How do I assign an MP3 or indeed other audio file for my TXT message alert.? I have created and assigned about 5 different ringtones to both individuals and groups, but I can't get the phone to accept a MP3 as the txt notification ?

Please be kind, i have tried searching before posting and i seem to be as good as a chocolate fire guard. I have the samsung galaxy s and i installed hand cent sms (or something like that) which was good when it didn't freeze. My problem is, now that i have installed it i am now no longer able to assign a custom text alert as i had before, i have created a folder in the root and when i go to messages, settings, select ring tone i have the ones that came with the phone, plus option of default ring tone, can anyone help this stupid individual out. Also while your reading this novel and thinking "you really are useless" Is there anyway to find out WHEN people have sent there texts, it only shows the time it arrived.

I have downloaded a few soundboards and want to use one of them....i press and hold the sound i want and set as my default notification.....i then go into settings and choose the relevant sound but everytime i get a text I'm still getting the stupid t-mobile msg sound.

Maybe base it off of when the screen rotates + keyboard lights up? I would love to apply 2 seperate notifications. One for open and one for close. Anyone got an application like this in the works or know of one that would work on Samsung Moment? I know there is a notification for when you unplug the power, but I'd love to have 2 seperate from that for JUST the slider. I can't believe we can't modify seperate notification sounds custom without apps.

On my Eris, it appears in my music section. How do I set it as my notification sound? It is not appearing in the "sound" list for notifications.
Ive searched through the forums, and no one seems to have this exact question. When everyone other than my girlfriend texts me, my phone vibrates and plays the notification sound. Now, when my girlfriend texts me, I get no vibration, AND no sound. The only thing I could think of is that I gave my girlfriend a custom ringtone I made with ringdroid, but that wouldn't make any sense since its for a call, not a text. Please help me, shes getting mad at me when I respond 2 hours later.

for example:
string str="you have clicked "+ count + "times";
where count is an integer variable that gets incremented every time the user hits a button. and when i assign this string to the text of an alert-dialog ,i get the alert-dialog at runtime but with an empty text value...ie. a naked alert-dialog with just OK cancel button.
I can't find the option to assign ringtones to contacts. I am super-tired so please forgive me if this is really obvious and I'm missing it!
View 7 Replies View RelatedTotally new to "smart phones" and feeling pretty dumb right now I have managed to download a bunch of sounds (mpga) and saved them in my "sounds" folder on my Captivate. And following advice, have gone into my Contacts, scrolled down, and assigned a file as ringtone, then hit "Save". When viewing the contact, it shows the file as being assigned as their ringtone. And then when the call comes in.... Rings as default. Whats going on? Do the sounds have to be in the Ringtone folder? If yes, how do I do that? If no, what am I doing wrong?

The software is all up to date, ive reset the alert tone in the notification settings, and im afraid thats all my knowledge used up. Ringtone sound is fine and it also vibrates for that.

I picked up the Captivate the other day and so far I love it but is there a way to assign custom non-Samsung message tones? I mean for texts and emails, calender alerts. When I open the apps and go to settings then change alert tone only the Samsung preloaded ones show up. I can choose any ringtone for calling, just not messaging. I downloaded several apps such as SMS Pop-Up and Chomp SMS to see if that would give me the option to choose any tone but no such luck. My last 2 phones have been a Blackberry Bold 9000 and a Backflip and both those phones had those capabilities. Anyone have any ideas?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an issue since i start installing custom ROMS. So, is not my first time installing a ROM. I have installed stock ROM's in the past. However, not custom ones. I have rooted my device in the past and even now before installing a custom ROM. I have installed through TWRP recovery various custom ROMS such as Omega, AOSP, ARROW, WanamLite, Google Edition and CyanogenMod but none of them worked fine for me.
In some ROMS I might not have reception (don't worry the IMEI is the same and backed up). However, in EVERY ROM my dialler crashes; for example, when im trying to make a call it freezes and the screen goes black without seeing anything. On the other hand, when I receive a call, screen takes ages to appear and show the caller or even accept the call. In addition, I have NO SOUND at all in every ROM as well.
I believe that the kernel might be the problem. This is because when i am booting the phone I always see the following:
I have tried clearing cache, dalvik, removing battery, installing stock ROMS etc.... and nothing changed!
I just got my Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant from Bell, and I am not verry technical. I have some (maybe 10) additional apps installed since i got the phone, including advanced task killer.
My issue is this: when I get a new message, it appears in the blinds (the thing at the top?) like it is supposed to, but after I check the message, it stays there, saying I have the new message. I can clear it and it goes away, but shouldnt it dissapear after I check the text?
I also crash frequently, but I am thinking newer firmware will fix that
I have two questions being a relatively new Incredible owner (2.5 weeks). I wanted to know the best way to assign my own mp3/wav as a Notification sound. I know how to do it for the ringtones, but I don't see a way to add new notifications.
The other question is if there is a way to assign a different notification sound to emails and texts independently, i.e. a different sound for email than for texts.
Is there a way to assign a different notification sound for SMS & email notifications? I don't really want to have to use a different messaging app just to do this though.

It cannot be changed through notification ringtone menu; all that succeeds in doing is changing tone for other notifications like email etc. Have tried to select other notification tones, but it is the "tada" tone that always comes up when SMS is received. The volume is at max but still cant here it.This is with sms , mail , whatsapp and more.
Only way i can see if i have a message is to hit refresh. I don't even get a alert sound when i get a new message now.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo if I have the messaging app open and on screen I don't get a notification sound for the message that I just got sent I have looked into settings and nothing, so if I respond to a message and put the phone down and they respond I dont know unless the app is closed - or I assume the screen is turned off but never tried that. I got 9 text messages from someone and it was important that I respond quickly, well I did and then put the phone down, they texted back 1 min latter and then again 1 min after that and again 1 min after that 8 times, I never saw them until I looked at the screen and that was like 5-6 min latter - screen timeout is set to 2 min but after the text after 1 min it reset that timer and again and again so I never got the message until 5-6 min after it was sent resulting in messages like "hello?" "WTF" "answer" and so on.
