I'm new to the forum but have been doing a lot of reading/research lately about Android and am looking forward to getting a new phone loaded with Android. I've still got a few questions I was hoping I could get answered.
Is there a actual website for Android apps where you can search by topic and read app descriptions?Can you only search for apps from the Market on your phone or is there a web based marketplace?

I use a Google Apps e-mail address (i.e. it's tied to my domain) and GMail can work with this fine, but when I tried to purchase something from the Market it said it can't use this and I need a googlemail e-mail. I have one so I entered that, but now I want to use one I have set up especially for this purpose but I can't see how to change this relationship. If I stick a different SIM in, the Market now asks me to confirm the account password but it won't let me change the actual address. I'm running 1.5 on a T-Mobile Pulse.

I don't want a googlemail address. Fair enough having to create a google account.. but i don't like googlemail, I can't get the user name I want and I already have 6 other email addresses to manage.

I have an app that was installed via Android Market. And so, the Android Market knows when new versions are out and notifies me of an update. Titanium Backup calls this the 'Market Link', not sure what else it could be called.
how would I go about 'disconnecting' the app from the Market? Deleting the market link as if it were side-loaded?
Yes, I know this means no more updates for the app etc. Which is actually what I'm after.

When i open up the market app on my hero it shows an email address and asks for a pass word, does anyone know how to change that email address becausw i dont no the pass word, with this problem i carn't open the app market.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI started receiving lots of rejected emails from my gmail.com account this evening... looks as though my phone (HTC Desire / Android 2.1) has been sending out bogus emails... no subject, just a link to a website ...
eg.

Its sent a different website to each section of my addressbook, so as not to have too many recipients on each outgoing email... some of the other emails reference different sites ... I've no idea what's caused this...assume it must be an app that's been installed. I've installed the free AV on my phone from the google market (orange/white capsule). I've fixed all the reported errors...
Guess I wanted to know if anyone has seen this before... I'm worried the O/S may now be compromised and i'll need to start from scratch. If anyone can provide any advice and / or pointers to diagnostic/security tools it would be most welcome.

Does anyone understood even bits of how the market ranks apps in the market ?
I usually don't look at stats but following another post on this topic, I counted my rank in my category ... 565 ... Ouch that hurts! Especially when half the apps in front of mine, are crap apps with less downloads and ratings as low as 1 star :).
Not that it would make a difference being rank 250 instead of 565...But this is humiliating a little :s

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have multiple gmail addresses set up on my phone through the gmail app.However, when I use any HTC app (People,Gallery)and try to send an email through these apps (I believe it directs me to the HTC mail app), I can only send emails from one of my addresses (which is not my primary address).Does anyone know of a way to switch primary email addresses for HTC apps or how to at least switch on the fly between different addresses when sending emails launched from other HTC apps (People, Gallery, etc.).

I'm rooted running 4.1.1 and I'm looking for an app that sort of works like a proxy except for my own phone and just my phone's data. The goal is to see which apps are accessing the internet and what websites they are accessing and how often, ect. Basically I'd like to eavesdrop on my own apps. Is that possible? How can I do this?

Tried to download EEBA as well, both ways, and no dice. I had to have the dev send me the APK to load EEBA.
WTH is up with this? Is it a version flub? Or just a wonky phone?

For example, if there is an application called "com.mycompany.someapp", is there a way to programmatically grab an image (icon) for that application either through an Android API or by simply downloading it from someplace on the net? I know it is possible to get the icon for an installed app using the PackageManager API; however, I don't believe that works for apps that are not installed. Failing that, since PackageManager can get a list of icons for installed applications, it should be possible to compile a fairly comprehensive list by creating an app that queries the PackageManger and uploads all the installed app icons to a webserver. That's not as nice as a true API, but it seems like it would work reasonably well. Can anyone think of anything particularly wrong with that approach?

I often find myself reviewing a very popular, top-rated app, then not being able to find it no matter how I search in the Market. These aren't usually obscure, ancient, one-off apps. I usually am hearing about them in 'top Android apps' articles, etc.
I usually search by the exact name, then alternate spellings. And I recently got the Barcode Scanner and am scanning the QR codes over at AndroLib.com to see if it's any easier. But I haven't gotten ANY of those to come up.
- What gives with the Android Market? Could I have something setup improperly?
I live in Los Angeles, so I doubt it's a location issue.
