a full solution!

Android :: Best Email Application For Hotmail?

Aug 24, 2010

Basically I want to know what the best app for accessing your hotmail account is. I used to use the default HTC mail app on my HTC Desire, but it only polls/pulls email every 15minutes via POP3. Also even after deleting the emails in the app, they would still remain in the Webmail inbox. I then moved onto SeVen, this apparently offered some 'push' facility but all I found is that e-mails would arrive 40minutes late and it would drain the hell out of my battery.

MailDroid/K9 Mail seem promising, haven't been able to distinguish much between them but K9 looks better (on a side note, can IMAP idle be used for hotmail or not?).

1. E-mails arriving no more than 15minutes later than originally sent
2. When I have read an email on my phone, it should be automatically marked read on my webmail
3. Deleting an email from my phone should result in it being deleted from my webmail too

Android :: Usefull Email Application

Jun 27, 2010

I have an Incredible. I use basic IMAP mail hosted on a server I pay for. I tried K9, and it fails with SSL. See here. I tried redownloading the certificate by reentering the information. This is a temporary fix at best, as it will sporadically on one of my email accounts stop receiving or sending mail, which I verify by checking the k9 errors folder. Then there's HTC mail. You have to jump through hoops to get SSL on SMTP servers, and there's no sending mail over wifi. I have yet to get SSL certificates on outgoing mail to work with HTC mail, which is a requirement. I don't use gmail for business, but I tried the gmail app and noticed: no select, or copy, on the HTC Incredible gmail app. So if I have something like, say, a tracking number, I am screwed. I actually use the web browser to check gmail.com rather than use the app on this phone. At least in K-9, if I hit reply, I can scroll down to body text and select what I need to. Even if the selection isn't done as elegantly as it is in the browser, or in the HTC mail app, it works. I want an email app that just works. Push/IMAP idle would be nice, but I'd settle for something that doesn't have a pile of SSL bugs and wi-fi issues.
