Sep 24, 2010
I have 20 sec mp3's that I can assign to individual contacts for their ringtone. I also have 07 sec mp3's that I want to assign to their notification sound such as incoming texts. How can I do that? Do I need a 3rd party app?

I have two questions being a relatively new Incredible owner (2.5 weeks). I wanted to know the best way to assign my own mp3/wav as a Notification sound. I know how to do it for the ringtones, but I don't see a way to add new notifications.
The other question is if there is a way to assign a different notification sound to emails and texts independently, i.e. a different sound for email than for texts.

Is there a way to assign a different notification sound for SMS & email notifications? I don't really want to have to use a different messaging app just to do this though.

I'm very new to Android and Java development, searching and reading various tutorials and using different parts of code from around the internet, trying to make sense of it as I go. Currently I have a list created with 4 list items, what I'd like to do is assign a different icon to each of these list items, however, I've no idea how to do it, nor do I know what to search for. Here's the code:
main.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/ android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent">
<ListView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:id="@+id/mainListView"> </ListView>
</LinearLayout> row.xml
<TextView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android
android:id="@+id/rowTextView" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:padding="10dp" android:textSize="16sp" >
</TextView> FirstList.java
import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.Arrays;
import android.app.Activity; import android.os.Bundle; import android.widget.ArrayAdapter; import android.widget.ListView; public class FirstList extends Activity {
private ListView mainListView; private ArrayAdapter<String> myListAdapter;
/** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main);
mainListView = (ListView) findViewById( R.id.mainListView);
String[] myList = new String[] {"List 1", "List 2", "List 3", "List 4"};
ArrayList<String> listObjects = new ArrayList<String>();
listObjects.addAll( Arrays.asList(myList));
myListAdapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.row, listObjects);
mainListView.setAdapter(myListAdapter);
} }

I have a Galaxy Note 2. I use the Yahoo Email app and want to select a cool ringtone for my email sounds but can't because the app only recognizes only the installed system sounds.
So who knows to get this app to play whatever ringtone you want?

I'm setting up my wife's Samsung Intercept. Installed Juice Defender, Handcent, and free version of Launcher Pro. So far everything is working well. She wants a very quick way to access calling/texting her favorites. Is there a Contact Manger program that could have individual icons for each person that I could place on an empty home screen? So, wouldn't have to open the app, just go to the home screen where there would be multiple favorite people icons. I wonder if Launcher Pro Plus has this feature? I'm going to try Contapps as this looks like it might work. Not sure if I have to first open the app and then select favorites. She's trying to minimize the number of hits before dialing/texting.

I have an unlocked Hero that I'm using on the AT&T network. I have my contacts synced via Exchange. I set up a few to have different ringtones, but none seem to work. The default ringtone is the only ringtone I ever hear. Am I missing something?

I'm New to Android, but have had HTC Windows phones since the PPC-6700 about 6 years ago. My question is this (I have searched everywhere and No answer), When you sync your phone, does it also Save the Ringers for the Individual Contacts? I remember with all my Windows phones before, when I would Hard Reset etc. it would automatically bring back saved Pictures and Ringers on each individual contact. If not, is there a way of doing it? Does the Evo back itself up as a say an iPod Touch does. (I like that just to be Safe in case of Hard Resets).

Perhaps I'm a moron today (don't answer that). But I've been trying to assign an individual ringtone to my wife's number (she doesn't care for "Secret Prayer" by Joe Satriani, suggested something by ABBA, and is lucky she isn't getting "Scolding Wife" by Great Big Sea) but I haven't had any luck. Is this a Captivate thing? The other android phones seem to be easy enough.

In Android I can assign a preferred phone number for a contact.I would like to set a preferred contact for a phone number. If I get called and the number was added to multiple contacts (which is correct for my case), I would like to set another contact as the preferred contact when the number calls again.

I have been looking to try to choose one of my ringtones for notification confirmations as well as received calls. All that I have found are the OS ringtones for those 2 operations. (ringtone: DROID)
I have found how to choose from my custom ringtones only for individual contact. how I can get my ringtones to be seen or where to place them so that the Droid sees them?

I had this problem in 2.1v2, I installed v3, and it first, all was well, then yesterday I noticed the same thing...none of my custom set ring tones are being used. phone always rings with the system default.
I can change that, and it rings that tone, but any I assign to a contact don't work.
I haven't installed any ring tone managers or anything, I can't think of what would be messing with it, but it is friggin annoying!

I am looking for the default sound files from the Incredible. Specifically, I am looking to the "doot" sound when you press the volume slider. Does anyone have this sound file? It is not located with the alarms, notification, or ringtones. Also, as an added bonus, I am looking for the notification sound from SportsTap as well.
